- On day 15 of the Lori Vallow murder trial, an important witness took the stand. The sister of the so-called doomsday mom who is accused of murdering her children after moving them from Arizona to Idaho. You can imagine the emotional moments as Summer Shiflet took the stand and testified against her own sister Lori.
Just two weeks after the devastating discoveries of JJ and Tylee, Summer got a request from Lori in jail for her to call her sister. The confrontation is intense as Summer can’t fathom how Lori and Chad celebrated on a beach in Hawaii when JJ and Tylee were buried in the ground.

When she says “you were dancing on a beach while your kids were in the ground…” she is speaking for everyone who heard this story and saw that photo. There isn’t a human being who could rationalize those two facts, except Lori and Chad.

That phone call broke my heart. She realized in an instant that her sister was a dark soul & a murderer.
Yes, it was oddly therapeutic to hear Summer ask Lori what we've all yearned to ask.

Lori is truly a sociopath. No emotion for her children. When I heard her laughing on the call with Colby it was undeniable but her cold reactions in this phone call only confirm it. Summer was beside herself with grief unlike the children’s mother.

The thing is someone doesn't suddenly turn into a mentally ill delusional sociopath in their 40s. Not unless very heavy drugs are involved in frying her brain or she became possessed herself by demonic spirits by doing demonic rituals with Chad or something. The fact that her sister and son are shocked of the change in her behavior and the fact they never would've believed she was capable of this tells me she was truly touched by evil. No other explanation to become a homicidal delusional psychopath at 47 years old.

They were both quite aware of reality. They are trying to get her off. She had no problems planning her husbands life. Chad is just as evil as Lori, but SHE is the one who did all the duping. SHE manipulated them all. SHE orchestrated all of it. I believe she poisoned 1*Joseph Ryan (for money and because she hated him) even though it was classified as a heart attack. Alex killing 2*Charles Vallow in "self defense" (again, she hated him and for the money) at Lori's behest, the murders of 3*Tylee and 4*JJ (they were in the way AND they had money - life insurance and Soc Sec - due to the deaths of their 2 dads) because SHE labeled them as spiritually "dark" - done, again, at her behest by Alex. *Brandon B, ex husband of Lori's niece, was shot at from the jeep by Alex (attempted murder) and I'm pretty sure she was in on that, too. Chad smothered his wife 5*Tammy Daybell so he and Lori could be together. Lori was totally fine with that - she wanted Chad so Tammy had to go. I'm pretty sure she prodded him along. Pretty sure Tammy had life insurance, too. She convinced Alex to elope and marry her friend Zulima, whom he barely knew. Then, when they exhumed Tammy, 6*Alex Cox was gonna sing like a canary, so he very conveniently dies of a heart attack on the bathroom floor. (I think he was also poisoned, tbh.) With Alex dead Lori didn't have to worry about him being questioned by the cops AND her bff Zulima got the life insurance payout. 6 dead people in one year because of HER. She was the mastermind and the manipulator... Chad was just her sexual minion.
In psychiatric hospitals around 1900, religious extremism or delusions were listed as a cause for institutionalizing patients.

I remember being very…. annoyed with her mother and sister when they did that interview defending Lori. I understood that they loved her, and I didn’t blast them online… but it was hard not to. I know people like to attack family members of killers. This call is an example of why people shouldn’t do this. I feel bad for having negative thoughts about Summer. You can hear the complete devastation in her voice. I can’t imagine.

Refusal to accept a loved one could commit evil crimes is very normal. It can also go the other way, where loved ones are all too willing to jump to the worst conclusion about a loved one. It's an awful position to be in, no matter what.

Does it seem like that if Lori had confided in her sister that God told her it was "his plan" to kill the children that she may have gone along with it? I know she says in this recording that killing the kids was absolutely not okay.. ( that tends to go without saying) but she seemed to put a lot more emphasis on feeling betrayed that she wasn't in the loop about it. Alex and Lori seemed to believe they could decide who lives and dies. Could the rest of their family have a similar belief system? Let God's will be done sort of thinking.

This is just heartbreaking to listen to. I was one of the people who deeply critized Summer when she did her first interview 2 years ago. But listening to this phone call i can see where it would be almost impossible to believe that your own sister who to loved and grew up with, killed her own children. Lori and Chad are monsters.

This is heartbreaking!! The contrast between Summer and Lori's voices when speaking of those poor children tells everything we need to know about Lori and her involvement. To hear Summer weep like that over those children has me crying. Yet, their mother has little to say??? My God! That is evil on another level!! Chad and Lori need the death penalty.

