  • The way you raise a champion in sports and in life is by allowing your child to pursue their dreams, and believe that anything is possible.
    Ashton Eaton is known as the “World’s Greatest Athlete.” In the 2012 Olympic Games in London, Eaton won the gold medal in the decathlon, soon after setting the world record at the Olympic trials in Eugene, Oregon. Today Eaton competes for the Oregon Track Club Elite team in Eugene, where he trains to defend his titles at the 2015 Worlds in Beijing, China, the 2016 IAAF World Indoor Championships in Eugene, and the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Eaton plans to return to London for the 2017 World Championships. Eaton was raised in Bend, Oregon, by his mother Roslyn (“Roz”). Roz Eaton is an important figure in her son’s success as well as multiple philanthropic events throughout Central Oregon.

    I didn't know his backstory while watching him win the gold at Rio but when he was embracing his mother after his win, it was very apparent that this was the story of being raised by a single mother. Very touching.

    What a unique and inspiring presentation. It all comes down to opportunity and encouragement as well as some good fortune(lack of injury, sickness etc).
    Good luck in the coming olympics Ashton, you are one of the all-time greats in athletics. And thankyou to your mother for her great job in this talk and raising you.

      ***** HAHA never knew. But I still don't find them better than a top athlete that's great in very similar events, like Bolt and Phelps for example. They aren't even competitive in most of their events when you compare them to the standalone athletes.

    On a physical level, I'm pretty sure the African lineage in his blood helped a great deal, because we know blacks are known for their athletic abilities and speed.

    • @cpfishfan14
      @cpfishfan14 Před 7 lety +8

      then how do you explain that his blond wife is also a world champion and bronze medalist?

    • @C1rcu1tBr34k3r
      @C1rcu1tBr34k3r Před 7 lety +4

      No one said that blacks are the only winners in Olympic events. His wife received bronze but wasn't the winner of the gold an afro-Belgium woman? I believe it was. However Ashton does have a genetic make-up that gives him an advantage in events involved with locomotion. Ashton's physical make-up looks to have a larger genetic African signature.Black people have longer legs, relative to their height, which effectively gives them the physical advantages of a taller person, while at the same time reducing the amount of body weight their legs need to move. The result is, that black people are typically able to move more quickly on land than caucasian people of a comparable height.
      In contrast, in the pool, longer arms are advantageous because arms are hugely important for propulsion. Because caucasians have longer arms, relative to their height they have an advantage. See how that works? Ashton is not participating in any swimming events.

    • @cpfishfan14
      @cpfishfan14 Před 7 lety

      He competes in the decathlon. There is more to it than running. Besides in the longer runs is more about resistance than raw speed. The previous two Olympic champions in the event were white guys from eastern Europe. BTW the lack of black swimmers is due more to the fact that most black people cant swim. and because the swimming infrastructure is expensive.

    • @C1rcu1tBr34k3r
      @C1rcu1tBr34k3r Před 7 lety +1

      cpfishfan14
      The two previous winners of the Decathlon were not Eastern European. Ashton won in London 2012 and Bryan Clay(USA) won this event in Beijing, 2008. Bryan Clay is not Eastern European, he is Blasian, mixed with Black and Asian. I'll agree blacks may very well not good swimmers because they have a higher muscle density, giving them less buoyancy, which is why they excel at other events like sprints and boxing where this muscle density is a required factor, and I would also agree that financial factors and opportunity cost plays a role in this reason as well, In the same sense that we do not see a lot of blacks (if any) competing in Hockey and Golf.

    • @cpfishfan14
      @cpfishfan14 Před 7 lety +1

      if you look at the all time top decathlon athletes 2 are half black and the rest are all white. Race has nothing to do with it. As you said the winner in 2008 is half asian which are stereotyped as poor athletes. So I don't see the connection between race an sporting success. Obviously some body types will excel in certain specialties and the balance of red vs white fibers is critical, but real science has linked race to the proportion of fibers. After all while the Jamaican do well in short distance the Kenyans do so in long distance. Yet they are black but their makeup is obviously different.

    Blaze the reason i called you a racist was your comment " He didnt want nothing to do with him, something afro americans known for". However his mother's parents and grandparents wanted nothing to do with Aston's mother. However you totally went to 1 person (black) not doing the right thing by Aston... However there were 4 people (white) that did not do the right thing by Aston's mother ..... you totally focusing on the 1 bad (african american) vs the 4 bad whites. Racist just look at the error on the race they hate but are totally clueless that other races (their own) do the same error. Looking at this case what was done to his mother was worst. As noted it was a beautiful thing that you decide to turn ugly.
