Episode 31
There have been many Simpsons games over the years, but Bart Vs the Space Mutants was the first! The controls are a bit awkward, but the programmers did a great job of integrating many characters and locations from the popular TV show, and really brought the world of Springfield to life!
Unlike the games I've covered for the channel so far, The Simpsons was developed by an American company! So how did they make this classic piece of retro gaming history? In today's episode, we'll find out! Then we'll dive deep into the game where we'll learn:
* How to beat EVERY level!
* Where to find all of the HIDDEN goals!
* What to do with ALL of the game's many ITEMS, and where to find them!
* Secret SHORTCUTS to get past difficult areas!
* How to find TONS of hidden 1-UPs!
* The secret to earning UNLIMITED EXTRA LIVES!
* How to defeat ALL of the game's challenging BOSSES!
* An easy strategy for navigating the confusing POWER PLANT MAZE... AND MORE!
Thanks for watching!

I never thought I would live to see the day someone makes this game make sense, and look easy to boot. What a time to be alive.
I agree !!
Moon pies
Yes!
That was my gripe with the game, and this playthrough just highlights it - it's not intuitive. I had the same issue with the Addams Family NES game, the actions and items just didn't make sense.
i was always able to make it to the end as a kid but the nuke plant almost messed me up til i was an adult lol
Wait... The end of this game isn't rage quitting on level 1?
Lol I literally never seen level 2 till now and this was one of the NES games i played the most
My dad rented this at least 20 times for me. It took 17 weekends to beat level 1. I tried 3 more times and got to the museum a few times, but my platforming and damage control skills weren't good enough and I gave up after half a years worth of weekends indoors. Lol good times!
Never made it to level two
This game is happy end. :)
haha, I know, right?
These Simpson games were the ones I always wanted as a kid but never could afford to buy, after watching this video I am glad I never did as I would have rage quit .
I'm not sure why it took so long for a channel like this to become a thing but I am so happy it did. This is the channel I and I think many others have been waiting for. Once the CZcams algorithm figures this out this channel is gonna blow up ,and rightfully so. Keep churning them out with great quality my man.
You're like the Bob Ross of video games, and not just because of the soothing voice.
Making this game look fun, and even playable is definitely artistry. I might even say this is your masterpiece, so far. = )
Good stuff as always, my friend.
Patman qc already deemed himself the bob Ross of video games as he has it at the beginning of every video.
I feel that!
@@one7decimal2eight that's not really a thing you get to decide for yourself.
It's cos he has a pube head
Poignant
Watching this channel is like my new Saturday morning cartoons.
Good call
Love that! Thank you!!
I agree, prefect blend of nostalgia and education on classic stuff we grew up with!
Nice.
Yeah, i look forward to Saturdays at 7am (los Angeles). Settle down with coffee and donuts and watch these on the big screen
So Bart collects radioactive uranium isotope rods with his bare hands without dying, but he has a hard time dealing with freshly laid concrete? Good stuff!
You can't pick and choose your strength and weaknesses.
He's a Simpson, radiation is like mother's milk to him.
He'll die in a few months lol
Ummmmm., bartman can pick them up. That's not bart at all... two wayyyyy different people bro... That's like putting Clark Kent against superman, or... idk, Bruce Wayne vs batman. There's just no comparison between the two.
Logic don't exist when it comes to video games.
This is so much nostalgia! This game is so hard for me and my friend that when I finally finished it when he wasn't around he didn't believe me and I had to finish it again in front of him 😂
Apparently I’m not the only one who had the experience of beating it and not being believed.
Thankfully I was able to convince my friend after describing the ending in detail.
Reminds me of me and my friend. He was so good at it. A genius I thought. I was real bad. Interesting game. The memories!
This game used to piss Me off so damn bad as a child. Took forever to beat it
Thanks, William! I feel that for sure. As a kid, I don't think I ever got past the mall
I know it that. The mall aint no joke jumping over that quick sand or wet cement i guess 😂. Had me flipping out with a lot of curse words behind it. Quietly though so my parents couldn't hear me.
I never beat the game. It was too damn hard.
for real real
Same. I didn't beat this game until I was like 11, and I was only able to do it twice.
I like how you have your dog as part of the show. That's a nice looking pupper.
What? I thought the dog was narrating? He even has a headset on and turned on the console!
@@DrCrabnuts i mean, he could be. He is a good boy.
Imagine "completing" and knowing what to do in LEVEL 1 ...as a 5 year old lmao. No wonder i havent played this game since. Great channel!
