I went to a Rammstein concert in the middle of winter when it'd snowed that particular day - most of the crowd that were lining up outside, in the freezing cold, looked like they were dressed for summer, because we all knew that once we got inside and Rammstein started up, it'd be hot as hell. I was in the first few rows and I was drench in sweat - my hair was soaking, my makeup melted, my eyebrows were in danger of being singed. It was awesome.

The Till Hammer as it is known, was actually not a "move" in the first place. Early in the bands carreer Till (singer) had suffered some some knee injuries, and had had many surgeries at the time. During some concerts he would stand in a bad way, and his kneecap would hop out of place. He then smacked it a few times to get it back into place. After some time, Rammsteins manager told him to do it more, as it looked great, and so it came into existance.

Till Lindemann (the Singer), used to be on a short list to the 1980 Olympics (for East Germany), but he never got there, and he have kept himself in shape ever since.
Till is also a licensed pyrotechnician, and does all the pyro himself.
"An incident in September 1996 caused a section of the band's set to burn, and as a result, Lindemann got his certification in pyrotechnics so the band could perform with pyrotechnics more safely than it had previously"
The reason why Flake (the guy on the keyboard) is on a treadmill, is actually quite simple, he have so much energy, that he can't stand still, and because of all the fireworks he for obvious reasons can't run randomly around the Stage.
The real reason why the members looks dirty is because of anti flammable gel, because of safety reasons, and some of the powder residue sticks to the gel, making them look dirty.
I'm not certain about this, but I have read several times, that Till does have some stage fright, so he often picks a point over the crowd that he focus on, instead of looking directly into the crowd.
I hope this answers some of your questions.
I would like you to react to Rammstein - Ich Will (live at hurricane festival) remember subtitles
Another one could be Rammstein - Engel from Madison Square Garden.

Flake (the keybord player) has written a book, the "dirt" is instant coffee with water, even that he couldn't sleep because the coffeine was absorbed by the body through the skin. He tried decoffeinated coffee, but it doesn't work as well.

The lead singer is Till Lindeman, I work for them awhile as an electrician., This crowd numbers about 60,000. Till dislocated his knee in one show and while still playing he was trying to beat it back into place. one of the promoters saw this and said it looked so cool, thus the Till Hammer became. As for the lightening from the keyboard is real, no post production. My roll as electrical engineer was to make sure Flake was not fried by the Tesla coil that provides the lightening. As for the treadmill, it powers the Tesla coil.

If you look really close you will see the ball for the coil in the upper part of the stage. Watch his fingers, they are in sync with the lightening, you cannot do that perfect in post production. It took us 2 hours to get the set up just right.

Rammstein makes a play on words with the title. "Du hast = You have" "Du hasst = You hate"

      @jacobusderottmann1000 Před 3 lety +4

Thank You. And the point of that is, this is a relationshit song.
He is about to married. He is committed - "You have" (me)
And standing at the altar, he realizes this woman does not love him, she is hateful and just wants to control him.
      "You hate" (me)
He is asked, Do you take this woman -
And freezes for moment - then -
"Nein! Nein! NEIN!!" (Do I need to even translate that?)
      And runs like hell.
      Smart man.
      Maybe everybody already knows this.
But considering the reaction discussion didn't really touch on the lyrics and meaning at all, I had to say it.
      Had to.

They actually ran a high voltage throught that wire, although I am not positive if that wire was not some kind of Wolfram / Copper / Magnesium mixture. As for the fire effect on stage, Rammstein worked the shit out of the pyro technique and you are right, they do not look *greesy* by chance, thats a protective gel. . Despite his appearance, all the members of the band are quiet and even reserved men, Till had stage fright because before he was the singer of Rammstein he was a drummer, to focus on stage fright he adapted the pyrotechnics to the show until he became one of the hallmarks. If you dare to react to more Rammstein videos, I recommend the official videos as they are excellent and have their respective making of just as interesting, greetings from Mexico.

Thx. It's ignorant to not combine the fact, that the treadmill makes the
keyboard player NOT grounded, and that the Tesla effect is common knowledge,
So nobody is in any danger as the lightning from his fingers are REAL.
Only in the US, the culture is, that everything is fake and post production. Peace.

  • @FlatulentBreeze
    @FlatulentBreeze Před 3 lety +1

I read the lightning is real, they have a Tesla Coil above the stage. I'm assuming the keyboard player is protected because he's still alive. I've also heard he liked to walk around during the shows and got burned a few times from the pyro stuff, so they gave him a treadmill so he could walk in a safe space. Of course Till is a pyro tech as a few have written, and I'm thinking a damn good one.

