    This phone is incredible. I traded in a flip 3 for the 5 and there is a night and day difference. The battery life is great for me. The 8 gen 2 for galaxy processor is fast and silky smooth. The cameras are good enough for me. The ui is great. The new large outer display gives the phone a new dimension. This is without a doubt the best phone that I've ever owned.

Also, are photos files big like in the iphones? I take a lot of pic and hate deleting from my phone but with an iphone it's like a couple of months only before the memory is full :/

      I had the 4 and now have the 5. I prefer the stiffness of the 4's hinge but the 5's hinge is sturdier when it comes to drops. I actually had to make a claim on my 4 like a week or 2 after I got it bc I dropped it from waist height on a hard floor and broke the hinge. I've dropped my 5 so many more times (with and without cases) and the hinge is fine. Also just from a design perspective, I think the 4 is nicer since you can see the pretty colors of the phone on the front and back of the phone when the phone is closed.
      One major issue tho that was only recently addressed was that the cover screen would turn off as soon as you opened the phone, and that meant you could not use it in "tent" mode. Not the biggest issue since the phone can stand up on a flat surface, but I like to use the cover screen for vids when I'm washing dishes and I ended up having to use the inner screen since the phone wasn't at eye level. Suuuuuuuuuuper small issue lol and they recently fixed it.

    A rear camera when folded is completely unnecessary while adding bulk, cost of manufacturing, complexity, reduced space for battery. It is absolutely not worth it. Just unfold the phone like any normal person and you will have a regular quality smartphone camera. If you cannot be bothered to unfold a folding phone and thinks that's too much of a process for taking pictures, then this phone is not meant for you.

      I usually have 1.5-2hr of screen time a day, and given some people who use them for work have 8+hr, I think light use should mean seriously 2-3hr tops of screen on, with maybe music running in the background with it locked or something. Or using it to watch an episode of something before bed in addition to the light daily use stuff. Anyone reaching 10-20% on a phone with a brand new battery is not using it lightly. I am using a Samsung Galaxy Note 9 which is almost 5 years old and it's tiem to upgrade to a newer Samsung. My faithful Galaxy Note 9 has an S-Pen, the functionality of a Secure Folder (where I store all my banking apps and sensitive notes) and most importantly an external Micro SD card slot. The intrinsic memory of my Galaxy Note 9 is just 128 GB but I use an external memory card that gives me an additional 786 GB of extra space.
    The Z Fold 5 and the Galaxy S23 Ultra both have a S-Pen (a discrete S-Pen in Z Fold 5 is the biggest disadvantage I think, mainly because I tend to misplace small things). Could you please tell me which phone, the Z Fold 5 and the Galaxy S23 Ultra has Secure Folder and a slot to accommodate an external Micro SD Card to enhance the storage capacity? Thanks so much!

    For the same everyday use my iPhone would have 30-40% battery at night and I almost never would charge it during the day.

      @hobbitpsi Před 8 měsíci +14

      That's weird. For mine, unless I'm playing games heavily on it, I'll go to bed with about 20% battery life. But then again. As it was with the original Flip, they didn't design it for heavy users. They designed the Flip series for people to not use their phone heavy, and basically use the outside display for checking notifications and stuff. It's also why with the first 3 Flips they highly suggested using a smart watch with it.

    Not gonna lie, Cameras are a big thing for me for phones, but luckily I had a chance to try the flip 5 out for a few days before getting one, and personally, I think the photos are pretty good. Not as good as the S-series cameras, but good enough. It honestly makes me think of a non pro iphone to be perfectly honest in terms of camera and pictures. The lack of telephoto is a bummer and sure when zooming it can get a little grainy, but for just point and shooting or taking videos, it's pretty damn good compared to the flip 4 and that's due to the 8 gen 2 and Samsung's processing. Needless to say, I ordered my flip 5 and it'll be here Monday. Like I said, thank god I was able to test it because it assured me that I actually wanted it.

      I had a Z flip 3 since the they first came out & I cannot imagine going back to a standard phone regardless of the camera quality, which is a sacrifice I'm willing to make since I'm not an avid photo taker & rely more on screen shots. The fact that it is so convenient & compact means I seldom have to carry it in my hand because it fits in every single pocket of my clothes. Also, not having to open the phone to take a call is incredibly convenient. I've had no issues with build quality & the software, battery life, sound quality & image qaulity are spot on. And there's no chance of making accidental calls when pulling the phone out of pockets or bags.

    Flip/fold/roll-out phones are a no-go for me, because the screens are still what i would consider a prototype state. All of the fold phones screens (and i would assume the roll-out screen concepts, too) will eventually fail, because the layers separate.
    When you take good care of a phone, there is almost no reason it cannot survive a decade in 100% pristine condition with only the battery to require replacement - but on folding phones ... no matter how much care you take (provided you actually use the phone) - it will likely fail in a relatively short timespan.