@Antonio Richardson same. I thought other parts of the first level was somehow level 2 😭😭😭
I knew you could spray-paint some things, I thought it was a fun little feature for Bart... I had no clue that was the goal of the level. Guess I never bothered reading the dialogue.
I got a little farther in Bart vs the World, almost beat Virtual Bart, did beat Bart's Nightmare, never played Bartman or Krusty's Funhouse... am I missing any?
I think I remember beating level three once as a child and then I died almost immediately in the museum level.
I would only beat the first level, and lose on second pretty quick
I don't have to imagine that hard. I think I beat this game when I was like 8 or 9. No game genie, I swear. And internet wasn't a thing yet.
There was no way possible to beat this game without a guide. Forget beat, passing level 1 is a miracle
Thank you, magical talking dog, but this is the first time I've had serious doubt about my ability to beat a video game on this channel. After years of trying as a kid, I'm pretty sure I'd fail getting pat level 3 over and over again.
The highlight of my saturday, keep churning out those hits my dude. This game used to bust my chops so hard when i was a kid.
Thanks Joseph! I don't think I ever passed the Mall as a kid
@@UCanBeatVideoGames same thing i would always get stuck at the first platforming section. bart vs the world was much easier i think i ended up beating it the first time i rented it.
@@UCanBeatVideoGames Yeah that mall aint no joke! I beat the whole game one time as a kid. Once you get pass the mall it get some easy but still hard.
@@josephrhodes5025 that was SNES right?
@@michaeldove339 snes was barts nightmare that game was really fun but still far from easy
This game was so hard for me as a kid.. And I'm ashamed to say I have only beat it with the Game Genie..
No shame there, this game was made for Game Genie!
What cheats do the game genie do? Level skip? I beat it one time without it but sure as hell would have liked to skip pass the mall.
@@retiredsnowbunnyhunterx5106 I used the invincibility, cut the timer off and super jump. I couldn't beat the mall unless I had the super jump code..
@@terryindachat7296 oh ok gotcha! Yeah you do have to long jumps on those small ass platforms.
I I actually Have beaten it with out the game Genie & TMNT 1 too as well. But like wizards and warriors & other games Have not.
Man, you not only are killin it at these games, but you make it look easy AND teach it easily.
Keep up the great work we'll all keep watching! Thanks for the entertainment!
14:35 This is where most people rage quit. I'm surprised how much effort was put into what is almost universally reviled as a typical rushed licensed game.
the only good Simpson's game in the 90's was the arcade beat'em up,then later hit and run and the Simpson's game on Xbox 360
I'm like one of the 8 people who enjoyed the Genesis version of Bart's Nightmare. At least the Bartman and Itchy and Scratchy levels
This has very high production value, and you explain things so well. Great work!
Game is hard as hell. I managed to beat it one time. Aint bother attempting it again. But you made it look easy. Well done!
I quit this game as a kid..it was nonsense hard
It is not that hard. I beat it as a kid. It took me a year because of some of the insanely hard jumps in the museum level, after that it is smooth sailing.
@@LUCKO2022 ...took you a year???? And you dont call thar hard??? I was like 13 yrs old and other things to do...like watch Batman animated series. Lol
@@LUCKO2022 The game itself isnt that hard but one level that gave me a hard time was the mall. Once i passed that it was some easy to beat it. Once i beat it just didnt want go back an do that mall part anymore when i was a kid. 😂 i accomplished what i wanted an beat it just not gone go back an do it again.
Love this game!!!! Brings back memories of simplicity in life! Never could get past the museum
The museum was the furthest I ever got in the game. I died on the cock heads across the pond. I only ever did that one once sadly. I used to lose a lot of lives on the shopping mall and I almost always lost on it Krusty Land with the bag pipes and such.
I never made it past the museum either. I would die pretty early on so much of that level I had never seen before. I always wondered how to get the items from the enclosed cases too.
Oh man, this game used to kill me back in the day. I wanted to like it so much, but I never got past a few certain points in the day. Thanks for the pro-level strategy!
This was such a joy to watch, I can admit I never got past the first level and to just see what happens for the duration of the game was well worth the watch. Thank you for this
I just found this channel yesterday and can't stop binge watching. Well done, great idea for a channel and great videos. Nostalgia overload
Remember this game fondly from decades ago! Thank you for such a comprehensive runthrough. LOADS of secrets I never knew about. Three questions if I may: -
1) I vaguely remember one of the 45% discount shops holding a secret - you hold up for 5 secs in a doorway. Think it's like the bin where there's hats inside. Have I remembered correctly or did I dream this?
