*I upgraded from the 8 inch to the **Newest.Technology** 10 inch. I really didn't expect it to make that much difference but it has. It is also much faster and responsive. Great Purchase.*
Thanks for this! I have the Voyage and was thinking of getting the new Paperwhite. But the sharpness of the screen has always been my number one priority. That's why I returned the Oasis and kept my Voyage. My wife also has one. I don't really need the waterproofing and the Audible integration. So we're going to hang on to our Voyages until the screen has been significantly upgraded. Please continue doing these reviews!
Did you returned oasis 1 or 2?

Thanks so much for this comparison! You're the only reviewer I know that really mentions the contrast levels, I have a PW3 and a Voyage and the voyage is definitely always a nicer reading experience. It's such a shame amazon hasn't replicated its screen since.
Voyage stills the best since 2014
The voyage is the king of kindles. Nothing can match or compare to the beautiful aesthetic design and to the boldness and razor sharp clarity of the screen. Kindle quality has tanked since then.
Such a shame. Screen clarity and contrast is very important to me and the main reason I have no desire to buy the new kindles. Thanks for doing this comparison, it’s hard to find one for these 2 similar devices
Disappointing that a 2018 Paperwhite 4 cannot beat a 2014 Voyage in contrast or performance, even though the latter used to be the flagship device. Amazon only updates the Paperwhite every 2-3 years so PW4 will be here for a while. The inverted mode is a significant feature for nighttime readers. Even though LEDs that change to warmer/non-blue colors like latest Kobos or Nook GL3 would be ideal (Amazon why would you not offer this??), inverted mode is not bad.
I love my Voyage. So far I haven't seen any reason to switch to a newer Paperwhite or the Oasis. I use the side press buttons a lot too, so I would probably miss that on a Paperwhite.
Huh. Tfw you haven't used your Kindle in years, want to get back into reading, check out the latest models, then realize you still have the best model sitting in a desk drawer collecting dust.
Glad I held on to my Voyage all this time, I just hope the battery isn't too shot after 3 years of sitting there drained and unused, lol.
How about your device's battery life now?
@@stellameow4642 Not sure how their's is but I had stopped for a long time (years) and started reading voraciously the past 6 months. I honestly can't tell you how long it lasts since I can read 3-4 hours a day, finish 3-4 books and still not have to charge it. I feel like I'm charging it every 2-3 weeks but it's so far apart, I couldn't even tell you how often, LOL. That's a good thing!
@@pdxcher766 Thank you so much for your reply. That's quite reassuring!
I've had Kindle Voyage since 2015 and I've never had any issues with uneven light on it. I read a fair bit of reviews before deciding which model to buy and issues with light weren't mentioned anywhere. It would have put me off for sure and I'm glad I have the Voyage model. This video is the first time I've heard about this problem and I certainly never had it. Given that the screen is so much more superior on Voyage I'm not planning to "upgrade" to a new model. Poorer screen quality would be a downgrade IMO.
Thanks, dude. I lost my Voyage and ordered a Paperwhite 2018 (or whatever minor tweaked version may be out right now). I saw they had the same DPI and figured that was the only thing that mattered when I placed the order, but your video has reminded me I'll be missing those page turn sensors. Still, that's just me being spoiled...and maybe I'll find it one of these days, but it looks like the new Paperwhite will wind up still having been a good buy.
I have watched this a couple of times. I owned Oasis 9 and 10, said goodbye to them on EBay, have the latest Kindle paper white and then decided I still hadn’t found the perfect Kindle. I just go a refurbished Voyager on EBay and I am in complete agreement. This is the perfect screen and the perfect one hand size that I can stick in my pocket and be off. It is also a couple ounces lighter than the paper white. I use a ‘lazy hands’ Velcro’s on teh back which adds no weight and lets you read with a couple fingers and change hands. It is considerably handier to read with tha any cover will ever be able to match.
John Prince I am not an e-reader but I am becoming a one and got my eyes on the voyager. My only fear is that I like readying everywhere and water might be a problem (even when I used to read in the bathtub I used to put my phone in a plastic case since it’s not waterproof) so before making the decision can you tell me about the battery life so far?
thank you. have been looking for a comparison for ages.
I got the paperwhite 4 today, even after I seen this video. I thought you were probably being fussy but no, the screen does seem to have lower clarity and contrast than I expected. It is usable but I want clear and rich inky black writing and this is not it.
