Now this is the kind of beat making video I love. There's a TON of "okay I got this sample, let's make a beat" videos out there but very few that show the process of hunting for samples, what to listen for and how what was heard can be flipped. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and wisdom.

What HE listens for
Having a drum loop to "test out" the sample is genious! Definitely stealing that!
I swear if this channel does not blow up I don't understand the beatmaking community anymore. It really doesn't get any better than this.
Good advise paired with dreamy, bouncy, groovy beats and a very relaxing dude that obviously has a big heart for sampling, beat making and music in general.
I looked for J Dilla style tutorials and tips on youtube and there isn't any channel that comes this close to the kind of sound and advise that I was looking for.

Roberta & Donny are just great! Have some of their albums in my collection. Donny's daughter is a great vocalist ( Lalah Hathaway). She's done some great stuff with Snarky Puppy.

@@mpchead i just tried your method of having the drums looped in the background and man thats game changing for me. it makes it a lot easier to hear the little pieces that might sound good without just looking for full loops! You’re the 🐐 bro! Oh and Roberta Flack got 🔥, i just went through First Take and still have 2 of her other records to go through.

Great video man. Back in the day i used to buy 3 or 5 records and make beats. Now i buy 50 records and i study each song of the records. Whith this method you can find kicks snare hi hat voice and loop fx etc.. Some times when you listen to fast the records you loose very dope samples.

Dig your channel man. I’ve been sampling from my vinyl collection in my DAW for a while and got an MPC One recently after watching your videos. Really enjoying it and the workflow. I’ve got thousands of vinyl so it’s cool to just grab a few records and make a jam. Faster and way more fun than doing it on the computer.

What is your setup like? It seems so seamless. I find myself taking 10 times more steps than you do with “record- DAW”. I’d like to hook up my record player like that if you’d share.
My turntable has line out, I connect it straight to the mpc and just sample in slice mode. I don't do it like that all the time but I did in this video.
Do you just save chops in your directory even if they don't end up in a beat?
Additionally, do you have "just chop" sections?

@@mpchead Pois bem estava a começar a sentir a necessidade de os guardar para mais tarde. O que queria dizer era "just chop sessions" (enganei-me a escrever 🤦♂) - basicamente se há dias em que apenas ouves musicas e guardas samples mas não produzes beats.
