- The headphone jack has a long legacy in the audio world. So when Apple decided to exclude it from the iPhone 7, consumers were up in arms. In the years since, Samsung has been a champion for those who still wanted the headphone jack Samsung even went so far as to run a headphone jack commercial mocking Apple. But with the release of the Galaxy Note 10, it too has forgotten the decades-old technology. Did Samsung prove Apple right by killing the headphone jack?

The Rise And Fall Of The Headphone Jack
The main reasons I still use wired headphones are
1. No batteries
2. Easily switch between devices
Also you don't need the USB-C adapter, which will only wear out your charge port faster. All my old phones had charge port issues before the batteries started dying.
I like to keep my ear bud on my phone the wired so I know where they both are.
I have mi headphones which can be used both ways i use it mostly wirelessly but when it comes latency in games its bad so i use the other way around as well i.e wired

Who the hell wants a pen with it? You'll just lose it.
I know, right?! I mean of ALL phones Samsung could have chosen to remove the headphone jack they chose the Note.... Usually their biggest phone
2021: your phone doesn't come with a charger. but you can buy it for a cheap price of 129.99$

Just buy a dongle and plug it into a power bank, you'll be fine!"

You still can. Ditch their proprietary connector and get a dual connector.
@@iair-conditiontheoutsideai3076 The sad part is that we as consumers have to come up with solutions, for problems like these and not the company's that make these devices.
I had to think a bit to understand this comment. My phone has a separate plug for the headphone jack and the charger.
I am not going to buy a phone that is inconvenient to me.
@@iair-conditiontheoutsideai3076 , outdated? Who decides that? I guess we can also stop using cameras, since they are also old technologies.
@@iair-conditiontheoutsideai3076 , what is there to understand about the history of auxillary ports? My laptop doesn't need LAN when it can use WIFI/WLAN, because there is hardly any inconvenience to the switch. I had wireless headphones at school. They needed to be charged, they needed battery replacements, they needed pairing, they caused my phone to discharge quickly. Moreover i try to keep wireless communications as minimal as i can, especially after i noticed that turning Flight mode off, caused me headaches, when the phone connects to a network.
Please understand me. I can build and program Bluetooth and the 3.5mm audio connection from scratch, i just don't want to be told what to use by some people working in some companies, because they need to earn.
Oh no, this is not a "rise and fall", it's a dirty move of the smartphone companies to sell you more products you don't actually need, now they sell you "promotional bundles" of the phone and their tws headphones instead of just the phone, and knowing damn well that lack of quality and stability are still an issue even in 2022
There's no fall in headphone jack demand. It's still relevant & will be for a very long time.
Yeah, glad most mindrange smartphones still have them.
Now even midranges are beginning to remove them. Bluetooth headphones are improving, and you have two other options, a dongle or a usb c headphone, the only real downside to those is you can't use it and charge, but frankly, it doesn't take that long to charge.

The thing is while it made sense to remove the floppy drive, it's simply not the same with the headphone jack. The wired headphones are still superior to Bluetooth ones and don't need recharging and don't have a battery that will die and make the (Bluetooth) headphone useless.
The floppy drive was available as a corded external device, and it was bulky. Eliminating the floppy was not eliminating the convenient port for an external floppy drive. The headphone jack is neither complicated nor bulky. There was no need to get rid of it, other than corporate greed. And it wasn't just for headphones. It was to make your phone into a portable internet radio that could easily be plugged into amplified speakers or a stereo receiver/amplifier. The headphone outlet very easily feeds a line-level input to a stereo, with a simple Y adapter cable.
@ben yosep
Using a dongle is so easy, after a user has lost it? My tiny smart-phone has all of those features, that they supposedly no longer have room for. And my phone can charge and tune in internet-streamed radio stations, and feed an amplifier or speaker at the same time.
How are they superior? Bluetooth has better sound and are wireless
@@blacklyfe5543 Come on, get back to the topic, which was bashing greedy corporations for doing away with good features that much of the public still wants. I am still mad about the loss of the headphone jack, and I don't even have an iPhone. It is the principle of the thing, the greedy exploitative corporation.
@@blacklyfe5543 Bluetooth devices use compression to save bandwidth so the quality will suffer. Plus if you ever have pairing issues you might think twice about using Bluetooth headphones. Plus a wired headphone can work with many devices not just your phone. My friend still uses a wired headset on his DJ equipment and he still use that headset on his phone.
I remember 3 years ago where I was doing the audio for a live event and there was a "kpop dance battle" where people could bring their own music through their phones. I simply connected a headphone-jack cable to my mixer and people could play their tunes over the PA. This worked perfectly until someone came with an Iphone 7....
So I bought a bluetooth audio receiver because of this, but this introduced a huge problem: it has no security. This means that anyone who ever connected to the receiver, could take over the audio feed from within the audience, disrupting the ongoing act. With the headphone jack you don't have this problem! Only the phone connected to the cable can play audio! Hell! In pro audio we still use 6,35mm jacks!
Or in arcades where the rhythm game cabines offer headphone amps: simply plug in the cable and you have that game's audio on your headphones. Well try that with bluetooth! 8 different cabs all sending differen signals and spectators who can ruin your game by connecting to you cab's bluetooth transmitter. It's a mess!

