    The panels exist because of noise reduction related to the town Rust. This is normally the part where most of the guests scream and Europapark made an agreement with Rust to install these panels and close the Q-Line for Silverstar at 8pm if the park is open later than 8pm.

      Scott Edward Wodan is great fun. The fly through of the station is a great moment. I lived in Germany for four years and made several trips to Europa Park. I’m still amazed Disney hasn’t tried to sue the pants off the park. Some of the theming and attractions are blatant rip offs of Magic Kingdom and Epcot.

    The Europa Park has linke almost every major park in Germany the problem that it started as a tiny fairy-tail park next to a town/village.
    Those parks do all have major noise problems and are nearly almost in a fight with the local residents.
    That’s the reason why silver star needs these walls.
    Same goes also for the walls surrounding Taron in Phantasia Land.
    If you look closely onto the maps of those to parks you’ll notice that all major outdoor activities are based at one sind of the park.
    Germany has very strict restrictions on noise and has that problem of parks that started small and grew to a never imagined size in a short time.
    Oh yeah, that’s also the reason why mystery castle is an indoor drop tower...
    Have a good one!
    Chris

    In my opinion Silver Star really shines in the winter. Because thats when the trims are almost completely turned off. It gives fantastic airtime (even ejector) during that time and its my favourite ride in the Park by far.

    • @azertycraftgaming

      I didn't feel it until I heard people say that there was a rattle.
      You can especially feel it at the bottom of the first drop and at the turnaround.
      But it still isn't rough by any means. Especially compared to the other coasters in the park.

      I've ridden SilverStar on the year it opened in summer, at that time the ride was butter smooth so I would guess your rattling feeling is probably due to ageing ? EuropaPark does run some seriously intense operations. When I rode it the trim breaks were so aggressive you had to sit in the very last row to get any airtime at all, they may have eased up a little on them.

    The thing with B&M hyper coasters is that they are really expansive and large so only major parks have them. That makes it that regular visitors who only ever ride one of them. And in that case a hyper blows other ride experiences out of the park even if Silver Star isn't the prime example of what a hyper can be.

  • @ireeb
    @ireeb Před 4 lety +4

    As a fan of EP; I fully agree with your assessment. Silver Star is a crowd pleaser, it looks scary because of it's size, but actually doesn't do that much, but for the GP, the size and the big drop are usually all that counts.
    Why wasn't Silver Star built by Mack Rides you ask?
    It was the 2000's. Mack Rides was building Wild Mice and Family coasters. Only. And the company was struggling financially, because bigger and more intense rides were demanded by parks and park goers. And they experienced that first hand when they realized that Europa-Park needed a big ride, and Mack Rides had absolutely no expertise or capabilities to manufacture that. That's why they needed to get it from B&M. But it also was a wake-up call for Mack Rides. They realized that the company would be doomed if they just kept going. In the following years, they started to reorganize the whole company, and Michael Mack was a driving force in it. The company was in bad shape, and while the older members of the company insisted on keeping everything in their hands, Michael convinced them to get help. It was a really tough move for everyone involved and all the employees, but as we know today, putting the company in the hands of Christian von Elverfeldt was a great decision. Together with Macks, he managed to stabilize the company's finances and to slim down and modernize many structures. This allowed the company to enter a new chapter: The development of Blue Fire. Before this point, they really only had family rides, and some of them even were pretty bumpy (Look at Poseidon). It was a huge project to develop a whole new track and train system that was so far ahead of anything Mack Rides ever built. But all involving parties did their best and the Macks and all engineers at Mack Rides put all their knowledge and engineering skills into it. And that's how Mack Rides became the great company we know today. While Silver Star is a great ride for Europa-Park, it was a warning for Mack Rides. A warning they took very seriously, and it is astonishing how far the company got in just less than a decade. If they were to built a Hyper Coaster today, I'm sure Mack Rides would build it. But back then, that wasn't even an option.
    And why was Wodan built by GCI? Because Mack Rides doesn't build Wooden Coasters, that's a pretty simple answer ;)

    I mostly agree with your review but I have to give Silver Star some credit. It was the ride that made me an enthusiast.
    When I first rode Silver Star back in 2012, it completely blew me away. I had never experienced anything on this scale before. It was by far the tallest, the fastest, the longest ride I had been on up to that point. And it flipped a switch in my head. It lead me down the rabbit hole of being a coaster enthusiast 8 years ago.
    Riding it again in 2017 was a bit underwhelming, though. It was still fun but I had ridden several hundred more coasters by that time and was a bit more experienced. The rattle was particularly noticable. It's nowhere near my Top 30 today. But it does hold a special place in my heart, because without Silver Star, I don't know if I'd be here today.