2) What happens when you jump off the diving board into the water on the hour?
3) Is there a way to spawn Marge at the elevators? Vaguely remember something, but can't remember.
This game was so hard. You make it look so easy. As usual. Flawless work, my dude.
I am so glad I found this channel. Your selection of games reads like a list of my favorite games I never beat. Thank you for your amazing coverage. Your intros are stellar. Keep up the good work.
I beat this game around 10 - 15 years ago and figured had seen everything but you definitely found several secrets that I missed. Very good vid.
This entire game is cryptic b.s. No wonder I remember taking it back to the video store early when I was younger. What 12 year old would know to jump on garbage cans x amount of times or 90% of the other stuff in this game. Thank you for the video because it's the only time I've ever seen anything beyond Level 1
I did. I found out that jumping once gave me something so I kept doing it till it wouldn't anymore. I was only a 10 at the time.
say word!
This is probably the best video (of this type) I've ever seen on youtube. That was a great walkthrough.
I've beaten Bart vs The Space Mutants many years ago when it came out and I thought I knew the game pretty well and all the secrets but you still found a ton of stuff to share that I never knew about in the game.
Great video and I'm super excited to check out some of your other content if this is indicative of the quality.
I call cap on you beating the game.
@BestStepBroEver This game isn't Battletoads hard, had this as a kid so I bought it again as an adult. No issue beating it in 2020s
My 1st and last console and game combo my parents ever bought me. Never got to beat this damn game. Watching you breeze through, fills my nostalgic memory! Keep it up dude
I completely forgot about this game. This was another one that drove me nuts as a kid, especially the controls.
Your videos keep getting better and better, I’m completely hooked. Also, I know I said I’d stop making requests, but after watching your channel, I keep thinking of new ones - I’d also love to get your take on Bayou Billy. To this day, that’s one of the only NES games I owned that I still haven’t beaten.
That aside, another awesome video. Keep up the great work!
I was born in 88 and grew up with these games and the Simpsons games especially this game and radioactive man I wanted to love but hated the difficulty and still time to time play the roms on my phone so this video is very special to me thank you
The most random game I've ever seen. How is anyone supposed to know how to complete any of these levels.
It was impossible as a kid. Especially when renting it without a manual.
Strategy guides were big sellers back then. You actually needed them to know how to beat certain games lol.
Back in the day, video game magazines would have strategy guides for games like this. You just had to buy it or borrow it from someone who had it. I bought and still have a bunch of video game magazine treasury-type books with a guide for this, TMNT 2, Castlevania 3, etc
@@youisiaint kids these days don't realize how easy they got it....
@@akaBoG no idea how easy!
I am so glad I found this channel. I really appreciate the intros that give a bit of history. Content allows me to see the games I love to completion better than a speed runner or Let's Play....subscribed!
And once again...your guide helped me to beat this very hard and very cool game of my childhood!! Great video and perfect tutorial as usual! Thanks!!
I just found this channel 2 months ago and I can't wait till every Friday to see a new video we live in my childhood
Thanks, Jason!!
I asked my parents for this because I thought it was the arcade game, I was super disappointed at the time but the game quickly became one of my favorite nes games, even with the crazy difficulty at the end hah
Man, you made this walkthrough an absolute joyride! cheers!
This made my Father’s Day weekend!! My favorite channel by far!!
2:08: I know what you are thinking, and YES, that guy starring in "They Live" IS none other then late pro wrestling legend, and icon of trash talking and ass kicking, "Rowdy" Roddy Piper!
OMG it totally is!
'I have come here to chew bubblegum and kick a**... and I'm all out of bubblegum.'
and the guy he fights with in the alley does the voice of the president on rick and morty
@@UCanBeatVideoGames Don't forget Keith "Captain Anderson" David is also in "They Live!"
@@endykun Funny he sounded and looked more like Julius from Saints Row.
I remember calling the Nintendo Hotline for help with the Dinosaur boss
I bet they got a lot of calls about that one! "Hey Bill, its another kid about that Dinosaur in the Simpsons"
I thought everyone back in the old days purchased the Nintendo power magazine for hints and tricks and tips
I really love watching the intros to each video you make to learn a quick history of the title you’re playing. Great work thank you
New fan and man I wish we had this channel when I was a kid, so many classics I can't wait for you to play
I remember begging my mom for this game.
It kicked my ass.
I feel that! As a kid I don't think I ever got past the mall!