Samsung had at least 4 models with a 3.5mm jack that were also IP67 water resistant.
I still have an iPhone 6 for this reason. The only way to listen and charge at the same time with an iPhone 7 and later is to use Bluetooth headphones, which I’m never using again. I had a pair of those for a year once and felt such a relief when I went back to corded headphones.
The iPhone 6S Plus is the best phone Apple ever made.
(This comment was brought to you from an iPhone 6S Plus.)
It´s not about price. The fact that I don´t need to worry about charging one more thing in my daily routine makes wired headphones unbeatable. Simple as that.
True dat
Literally how I feel. Also, wired headphones are a lot less easier to freaking lose.
When your house is a charging station. You won’t really care about it anymore
I mean my AirPods are nearly 18 months old and I charge them like twice to 3 times a week with HEAVY usage
Stop fixing whats not broken.
Wireless headphone makes life worse
2030: The Rise And Fall Of The Mobile Smartphone
This could be extremely accurate and possible. Smartwatches are developing, and in future, I believe that people only need a pair of wireless earphones + a smartwatch for communication, and a small-size tablet for further tasks like entertainment, editing, or office working.
Anthony Le nah
Oh it's coming baby!
@@AnthonyLe902 smartphones are really overestimated. Screens are too small to type and lots of other things.
@@AnthonyLe902 I prefer having a phone that a smart watch screen is bigger and easier for me to use
I have rejected buying two phones due to the lack of a headphone jack. I'm happy to come down the range to get the headphone jack. By the way, put the FM radios back in the phones!
I'm using a Headphone Jack to listen to the audio of this video.
they just invented a new market by removing this jack.
are you seriously asking why they did it?
common sense is no longer common
Exactly! Wireless earphones are literally 5-10x more expensive, require a charging case, and are easier to lose.
Let's not buy phones without headphone jacks so they will know...
are you kidding, people are Apple junkies. Maybe they can resist Samsung, but Apple says "give me your money" and they all can't pull out their wallets fast enough.
Ali Devrim OGUZ but no one's gonna give up Apple... That brand has so much power, that they've been selling Iphones over $2000 even though it costs Apple $20 to make. I guess people just wont give it up!
To be honest wireless headphones are so much more convenient and easy to use. I have a phone with headphone jack but I still use a Bluetooth headphone
@@MrHarsh3600 I don't want people to get in my phone via Bluetooth. My headphones dying during a long airplane flight or car ride, people taking my headphones off of my head and running away. Wired is best.
Just vote with your wallet, for me I've ditched the habit of buying flagship top phones 2 years ago.
So many affordable but excellent phones out there anyways.
I seriously get headache while using any sort of wireless headphones / earphones.
Samsung says that it removed the headphone jack to provide more room for powerful battery! yet the battery life is poor compared to iPhones
I'm listening to this using a headphone jack.
So pretty💗
You two commenting are disgusting creeps. You think women would ever be interested in you, the way you creep on them?
Same
Howdy fellow wired.
Me too
Corded headphones! How else will I pull up my phone from the floor of my car while driving?
Paul D thank you. Not to mention the iPhone headphones don’t stay in my miniature ears
Two things that bother me with this: one, you're listening to music through earbuds while driving, and two, your phone shouldn't be dropped on the floor if you're the one driving.
Hahahaha yes!!!!!! Only not when driving but at home when it falls somewhere - I pull it up by my headphone wire lol
2030 - Sir you gotta pay more for the display ,it doesn't come along with the phone
Charging the headphone is a headache, i will always goes with the wired..
I think that Samsung must bring back the headphone jack + SD Card too, or they'll lose many consumers.
joryboyfpf408 they won’t, because what’s the alternative? Who has a headphone jack?
They have the SD card slot though.
I wont buy phone without headphone jack.i use it everyday on s9 plus.i rarely use my ulevel pro wireless headphone.
Get some sony wh-1000xm3 and they still have sd card slot not going anywhere
I would agree with the sentiment. While there are not that many in my opinion, there are some people who want a headphone jack. Why exclude part of your customer base for a marginal gain?
A physical audio jack and wire is universal, time tested and has been through multiple wars.... Just saying
@Bergen Pohl you're not wrong but false equivalence also horses got replaced by significantly faster better automobiles
Mine broke yesterday.
@@nntflow7058 trrs ? I'll fix it for ya if you want
Okay, they are missing the other feature of corded headphones provides is FM Radio service. Also the developing world market for phones for 3rd-2nd world countries is greater than a high-end flagship sales.
Jack as a mic input is something that bluetooth headphones cant really substitute.
IP rating has nothing to do with jack removal! Samsung, LG and other OEMs famously had both jacks and IP rated protection