    I personally think the middle row gives the best airtime on this ride. It's pretty much as strong as in the back, while it lasts for much longer.

    I completely agree that the airtime is super underwhelming on this rollercoaster, but it doesn't help that the only other B&M Hyper I remember is Shambala which gives god like airtime (i've technically ridden Nitro but I was way to young to remember it plus el toro is in the same park). The S bend at the end is pretty amazing though

    For me i had 0 rattle when I rode it (end of season).
    Also I personally haven't really experienced that big of forces on the helix strangely enough.
    Besides that I can agree that besides the drop after the midcourse brakerun its kind of forceless and doesn't do a lot.

    Part of the reason that Silver Star is a B&M hyper is because Mack rides wasn't at a point where they could build something like DC Rivals as at 2002 their biggest coasters were the bobsleigh coasters. Apparently during a tour of the ride (heard from Coaster-Net Uncut) someone said that today they'd build Silver Star themselves. Unlike Wodan (as Mack hasn't built any wood coasters), this is something that they could easily do today.

    • @CoasterStudios
      @CoasterStudios  Před 4 lety

      I figured that was likely the reason. It would've been awesome to have a DC Rivals at Europa Park. Who knows, maybe there's still the possibility for it in the future!

    The best ride I had on silver Star was last December during dusk:
    The "out-part" of the layout featured a really nice sunset and after the big turn (the "back-part"), we had a view on the park area - and during Holiday season with the shining lights, Europa Park looks absolutely gorgeous!
    For me, this coaster is fine to enjoy some small bits of airtime, but it's not a favourite candidate...

  • @conflictdesigns892

    Silver star was my first coaster which was supposed to have airtime (since then I have rode shambhala) but I felt nothing on it and it make me really disappointed because I thought airtime would feel different but in silver star there was nothing. The difference between this and shambhala was night and day

    Silver Star is one of the most underwhelming rides I have ever ridden. Compared to many smaller Coaster the airtime isn't great, it is kinda just there, when I last rode it in 2017 the Trims where trimming all potential fun out of it and the entire ride kinda feels meehhh overall.

    Yes, there surely are hypers that are way more intense than silver star. Anyway, it fits the park perfectly and its focus on families. For many people silver star will be the only hyper they ride, so their score could be easily higher :P

    My problem with Silver Star is that it runs inconsistently. In my most recent visit, I rode it twice. The first was in the morning and it was running flawlessly- abnormally smooth and trimless, wich provided crazy ejector airtime on the small hills. The second time was before closing and the airtime wasn't very good and it was one of the roughest B&M coasters ever. In general its a great ride but it is not very smooth and ride experience is unpredictable sometimes. Interestingly, I found it rougher in the front than in the back.

  • @farringtonking
    @farringtonking Před 4 lety

    Also don’t forget this park in general is for smaller people. I weigh 230 6’2 and I barely fit on this ride. Was a but embarrassed when I needed the operators help stapling me to the ride.

  • @rc_smarti7647

    I can't compare this coaster to other B&M hypers yet, but I'd overall agree with your review. I've never noticed a rattle (might be lack of experience) and I personally hate the "theming", but I dislike sponsorships in general. Overall in the park it's not in my top 3 rides there, but it still is a solid and fun ride, so I'd agree with 5/10 or 6/10

    Enthusiasts ride Silver Star hearing about the "ruinious" trims. Yet honestly? When you've ridden loads of these things, Silver Star stacks up perfectly fine. As you did say, the ending is pretty good in all honesty, and the rest of it? Better than several I have done in SF/CF parks (Raging Bull, Intimidator) but equally less good than several (Goliath SFoG, Nitro, Shambhala). The operations on this thing are insane. 6 is harsh. I'd probably go with 7. RE: Noise barriers - these were retro-fitted around 10 years back. It's a shame, but that's the village. Silver Star also closes the queue line at 8pm even when the park is open later so as not to disturb the kids' beauty sleep!

    I visited Europapark 3 times. on each day i would give it a different rating. I once rode this when it was about 5 degrees celcius and i would have given it a 5 out of 10. Then i rode it in the summer and i would rate it 7 out of 10. Its certainly not one of the best rides in europe but when the sun is shining and you want a breeze of wind, this is a nice coaster.