The bad endings if Bart lose we’re hilarious. If you lost on the last level it was two robot Homers as the ultimate destroyer
Nice work, man! I rented this game as a kid and had no idea what to do or where to go. Watching you showcase all the nuance was very entertaining, and makes me want to try it again!
Played this when I was in high school. Glad to say I finished this game. Finished Bart vs the World too.
This was way too hard for me
Newer played this one but my parents got me the sequel “vs the world” and man was it hard for an eight years old boy.
Hopefully you’ll get to the sequel someday
Either was, great video as always 👍
I owned both "vs the World" had a couple super tedious levels especially the North Pole stages. Both had some difficult platforming. The Hollywood area at the end had some hard levels too.
Now we are on the Home stretch. I look and you are missing the r from Homer, well done sir.
My man.... You've opened my eyes to a game I've been playing for nearly 30 years!! Not just this video, but your others too. Allow me to bow to you, good sir!
that's awesome! glad you're enjoying it!
huh, never played this one, and only faintly remember hearing about it. And yet this was still a fun watch.
Anyhow, I am a recent subscriber and think you do a fantastic job. You combine the best parts of a walkthrough, a game guide and a retro review, and the pacing of all three somehow really works. You're naturally funny, and you're genuine in your appreciation for these games. I look forward to more of your content. Sorry for all the gushing.
Some humble recommendations from my own NES library to consider for the future: Pro Wrestling, Astyanax, Faxanadu, Deja Vu, Castlevania 3. Thanks!
i never got past that first level when i was a kid. played the hell outta it though
This was one of those okay games that could have been great. Controls was 1 limiting factor. The second is the lack of information. The first few times I played this game I had zero clue what I needed to do. You can also tell where the creativity was dialed back in order to finish a game. The first level you are buying different items to remove purple in several different ways. From cheery bombs, to rockets to scare off birds. Covering items with towels and many more ways to clear goals. Level 2 is collect hats. Level 3 is collect balloons. Level 4 is Exit signs. Level 5 is radioactive rods. Most of the secrets are fairly obscure. Why would anyone jump on a single garbage can more than 30 times? It's not a bad game, but the frustrating platforming cancels out any fun you may have had.
Love your videos. Thanks for making them :)
I recognize many of these games from my youth and in general I have no interest in going back to beat them. That said, I find your combination of brief history/context at the beginning of your videos along with a casual commentary playthrough to be very nice to watch. Its interesting to learn about the history of these games and I like that you don't care if you get hit or make a mistake as you play. Very chill channel.
Hardest working dog on youtube is back!
🐕 Thanks!!
What if I told you I'm 100% on board and ready for this episode, and what if I told you I'm looking forward to everything else you put out?
All-right!
This's both super calming, and ultra NES levels of anxiety at the same time. I was cringing in my seat worse than Ninja Gaiden, wowzers.
I love your formula.
Informative and informative.
I was about to request this game.
Like: Roger Rabit and Cool World.
@Tashiro Sato
Already know that, so??
Do you have thing for humans meeting cartoons
@@haileyshannon7548 hmm no...
I finally beat this game! This was #8 for me using your guides. Thanks for all the help, I had everything down really good, but struggled with the dinosaur. Once I figured out that I could wait on his head until he fired, jump down and jump back up it was easier. Thanks for the tremendous guide! Might try Faxanadu next, never really played it but looks interesting!
I was playing this last week on my original NES and forgot how damn hard this game is. 😂 Thanks for the video…brought back memories of me beating it back in 1991 as a kid.
You make even the most difficult game look super fun! Huge fan of your channel! Great work!
This seems like one of those games that if you didn't know how to get the extra hidden lives and coins, or a walkthrough to tell you what to do on level 1... you'd never beat it
Trial and error. I eventually managed to complete this one years ago, but others I struggled with. I think it was dependent on what games you owned and could invest the most time into. Or traded with friends for.
I owned this game, mastered the first level, but it seemed like after that the levels were just super hard platforming. Not like the first level at all.
I know the mall is the second level with that hard ass platforming.
This game was hard and quit as a kid
Me and my buddies used to play this game, but we never made it past the first level ever, thanks for scratching that itch 👍👍
What a ridiculously cryptic game. Once you know all of the secrets it doesn't seem so bad but still. Insanity.
You should do a video on Zombies Ate My Neighbors since it's being rereleased on modern consoles!