I just can't stand the power button on my Paperwhite 4. Not only is it at the bottom, but it's super sensitive. so whenever I have the thing on a stand every time I tap the screen to change pages. It ends up hitting the power button and turning the thing off. or whenever I try to put the thing in my pocket I somehow hit the power button and by the time I take it out of my pocket I'm like 30 pages into a book I haven't even started reading yet... Idk what Amazon was thinking. I'm waiting for a case to come out for it. That doesn't have a front flap. to hopefully cover up that power button a little bit
I had to replace my Voyage twice because the page turn buttons didn't work or one worked while the other button didn't. Now on my third Voyage which has been working fine but lately the battery is draining faster. And the back page button again stopped working. I did a test which I turned off the page turn buttons in the settings and then turned it back on again and now they work.... The Paperwhite 4 screen doesn't look as clear because of the waterproofing on it.
Podría ser una posibilidad, pero creo que si eso ocurriera pasaría lo mismo con la Oasis que también es waterproof y no veo que eso ocurra, queda la duda.
Super informative comparison video. I have a Voyage and I was wondering if it was worth trading in to get the new paperwhite because I wanted the waterproof feature not that I have any intentsions to spill water on it but it would be nice to not have to worry about it. A bit of a shame that the screen isn't as clear but the ability to invert the screen was something I didn't know about and I would LOVE that so you helped me make my mind up. I find the Voyage buttons on the side aren't super useful to me; it's hard to use them because of how thin the bezel is so I had to turn those off myself which negates some of the advantages of the Voyage for me which made it easier to decide. Is the power button still on the bottom of the Paperwhite? I kind of liked the button on the back of the Voyage.
I have a Voyage and a Paperwhite 4 and the screens on mine are nearly identical. If I stare at them for a while side by side I start to think I can see a difference but not enough to be sure. It's not something I can spot when reading.
I wonder if what you're seeing is just a difference from device to device?
Several people have reported the difference though.
As to the comment about it not being water proof, I suppose this is a potential negative though for me it’s all about enhancing my reading and I have I keep it amd I keep it in a felt case that and otherwise careful,
Clearer screen.... That's all I needed to know ...thanks
now with the voyage selling for anywhere from 60-70 bucks range on ebay used its become quite the budget option if you don't need audio books or inverted color mode
how would you not need ebooks on a kindle?! :D
@@jemand8462 lol good catch on my 4 month old comment totaly forgot I made this I have corrected it to audio books
Great video! Which one would you recommend for someone who doesn't have a Kindle yet?!
Yes
Thanks was thinknig of buying a paper white but because of this I would rather repair my kindle voyage.
Still have my Voyage and plan to keep it until the battery is trashed
I want a Paperwhite 3 Manga Edition vs Paperwhite 4 comparison
Voyage is the best model available in the market.
Incorrect about being unable to invert black/white text: easy to invert text on older kindles too: goto settings->all settings->accessibility->invert text.
pelahale hi I have pw3 firmware 5.12.2 can’t see accessibility anywhere. What firmware do you have?
Bought an oasis 2, a month ago. I'm so disappointed. The contrast is the worst, not to mention the poor battery life. Even my paperwhite 2 has a better contrast and darker text than oasis 2. What a bummer! 😒😩
Bad luck, you would think they would have deep inky black writing by now and white backgrounds you could adjust to taste ....
Doesn't the battery life decrease significantly if the LED is always a little bit on on the voyage?
Ahh i would love the Voyage better!
I want a new Kindle Voyage but i know they stop making them. Wish the Voyage had the Inverted Text Mode, too. Im soo torn. Im not sure if i should purchase a used Kindle voyage or a new Paperwhite 4..😩
As someone who owns both I’m always wondering when they’ll stop updating the Voyage which I hope they don’t . IMO it’s superior to the pw4. However buying the pw4 will give you security in how long you’ll keep the device. Hard decision.
Thank you very much .Which one would you recommend for someone who doesn't have a Kindle yet?!
when you highlight on either of these, can it be done in different colors?
Voyage should come back in 2021
Definitely
If only there was a kindle keyboard with a screen light...
I have a great Voyage specimen perfect screen. Yesterday I had a water incident with a thermos spilling and though I lost my Voyage. So I was considering a Prime day upgrade to waterproof Paperwhite. Thoughts?
Did u upgrade?
kindle voyage vs ppw5, please!
Can I mark or underline the words in those 2?
You can highlight words on any kindle
Can e-ink display be coloured?
Yes
How did you enable the battery % in the top right corner of the paperwhite 4?
Mine showed up after I charged it for the first time
search latest update. then you can see%
It just appeared after the kindle updated over night
And how about the voyage?
@@MrYura1234 The battery percentage displays automatically
as a new user do you recommend the new paper white ?
It is a bad product. Many problems with them, my become foggy and is not usable anymore. Second one, same. Back to books.
