Shame this isn’t very popular. Nice work on the voice acting! This is my favorite short from the official Homestuck comics (not the fan fiction ones). The message in this comic and just the bonding between the dad and John is so beautiful.

I like the message of this dub and the voice acting. But I disagree to the amount of hate bro gets. Like I know he’s not the best parent but why do people make it look like he’s an abusive guardian? He’s not he clearly does care for Dave even if he doesn’t like to show it. Also yeah the apartment is full of child safety violations but Dave doesn’t tell him he wants change in the apartment.(not trying to say this is Dave’s fault.) and sure bro traumatized Dave with lil cal but .1 bro is Dave’s brother B R O T H E R don’t tell me that your older sibling hasn’t at least once pranked you like bro did with lil cal 2. Cal is clearly possessing bro to do some horrible stuff like the rooftop fight and 3, Once again Dave never said anything about cal to bro. My friend once said that a relationship is like dancing if both people dance it’s fine and it can work but if neither or only one person dances the dance won’t work. Another thing is that bro quite literally willingly gave up his life fighting so Dave had a few more seconds. What I’m trying to say is that yes bro should be more like a parent to Dave and less of a sibling but it isn’t intirely bros fault some of it is a haunted puppet some is how Dave doesn’t talk about his feelings and yes bro should fix things no child should have to live like how Dave does but bro isn’t an abusing father that puts Dave through that stuff on purpose
Bro does obviously care about Dave in his own way, but that doesn't mean he isn't abusive. Like you said, Cal is probably spurring him to do some pretty bad things, same as Cal did to Gamzee. Also, Dave arrived at Bro's house same as John did at his dad's, but Bro CHOSE to call himself a brother instead of a father, when biologically he is actually the father. He did that to put distance between them and to put less responsibility on himself to actually be a fully responsible guardian. He believes that testing Dave and making him live walking on eggshells will make him stronger and prepare him for the hardships in the future, but that's still an unpleasant kind of childhood, and probably not even helpful.