Kinda curious if you'd ever do Escape From Camp Deadly, or other game boy games
They are fairly easy, though
If you want to revisit this game, there are a lot of easter eggs hidden by the developers. 1 on stage 1 (Jump where the grass meets the sky to the right of the bush, push down shown at @8:44), several on stage 2 (several complicated trash cans, remove boot boss's hat with X-Ray specs on, lots of references to "Henry Wills" who probably made the level), several on stage 3 (codes/sequences to input at the games), and 1 on stage 4 (jump max height 6 times on the first dino spine @35:24). You can find all the info on the TCRF article on this game.
What I seriously like about this production... From the viewer's perspective it appears you're playing and narrating in real time. My logical brain tries to convince me that the only sane way to really do this is via save-states between levels and narrate once the playthrough is done.
Top-notch YouTubing, easiest sub of my week so far. Thanks for satisfying at long-standing curiosity, this game was a true enigma to childhood me.
Speaking of "A boy and his blob" I'd love for someone to explain to me how TF to play that game lol
ive seen both a walkthru and a speed run of that game and i still cant figure it out lol
Its definitely on my list!
@@UCanBeatVideoGames other 2 ninja gaiden games and Fester's Quest also!
Something about that game, I absolutely loved it back in like 1992. There was a kid who lived at the corner of my street, Charlie, he had the game and I would borrow it from him. Only problem, Charlie didn't know where the bathroom was and would go beside my house or his house...and he always smelled like well, you know. Despite me hanging with the smelly kid to play that game, I still don't know how to play it lol.
I beat this when it launched but I was stuck on the final level for hours. My first and only time, I called the nintendo counselors and they did t know what to do. I could hear him flipping pages in a book or magazine. I never thought Maggie would have the final rod
they were probably like “whoa, uh… no one else ever made it this far before. uhh hang on…”
either that or they were told “this costs $3.99 a minute, so keep them on the line for a while before you give them any answers” lol
What were they flipping through Nintendo power magazine
This is hands down thee most cryptic game ever how I the hell could anyone figure this out? This has been my new favorite channel thank you so much for all of the walk throughs. I hope your channel grows through the roof. I wish you streamed live.
Hey, I just came across this video and your channel. Your videos are of superb quality sir and I will be enjoying the last 8 months worth and all of those to come. I beat some of the hardest of the NES in it's day but not this one for sure.
As Freddy Quimby once said, “I’m going to enjoy this!”
I think I got to the second level maybe once or twice as a kid... This game was so bad at telling you what to do
I’ve been waiting my whole life to finish this game, It’s been a long
Long long long time. Breaking out my NES now!
I beat this game back when I was in 3rd grade. Awesome! Thanks for the upload and the memories

@@burntyper Okay guy just because someone was a kid during the Nintendo classic days doesn't mean you know the tips and tricks to these games. I was part of that gaming era myself.
Nintendo Power or any video game magazine from the early 90s probably had entire sections devoted to this game
I hated this game as a kid. Expectations were high especially since the Simpsons arcade game was already released
Sad thing is visually and controls-wise there's a solid package there. It just needed way better direction
Awesome videos!! This is one I really need to watch
Wow, I never made it as far as level 2 boss. I never knew there was so much more game. Like others had mentioned, this was a rage quit title came out when I was 11. You make such great content. I am happy to have stumbled on you. Been watching a lot of your back catalog. You have a world class way of presenting.
I remember spending hours every day in this game. I think the furthest we ever got was level 3. Absolutely LOVE your videos!!
I owned this game and played it relentlessly for years. On a good day the farthest I could get was the carnival. This one’s up there with Battletoads for difficulty! Another great upload.
Just wanted to say that I love the channel and it's a great idea! I love watching the old games I used to play as a kid get beaten once and for all.
These videos are great... can't wait to see you tackle Battle Toads
Dope variation on a play through, the commentary makes it. Good shit.
Thanks, Stephen!!
Just discovered your channel! I love walkthrough vids. Keep 'em coming! Just subscribed.
Very good guide. I know i never could beat even the first level as a kid playing this. I learned so many secrets. Great stuff.
Thank you!! This game was so hard when I was a kid! I think I made it to the mall once or twice, but never past that.
This is an awesome breakdown of the game, with so many strategies and tips that I missed as a kid (as are all of the others you've done)! I could never get past the Springfield museum, but after watching this video, I'm super tempted to go back and give it a try!
Thank you!! The museum is very tough, if you can beat the tar pits and the Dinosaur, the rest of the game is pretty easy. Def let me know if you try it again and beat it!
Nice. Been waiting for this one
Hope you enjoy it!
This game only ever had two levels as far as I was concerned. I never saw more than 25% of this game, until now.
