  • ‘My Mother Diana’ is the story of Charles and Diana's marriage from a new and revealing point of view. It’s the story of how their marriage shaped William. It explores the effect of his mother’s relationships, the tell-all book she collaborated on with Andrew Morton, the effects of her Panorama interview and William's reaction to his father’s relationship with Camilla. On the surface William appears to be a product of the old order, groomed by the House of Windsor. But William is the son of Diana - who transcended celebrity and transformed the monarchy. This film seeks to understand William by exploring his relationship with his mother and examines where William was as key moments of her later life played out; because what she went through made him who he is today Why did William propose using his mother’s engagement ring? And what does it tell us about this future King and the legacy of his mother Diana? Fourteen years after her death Diana’s influence appears undiminished. But will William be the King Diana wished him to be?

    William was very close to his mother, and he is very much like Diana, personality wise. I’m happy that he is going to be king someday. It was Williams idea that Diana auction off her dresses to sale for charity, it was William who would hold his mom while she cried about Charles. Kate is a lucky woman

      I don’t think he really got it. Whatever people think of him, he really should’ve been with Camilla from the beginning. She seems to understand him & knows protocol. Diana, for all the press & much of the public liked about her, she was way too young & while yes, she was from the right kind of family, emotionally, she was a child.
      What she needed, he couldn’t give & the same goes for her. I don’t believe he was deliberately trying to be cruel. He was just clueless.

      I think ur right. He was speaking out of total ignorance. Diana loved like a child.. (as children r so innocent they love all, very sweet).. Charles was robbed of a mother at his very formative years.

      Joanne Schell well... your reply certainly was rubbish. How this went from one topic to Prince Andrew to Harry & Meghan, is all irrelevant.
      The point is that growing up as a royal meant that no, Charles had duty & responsibility to The Crown imposed upon him from the time he was born. This isn’t like being an MP where you’re voted in or out. You’re not a President. Charles was encouraged to be a playboy & just before his death, lord Mountbatten more or less said that there’s a type with whom you marry & have children & it’s not Camilla.
      I don’t care about his age; he really didn’t have any more maturity than she when it came down to it. Both of them had cold feet before that wedding & both sides pushed them to move forward anyway. They were an ill suited match. I don’t care how much people liked Diana; she was way too young. It’s hard for well adjusted people to marry a royal. Is it any wonder that Diana and Meghan couldn’t handle it? The Sophie of Wessex dated Edward for some time. The duchess of Cambridge did the same with William. Chelsy Davey discovered she couldn’t handle/wasn’t cut out for royal life.
      That’s not a personal affront. Charles was clueless, but he was used to a regimented day & emotions being tempered. Diana is carrying on, crying, wanting attention & of course he doesn’t get it. It can be said it’s the fault of the way the monarchy isn’t in touch with other people & live in a bubble, but no, setting our to hurt someone has never appeared to be on Charles agenda. More, affairs were also common & still are quite common in upper class society. Diana’s problem was the need for attention while saying she didn’t want it. You can’t try to use the press only when convenient. It will blow up in your face every time.
      Ultimately, I’m glad it worked out for Charles & Camilla.

      @gwenscott535 Před 4 lety +1

      I believe Charles started playing with Camilla when she was married, so neither of them had any respect for the marriage vow, a wrtten and verbal contract. They would then make poor business people because their word is not worth anything. So the crown should therefore be past to William.

    Diana was and is still loved by the British People, that will never change. As for the rest of them, there are simply no words to describe them all, especially with what`s been happening recently with Andrew No Sweat. As for Camilla, she`s still despised by the majority despite the spin saying otherwise.
    Diana did not need a spin Doctor, she was a natural.

    I‘m not done with this documentary yet but I think it’s quite heart-breaking how manipulative this whole relationship seems to have been. I thinks Charles behaviour is despicable as far as media coverage is telling us. He should not have married Diana if it was so clear he did not love her (let alone start/continue his affair with Camilla). But maybe forces out of their hands made them walk toward the altar. In that sense I feel for Diana - having to live under such scrutiny and pressure must be destructive to ones mental and physical health. On the other hand she herself showed that she was able to lash out underhandedly - these interviews were meant to show her in a favourable way and likeable to the public. All the rights to her to speak up about her struggles and tribulations and the mistreatment she had to endure- but why drag the children and Charles ability to become King into this debacle? It seems to me (again I have not finished the video yet) that the portrayal of Charles‘ and Dianas characters was too black and white. But then again - everything in history is.

    Charles was very immature he really needed a more Motherly figure hence Camilla. Diana was also immature totally not a good match. She was just used to provide an heir and a spare. They may have been bought up with riches but neither of them had a brilliant childhood. His parents were always away then he was sent off to boarding school. Her parents divorced and her and her siblings hated their stepmother. Pity her brother didn't let her move back to Althorp House. That was selfish of him.
    However she made huge mistakes looking for love and happiness with unsuitable men. Just think if she and him had separated quietly no affairs no tapes no interviews and got quietly divorced things might have turned out differently.