Some suggestions for more Rammstein reactions:
    1. Engel, live in Paris
This is a real piece of performance art, with a lot of fire and explosions. Till shows more of his bamf behaviour. He never leaves caracter while a lot is going on around him.
    2. Wiener Blut, live from Wacken Festival in Germany
Hard and heavy song, really dark topic. Do yourself and us a favour and learn about the true case the song is about, before you react to it. This video shows off good music and is not so much about stunning effects.
    3. Wollt ihr das Bett in Flammen sehen, live in Paris
Rather repetive and simple but heavy song. Great fire effects around Till that play in tune with the music.
    4. Bück dich, live in Montreal
By far their most controversial and shocking "show". Not somehting you want to watch with your kids though. Might be disturbing for some - others get the joke and find it funny. This performance is the reason why Rammstein can no longer just entry the united stades without "special treatment" by border patrol.
If you want to see some special effect, here is a list (spoiler alert):
Falmethrowers strapped to their guitars: Links 2 3 4 Live at Rock Werchter 2016
Flamethrowers strapped to their mouth: Feuer Frei! live at Download Festival 2013
Till setting a guy on fire: Benzin, live at Madison Square Garden
Largest flames ever in a show: Sonne, live in St. Petersburg

There is actually a song in which they say that they are a bit songless, tuneless but one can hear them anyway.
I think Till took singing lessons when he was already older than 35 years. Even if you have talent, I believe that you have to train when you are a kid to become a really great singer or musican. I love them anyway for their message, the dark and pure poetry in some cases, the creativity and the performance. In addition, I do understand the lyrics, and they pull my emotions to a very dark place, but after listening I feel better, like catharsis of ancient greek theater 🎭.

Didn't expect the man, the myth, the legend Henry Rollins to be mentioned haha. Also you're right about the electricity. Only way you could do it was like you said, a tesla coil, and you'd need a full chain mail outfit. And you wouldn't be able to have anything else near it.

  • @music2seeconcertphotograph457

Here are some suggestions for more mind blowing Rammstein performances:
"Sonne" (Live at Download Festival 2016) --> Hot as the name giving sun (Sonne = Sun)
"Ich tu Dir weh" (Hurricane Festival / Rammstein Official) --> Great singing and insane stage action towards the end)
„Willst Du das Bett in Flammen Sehn" (Paris Version) --> Pyro Fashion, power, everything that Rammstein stands for
"Benzin" (Madison Square Garden) --> Benzin = Gasoline --> burns well. And maybe also a man?
There are of course a lot more insane live videos of them: "Links 2,3,4", Engel, "Mann gegen Mann", "Mutter", "Feuer Frei", "Ich will", ... Have fun and rock on!
Paris is more a concert movie with post production and released as Directors Cut“.
You have to be aware that here a German band is playing in Paris / New York and the French / American audience is singing along in German. Music can unite! :-)

My understanding (although I've never been to one of their concerts live... yet) is that the lightning indeed is real, and that they are using a tesla coil to create it. Not an expert though, but when trying to look it up a long time ago that's the information that I got.

In my experience, the only show that came close to the visual performance of Rammstein concerts (i saw them live twice) was The Wall Live tour by Roger Waters. Let me emphasize that I'm only comparing the visual performance in this comment - comparing anything else seems nonsense because they don't belong in the same musical realm.

  • @catroinavanalstyne3559

I agree the “lightning” is not real now. Otherwise the keyboard would’ve blown up and the show would probably be over. I asked my dad to watch it, and HE says it’s not real. He’s an electrician. He would know. Doesn’t matter, the song still kicks butt!

    Rammstein's members are:
    Vocalist: Till Lindemann
    Lead Guitarist: Richard Z. Kruspe
    Rhythm Guitarist: Paul Landers
    Bassist: Oliver "Ollie' Riedel
    Drums: Christoph "Doom" Schneider
Keyboardist: Christian "Flake" Lorenz (pronounced Flak-eh)

TBH, we've almost certainly seen it. Many, many times, in most cases.
    .
You are correct - everything you are seeing is really happening and fully visible to the audience, EXCEPT Flake's lightning fingers. But other than that, all the pyros are real, not to mention designed and built by Til (the singer).
    .
If there's one thing you learn quickly as a member of Rammstein, if Til tells you where to stand, STAND THERE AND DON'T MOVE. Well, unless you don't want your hair.
    .
The bridge gave him time to grab the cannon. Look at Feuer Frei. The bridge gives him time to strap flamethrowers to the guitarist and bassist's FACES!
