    Fantastic footage thank you. I've been researching the watch / control tower (demolished 1960) at RAF Beaulieu in the New Forest, UK, and videos like this help bring to life what "could have been" - thank you.

    Very nice footage. I grew up a few miles from this base. Pleased that you have an interest in sharing this important history with all of us.

    Recently met Captain (Retired and 92 yrs.young) Henry 'Hank' Darlington, pilot of a B-17 stationed at Podington during July 1944 'til February 1945. He sent me his Military Career History. Fascinating story which reads like a novel.

    This is Davidstow airfield and that is the control tower. It’s still there but the very top part on the roof has gone and the metal steps have been removed but areal footage shows the screw holes for the room on top and the panel on the floor that connected to the steps is still there. We will include it in our next video to compare so you can see

      It is there is a 3d picture of davidstow control tower its exactly the same structure steps and view as this control tower. Also the abandoned original control tower still at davidstow has a roof platform on the side where steps would have been to the balcony and all the windows and doors are in exactly the same place as in this video also the glass roof structure has been removed but there is wires and drill points on the roof where it was.. even more the view of tree line from this watch tower is exactly the same as the view of treeline of davidstow woods from the control tower on the airlfield. Even the wind flag is still there in the same place

      @@firstcontacttv7492 Yes thats the same crash, but that video is wrong. If you look up davidstow airfield on google images you cant see that shape but you can in podington. My guess is the creator of that video got it wrong. That crash location is now the starting point of the Santapod drag strip.

    Its a shame that USAF control tower and center could not have been preserved to show how brave these B17 pilots and crews took off and some made it back and many did not. This is on the British for not taking into consideration the great sacrifices that were made by American Pilots and crews. SHAME!

    • @hermanripps3692
      @hermanripps3692 Před 2 lety +1

      Think of all the Brass, Americans Brits and the Queen and Prime Minister Winston Churchill him self viewed action from inside that tower. Shame again.

      Many airfields in Britain have in recent years been destroyed by a government-owned cartel of 'property developers' cashing in on the selling off of crown property, which includes many airbases. West Malling, Binbrook, Coltishall among them.
      Some have been re-used by farmers, as they were only temporarily leased land.
      A number of airfields have been preserved, notably Upottery (now called Smeatharpe after the location where it is situated), where the guys you see in Band of Brothers flew from during D-Day.
      Some WWII airfields are still in use, such as Duxford (which has a large museum and memorial to the USAF that flew from Britain during WWII, it's worth looking up, and worth visiting), and still have many of their original buildings.
      Some even older airfields are still in existence, such as Northolt, which was built for the defence of Britain against the Zepellin attacks during WWI, was a WWII airfield where Polish squadrons flew from during WWII, and was recently almost completely destroyed and re-built in a cheap modern style by the above-mentioned government-owned cartel of developers.

      It’s not like it’s only the US stuff that is now gone, there are hundred of bases all over the UK that now don’t exist. It would be crazy to preserve every single one. The would doesn’t revolve around the US
