Discussions stir the mind and heart

The Book of Ether is the story of how Ethiopians left Ethiopia, (the Garden of Eden according to Genesis 2:13) sailed down the Nile River to Egypt, then sailed the open ocean to Israel, then traveled back to the Isthmus of Suez and built up the Egyptian empire. The wars and destructions in the later chapters are wars happening in Egypt. This destruction is what Lehi sees in the Tree of Life Vision.
Lehi leaves Israel and makes his journey into Egypt. He cannot stay there because Egypt is dangerous for the righteous and he will be destroyed. The Tree of Life Vison commands he follow the Nile back to it's "head", the Tree of Life, The Garden of Eden in Ethiopia, the place the Jaredites started.
The Narrow Neck of Land in Ether 10:20 is the Isthmus of Suez.
The "Large and Spacious Buildings" Lehi sees in the Tree of Life Vision are built in Ether 10:5.
The wearing of fine linen Lehi sees in the vision is mentioned in Ether 10:24.
The "gentiles" that "mock" are discussed in Ether 12:23-26.
The Tree of Life vision shows Lehi the destruction in Egypt that you can read about in Ether. The destruction already happened and is described in greater detail in Ether.
The vision is also warning Lehi of the destruction that will eventually befall the Nephites in Egypt as well. This is made more clear by the angel in 1 Nephi 12 that specifically describes the destruction of the Nephites. The angel claims the destruction will happen on the same river Lehi saw in the vision. This is the Nile River in Egypt. The river the Jaredites used to journey North to Egypt and the river Lehi used to journey South to Ethiopia.