      Well see that's the problem with phones today. only a very small percentage of the public keep a phone for more than 2 years. The average person upgrades their phone either every 2 years or like me, every single year (every 6 months depending on what's out). Besides, if you're conscious about cyber security (which in this day and age you should), you wouldn't want the same phone for a decade, as they stop running security patches after about 4-5 years (6 I believe for apple). And security patches are the most important thing since it is very easy for a hacker to hack into a phone, especially those who connect to public wifi. As far as it being a prototype state. Not even. Unless they can make unbreakable thin glass, which is physically impossible then no. The screens we have is the finished product. Also what layers are you talking about? It's literally a single sheet of thin flexible glass that's sitting on a metal plate. The lifting that people report is the screen protector which is just a plastic film screen protector and that's easy to replace yourself. Been using the Fold and Flips for a while started with the 3's and then the 4's and none of them ever had any issues, but then again I'll admit I'm the type of person who is 100% always self conscious so have never in my life dropped a phone let alone had even a scratch or crack on any screen I've ever owned. Hell I always buy a case and screen protector days before I ever get a new phone just so I will have it protected the moment I remove it from the box.

    I know it's popular, but I don't think I can get onboard with this form factor. It just doesn't seem like it offers anything more than other non folding phones. At least with the the Z-Fole you're getting access to a bigger screen if you want/need it.

      I was on the fence about getting the Fold 5, but I've had the Fold 3 and Fold 4, and I absolutely hate how narrow the outside display is. I thought I could use it without care but everytime I would text or send messages I'd have a hard time typing and would constantly mess up. So basically I had to always open the phone up and use the inner display for messaging which annoyed the hell out of me. I probably won't ever touch the Fold again, unless they make that outer display wider like the Xiaomi foldable.

    Device was protected in a Samsung genuine case.

  • @andyH_England
    @andyH_England Před 8 měsíci

    I read that sales are not as anticipated although Samsung's expectations were always OTT. I suspect people are losing interest in paying so much for something that should be closer to $700. I did try it and my take was that opening and closing gets less fun and more a chore with daily use. The front display is too small for more than just widgets and I see why Samsung just did that now.
    We shall see how well it stands up with use, but I am confident it will be okay for most now Samsung switched from the old hinge design of the previous model which was flawed. It now uses a design all other flips moved to a while back. Even though Samsung was one of the first with flips and folds, they seem to be playing catchup and it is worrying that they are holding back rather than giving the best to their fans. I would not recommend it as at this price there are so many better more complete phones than the Flip5 and that is before I go into the many negatives including no zoom camera, terrible thermals, subpar battery life, only 1080p display, and rather uninspiring design. Easy pass.

    • @hobbitpsi
      @hobbitpsi Před 8 měsíci +1

      Opening and closing became a chore? you must be young and never had to use flip phones of old lol. For us who lived the days of old flip phones, the flipping was the best part. Especially with this one. Actually with all the Flip series, I open and close it with one hand like the flip phones of old and I love it.
      As far as the hinge. Well yeh, they were trying to keep the cost down with the hinge. Now since they have a patent on the flexible glass that all the other brands use now, they are getting extra money and more than likely orders from these companies for the inside screens. Look at motorola. Their old phones were literally a plastic display, now with the razr+ it's actual glass. Wonder where they got that from... It's not uncommon for brands to give each other parts and ideas, everyone does it. Hell even Apple gets parts from Samsung and Sony and vice versa.
      To your last bit: Thermals isn't an issue, it doesn't get hot, if yours does then you're doing way too much which the Flip was designed previously to now to be a light user's device. Same goes for battery, Mine end the day before bed at 20%. The no zoom, you have a point. That is a negative, but it's understandable why they are a bit restricted in space. Far as the design goes....dude the only other flippable phone that's like it is the razr+ and sure the razr has a bigger screen, but still...they're the only two using that design...even the other brands with flips still have small displays, even Oppo, sure their display can do a lot, but it's still a small display.

    • @hobbitpsi
      @hobbitpsi Před 8 měsíci +1

      Actually it's not that heavy. It feel pretty light and comfortable to hold. Screen is pretty bight and easily seen outside in the sun. Camera is.... well it's basically like a non pro iphone tbh. Not bad but not the best. But tbh, the flip phones, and not just from samsung, were not designed for heavy users. The idea when the original Flip came out was to separate people from being on their phone constantly. It's why they made the Fold as well as the Flip. basically you wanna heavy use and be on it constantly on a foldable, get a Fold. You wanna enjoy life and not have your nose stuck in a phone screen all the time, get a Flip.

But times have changed bro, people don't like plastic phones anymore, far as alluminum goes...eh they're good but also gotta remember that alluminum dents easily, and too many people are prone to dropping their phone for some reason.
