I love the idea of stitching labels on the seams

Good morning! Really good information! So I took Home Ec back in the day. I suppose my first sewing class was in 7th grade, so 1972(yes waaaayyyy back in the day!). Have understood grain but this is the first time hearing an explanation about the arrow direction on the patterns. Just a simple help that would have been excellent to have been taught, rather than figuring out, trial and error. Yep, lots of errors!!😃. (Ask me about corderoy!)
Sewing isn't a quick process. Taking the time to enjoy the whole process is what makes us fanatics! There are parts of the process that I didn't know I would come to love, but here I am! Love to press! A crisp clean seam.......yes please!
    Have a fabulous today! Steph

Sewing is definitely not a quick process, I like to say that the better I sew - the slower I sew!😁 It takes time to get all those details right, but the joy of process is worth it🤗

Tip #5: You are so correct.
I'm top-heavy, and a full bust adjustment is Required in order for me to fit into a commercial pattern. That's the very skill I'm trying to master now, b/c I have an 8 inch difference between my chest measurement and full bust measurement. I feel all other adjustments will be easy, once I get my bodice fitting right.
I would definitely appreciate classes taught by you 🌼

Just made a blouse from commercial pattern & had to go down four sizes to make it fit, in spite of my measurements fitting first size!!! Toiles are imperative for me in everything I make until I get the pattern to fit me. I even made 2 toiles on this blouse. Saves my nice fabric. If you're in a hurry for a garment, go shopping :))

Oh wow, 4 sizes difference is really a lot! Really good you made toiles for this!

I wish that all of this was taught in my sewing class in Highschool. The one year of sewing in college had me doing better but not too much. The haute sewing techniques that I use are self taught. I consider what you presented to be basics for the beginner, however I'm well aware of the difference of opinion in America.
It really is nice to see your videos. I'm the only one in my area that sews clothes. Other just sew quilts. If I make a quilt it's because my scraps are bursting out of the closet. These kinds of videos are the closest that I can get to visiting and talking about sewing in person. Thank you.

For fine tuning tension the very best way is to use a embrodery stitch, one with loops is better. The stitch should look identical front and back, but if the tension is out one side will look odd and pinched.

Thank you for the tips. I have wide hips and lots of extra fabric on the bodice back. Basting the garment before sewing is imperative. Those 3 minutes that I spend basting, save me from having to rip out seams.👍🏼

My first sewing project was a pair of knit pajamas. It was the most frustrating experience because I did not know how to handle light knits. I was convinced there was something wrong with my machine which kept jamming and eating the fabric. I focused on trying to correct some machine issue and even considered purchasing a new machine. I was ready to give up on sewing. Knowing about stretch stitches, proper tension, elastic thread, proper needle, using paper and even spray starch and not starting right at the beginning of the fabric (without paper so the needle crams the fabric into the throat plate) would have made the world of difference. I made every mistake in the book. I wish I had discovered you sooner.

I can’t do a nice top stitch on my machine, the individual stitches are slanted, not straight. I don’t like it at all.
