  • Today we're doing an initial in-depth walk around of the Exmark Staris, new to the stand on market in 2019. We give our thoughts on the unit as we've racked up around 25 hours on it so far in the first 2 weeks we've had it, and share what we've liked and disliked!
    There have been so many questions from you guys about this Exmark Vantage replacement, so we had to share our experience so far. In full disclosure, this unit was provided to us from Exmark (very thankful!) but the deal was we get to share whatever we want, good bad or ugly! Thankfully, there hasn't been any ugly yet, but there was a few things we could nitpick, which we covered in the video.
    Curious to know your guys thoughts about the Exmark Staris, and if you've had a chance to demo one yet this summer. Are you guys considering upgrading if you have a Vantage? Let me know in the comment section down below!

I watch these videos and dream of owning the gear and starting my own landscaping business, then I realize gear and gear reviews is 1% of what landscaping actually is.

    Love the grassflap for a couple reasons,
    1. I feel 'safer' not removing my hands from the controls while moving
    2. It makes mowing seamless when near flower beds because you dont have to stop to move the OCD
    the ONLY bad thing ive heard or seen about the grassflap is that the cables go bad quickly, but that could just be incorrect installation, mine has around 80 hours on it and its still perfect!

    So I got this mower from my usual dealer that I have been with for 20 years, 48 inch with the mulch kit. have put 25 hrs on it so far. great mower, but it doesn"t do anything better or worse than any of my other great mowers, have had 4- 42 inch walker, a 61 inch bobcat, a 60 in xmark lazer and a couple lesco walk behinds. The only reason to get this or any stand on is to save space, period.
    I live in L.A. [lower Alabama] grass types, Bahia, St. augustine, burmuda, zoysia, but mostly centipede. Does great on all.
    forgot to add: it is definitely not boring, using this mower, as opposed to a rider where you are occasionally rocked to sleep :), so ok I guess that is 2 reasons to get a stand on.

    Hey Brian like all the videos very informative. I bought one had it since February. Started having trouble about the 25 hour range and been having TROUBLE ever since. First thing was issue you are having with the 3/4 inch hole and the deck falling. From there it went to the lever that you use to raise and lower the deck. The deck would come unlocked when roading it in between jobs. The main problem is when you want to raise the deck when you are done mowing sometimes it will NOT lock in place. You will pull the deck up numerous times before it locks in place. The machine has been at the shop 4 times to fix the problem. What a HEADACHE. Machine has about 85 hours on it. A completely new lever was installed on the mower and still the same thing occurs. At this point the shop has notified me it's ready for pick up again. That was a month ago I have not gone back to get it. I'm feeling a little like a test dummy.

  • @davidvasquez3564
    @davidvasquez3564 Před 5 lety +4

    I'm not crazy about that mower here's my reason:
    1- It will overheat in the summer months because all the components are tight in one place, for example, hy-dro over the engine sucking heat into the motor.
    2- That red cover over the belts and pullies traps the heat from the muffler which in turn will damage the belts in the long run and more heat to the motor that will contribute to shortening the life of the oil and grease degradation on the bearings.
    3- All those hard aluminum tubings too the hydro will eventually leak due to vibration, (no flexibility like the hoses). As you said the center of gravity is on the rear wheel, that means that when you stand on the platform it will cause a seesaw affect when mowing especially the heavy guy on uneven ground.
    4- Lastly, but I'm sure I can think of others, the Staris sounds like a Walt Disney production. LOL No thanks, I'll stick to my Ferris mower they are the boss. One more thing they are overpriced, not worth my time. Before you buy look for potential problems as mentioned above and decide for yourselves.

    My 100hr review. Staris E36:
    You have to adjust the deck spring tension to make the deck lever smooth and easy up and down. No cup holder. Though a bottle fits i the pad u shape area. Its heavy. There is enough room to stand and you really can make it wider without widening the machine but i needs to be wider. All that being said its a beast of a machine. Cuts and bags great has settled in first 50 hours was a gas hog. Its heavy cause its steel so she aint breaking. Kawasaki motors are legit and its fast. With only oil change at 100hrs hydro at 250hrs and 1 pump of grease every 50 hrs. Super low maintenance and

    I can say the exmark dealer has never given me issues with repair. When he had to repair a friends mower the exmark dealer didn't have a demo mower to give, so the dealer rented a mower out of his pocket for my friend to use for the extended repair that was needed
    Just the same I used to have Hustler mowers Also, I had a engine blow and the dealer broke a twenty thousand dollar diesel mower out of the crate so I wouldn't be down a mower. So good dealers are out there.

    Got 2 new Z3’s this March. 52/61”. Don’t get no better than them! Big HP, articulating front end (no one else has it.)
    Great cut quality, and priced right 👍 I understand your dealer support is everything, but I wouldn’t date the ugly girl next door either🤔

    exmark still using the bar on the wheel for the brake? might pick one up or a scag vride 2 at the ass end of the season. vantage would slide around in my enclosed trailer going down the street and id end up finding it facing the wall. ps my dealers suck so id happily drive to livonia ferris dealer or farmington weingartz before i ever step foot into the woodhaven exmark/scag dealer

    I got a snapper pro nearest dealer is 30 minutes. My local dealer sells Exmark and I wanted to purchase one it wasn’t in the budget so I got the 48” snapper pro walk behind for $5500 if I would have gotten the 48” Turf tracer it would have been $7700.I do buy everything else from my local dealer they give no deals they don’t have any competition near them. A they also have bad attitudes.

      Snapper Pro is basically a Ferris without the name and price tag. Same parent company and all. No shame in a Snapper Pro at all. You'll earn as much with it as with an exmark.

  • @WSG23
    @WSG23 Před 5 lety

    Yeah 37hp is not necessary for almost any mowing situation. 24-27hp is fine for most mowers and applications. Hydro pump strength, clutch and how they are engineered with the engine HP are the key...Good review.

      WSG You’re going to need a higher HP than 27 to pull yourself up hills or to effectively mow wet grass or any grass that’s more than a 7 day growth.

    I find this mower infuriating. The belt broke and I can't figure it how to get the new belt around the pulley below the engine. The engineering was terrible. There's no way to get the belt around the pulley without taking other things apart. I don't think I'll ever buy another exmark if their standards are this low. Commercial users especially need to be able to just slip another belt on. They can't be down long enough to disassemble the thing to do something as routine as changing a belt. Fail in my book.