I'm fascinated when people maintain what I'll call 'fluid' morality, ie life laws they invent as they go. In my own life, I've only seen it in the micro.
This trial is presenting the most horrific version of it - apart from the inner constructs of, say, ruthless dictators.
The fact Lori responds with “it was months later” when talking about the kids being dead in the ground, while Lori is on the beach, smiling and getting married, is TELLING.
I think she might truly be clinically insane, she has no grasp of reality.
She at least agrees to date of their deaths as LE proposed.

Idk why, I don't know her but this makes me feel really proud of Summer. She didn't let Lori steam roll her, she didn't kiss Lori's ass at all. I can't imagine what Summer is going through, and probably their mom. After that TV interview, I really wondered if they knew at least something. But the rage and sorrow in Summer's voice tells me she honestly didn't know.

They had no idea that she was capable of such an act. You can hear the disbelief and devastation in that phone call. It’s not like she kept defending her after she found out about the children. That would be a different story. She let Lori know exactly how everyone was feeling. For that I would say she had great character for sticking up to her older sister when she finally saw the truth.

This phone call was very lethargic! To hear someone yell at Lori and confront her like that is something that I personally have wanted to do, but I lived up in Rexburg at the time that the kids first went missing.
So hearing her sister yell at her was very, very, um... therapeutic.

In the beginning, I worried that they didn't have enough evidence for a trial, much less a conviction. Now, the evidence against her seems staggering.

The world isn't evil, but we are waking up to the fact that human predators exist. Some people - psychopaths, sociopaths, narcissists, and people with cluster B personality disorders - are without empathy, conscience, and remorse. They are the predators of the human species. Sometimes they're physical predators, or emotional predators. But we need to understand them so normal people can protect ourselves - because they can't be cured and they don't want to change.

Can she hear herself?? I guess not. Even the way she answered the call. As soon as she hears that someone is upset, she puts up her defensive "what about me?" shield. Her voice changed to greet Summer's broken "Not good" with another "Not goo-ood" as though she was saying, "Well, don't blame me. Don't put those emotions on me with any kind of expectation..."
Normally a narcissist would at least receive the cue that they need to *perform* emotions to match what people expect of them in the moment, perform grief, sadness, anything. But she barely bothers. The nonchalance, the calm, the contempt for people who are upset with her... Even her concessional laughter while people she is supposed to love are in agony over the kids... It's like she doesn't even register how she is coming across. It really indicates to me that she thinks she is a god walking among mortals and that this whole trial is the wicked world dragging her down from her higher purpose.

What kills me about this stupid ass call is the fact that this family’s delusional way of thinking is no wonder where Lori gets it from. The fact that Summer doesn’t mention the mysterious deaths of both Lori’s husband (who was THE ONLY ONE WHO really CARED about those children ) way before the dumb ass family watched her delusions to grow more and more. Then the mysterious death of Lori’s husband last wife should have raised alarm bells to the family before those babies were murdered. That family still decided to go on national television to defend Lori’s logic for not telling the authorities where the children were. Summer still during the call was trying to convince herself of the disgusting acts committed by Lori. Lori used everyone. Her family sided with her during her separation from Charles and would not talk to him. Then she leaves and goes to stay with Chad and stops talking to her family at all and tells them nothing that is happening with her or the children. She then said to her son and her sister that they don't know what happened-well, that's because she herself cut off contact with everyone.
Her sister couldn’t have put it any better when she said no one understands what she’s been through. She was seen laughing and dancing on a beach. Not exactly the actions of a troubled person.

That was hard to listen too. The pain in the Aunt voice had me in tears by the end. I couldn't imagine if it was my niece and nephew. This entire case is beyond sad.
It's gut wrenching for Summer and Lori is so detached "I took care of them their whole life" their short life until they became zombies. Lori doesn't have a problem with their deaths because in her mind the Lord (Chad) ordained it. Lori is an absolute oxygen thief.

Her only feelings and emotions are lust, power, greed, hate and joy when she gets what she wants.

She’s understandably hurt, and she is now forced to confront the fact that her own sister, someone she deeply loved and thought she knew, did the unthinkable: killed her own children, just so she could live the life that she wanted to.
You can hear her heartbreak, terror, horror, shock, and outright fury in this. And now you have to live with the fact that your own sister did this.
People tend to forget that loved ones of the perpetrators are just as affected by the killer’s actions as the victim’s loved ones are.
RIP Tylee and JJ. You didn’t deserve what happened to you both.
