Відома українська колискова з давньою історією та сучасним музичною обробкою. Мало хто знає, що ця народна пісня була вперше надрукована майже два століття тому у 1837 і що композитор Джордж Гершвін взяв її за основу для відомого твору «Summertime» (1935).
This is a famous Ukrainian traditional lullaby in a bit modern version. Few people know that this folk song was first printed almost two centuries ago in 1837 and that composer George Gershwin used it as the basis for the famous piece Summertime (1935).

Чудове виконання української колискової пісні про яку я раніше і не здогадувався. Це добре - коли ми відновляємо нашу трохи забуту спадщину у вигляді давніх пісень та звичаїв!

Do you know the song Вітре буйний? Or is that considered Cossack not Ukrainian folk? I wouldn't know.

@maxravenous8277 I heard it when a famous choir from Kuban was singing. It's a beautiful and dramatic song. Love it. Thank you for the idea.
By the way, cossaks were Ukrainian men who valued freedom and defended Ukrainian land. So, "Вітре буйний" could be performed by anyone, even cossaks. But this song isn't folk because lyrics belong to Taras Shevchenko, our famous poet of 19 century. That was interesting for me to find out some information... thank you🤩

@@MavkaSinger-9 Yes, I heard it first by that choir and Marina Golchenko singing it many years ago and it stuck with me. I made an arrangement for myself but I can't speak the language so it's just gibberish. I found an English translation once but it probably doesn't work with the music, so it's probably just best to learn it phonetically if I wanted to do it properly. The Cossack thing is a little confusing because I've come across choirs from Russia too. The difference between them and the broad Slavic groups they live amongst is not exactly clear to me.

@@maxravenous8277 Oh, it is lovely that you made an arrangement, so you are a musician)) As for the Kuban Cossacks choir...Kuban was a place where Ukrainian cossacks came and settled a couple of centuries ago. So, despite being now a part of the Russian Federation, many of local people there speak Ukrainian and sing our songs.

@@MavkaSinger-9 Yeah, keen amateur musician. So I'm often looking up European trad music, either my own (British/Celtic) or Slavic, which is why your vids came into my feed. I was thinking of buying a garmon recently but got cold feet. What I really needed was a chromatic one because it's too hard to sing with a convenient key otherwise. In the end guitar is probably still better. // Okay, I didn't know Kuban was a specific region, now it makes more sense. So they are like the Bretons in a way, who left Wales and settled in what became France and now they're 'stuck' there.
