I happen to like the way 100% cotton shirts wrinkle in a dress shirt during the work day. Maybe I'm old fashioned, but I love to press a shirt and let it wrinkle naturally as I wear it.

I deliberately break the "match your socks to your pants" rule. I like to wear borderline outrageous socks, especially if I'm wearing dress pants and a jacket. It's a good pop of color, like a pocket square.

The 'proper fit' issue is one I've struggled with. Oversizing, whether it used to be a trend in the 80's, being raised by Depression Era parents who want you to 'grow into it', hiding body parts, or thinking/wishing I was bulkier...has influenced me into the early 2000's. It looks sloppy and juvenile. I had jackets up to 42R (and I'm really 38S). I can understand guys needing to dress looser for comfort, but I feel so much better wearing clothes that are sized for the person I really am.

Store clerks don’t understand math. You try to buy a dress shirt and they show you a shirt that is 32/33. Someone needs to explain to them that 32 inches can never be 33 inches no matter what they put on a label, which is why I have made my shirt made. They fit and are worth the money.

Good basic dressing info for men presented in the right tone for most . A personal preference of mine that I never figured out until the last couple of years is what it is about certain shirts I don't like even when I can find one that ticks most of the boxes for me is button colour . I prefer a dark shirt to have same colour buttons. - a line of white buttons on dark fabric is distracting and lowers the look of quality on shirts IMO - just saying' . It's also harder to find shirts with same colour buttons .

    • @40OverFashion
      @40OverFashion  Před 3 měsíci +5

Yeah, I see your point, especially with black shirts. If you really love the shirt, and it’s the right color, and the right fit, just have a tailor replace the buttons.

For the wrinkle test it may have been helpful to mention the fabric makeup of the shirts. I would assume 100% cotton would wrinkle more than a poly/lycra blend. I’ve followed your advice about wearing properly fitted clothes for years now. Baggy is unflattering no matter your body size. And this is for older guys, wear pants and shirts with at least some stretch. They fit much better and are way more comfortable. Ween off the Levi’s.

3:06 100% cotton vs cotton/poly blend makes a huge difference - and of course different types of cotton 'wear' and 'resist' wrinkling differently - 'non iron' branded shirts from Hilfiger, Klein, or Ellis are pretty reliable in terms of wearability, style, and endurance....cheers.

Love the channel. The wrinkle test unfortunately does almost the opposite of telling the quality of a material. Most shirts that don’t wrinkle or are wrinkle resistant are made out of polyester. And polyester is cheap man made material that is not breathable. Unfortunately a lot of companies use it because it is cheaper than natural materials.

This is not true actually .. the quality of the material is very much down to weaving and processes .. polyester is far superior for many styles and often can be more expensive with better weight. It also washes and holds colour better and can be far more high end look and touch. Stop following a nonsense woke agenda and lose the soyboy herd attitude and try to learn more before throwing nonsense unfounded opinions out. Chinese is generally cheap and poor quality so maybe aim your liberal nonsense towards the Chinese fashion industry thanks

Some of the most wearable fabrics are polyester based, which is basically plastic clothing. It's not the end of the world as some suggest. But legitimate concerns do exist on the effect of male hormones. It would be helpful to have some content focused on natural fabric options, although I admit that is a challenge.

Collars and Co. is one of the worst companies in America . As long as your shirt fits perfectly, then they are fine. If you need customer service for anything then you are screwed. They routinely send the wrong size or pattern to you. They have no customer service phone # to contact people. They only accept emails that they hardly ever answer. They have employees that write reviews to make their reviews look good. On many review sites they have around a 1.5 out of 5 and that is terrible.

If you're talking about the scrunch test, John T. Molloy advised it in his book Dress for Success. He said that high quality fabrics (apart from linen) don't wrinkle as easily as cheap ones, and if you wear cheap materials that wrinkle badly, it gives a bad impression. It doesn't matter whether you're in sales, climbing the corporate ladder, or whatever; looking like a wrinkled mess makes you look like a loser.

I'm an old geezer now, going on 17. If I had to give my younger self any advice, it would be this: don't waste your time or your mind on clothes, It will only dissipate your energies. There are important things in life; devote yourself to them. (PS: My younger self was an asshole. Too much time & too much money spent trying to impress people with my tie & sock wisdom. The only one who looked at what I was wearing was myself and I. Real People don't give a rat's ass about your ability to pull off Chic at the drop of a brass button. Trust me, a wrinkled smile & crow's feet are a testament to a life well-lived. People who smile freely and display a kind heart are the winners in life; cherish the times you share with them. They might leave you feeling better about yourself. Don't spend your time on a bitch with good taste, there is nothing to be gained. I mean that in the most sincere way. And stop studying models on the catwalk and in the ads. They all look like their feet hurt, and they can't go on another step, or another day. Life stinks. Fashion loves misery.)

The fact that Cuban liked it is a reason NOT to buy ANYTHING from them!

The shirts of Collars & Co are fine. Do not buy the half zip so called sweaters. They are a glorified track outfit and feel like a sweat shirt.. no way are they a sweater

Checked out Collars & Co and unfortunately it's a bunch of stuff adulterated with stretch fibers. Stretch fabric is junk from the fast fashion industry, made to wear out very quickly. It winds up being extremely expensive due to constant replacement. It's an ecological nightmare because it can't be recycled. Also it never fits right because it doesn't break-in to your body shape. I could go on but that's enough for me to say no.

With some love, this is all very, very basic advice. “Match your belt and shoes.” C’mon. Thats not even 101 level.
That advice will help you not look like a teenager, but it’s not exactly what most people are looking for when they click a style video.
I’m sincerely not trying to troll. I just expected a bit more.

Sorry, this one missed the mark for you, but some people need more help than others. Appreciate the feedback though.
