If you don't guide your kids in the right direction (atleast what the parent thinks is the right direction) there are always external influences from school, friends, etc to the child which can cause more harm than good. Classic example is the wokeism/LGBTQ agenda in the America these days. Ramayana/Mahabharata are one of the best way to guide a child by the principles of life.

य: स सर्वेषु भूतेषु नश्यत्सु न विनश्यति ||8.20
ममैवांशो जीवलोके जीवभूत: सनातन: |
मन:षष्ठानीन्द्रियाणि प्रकृतिस्थानि कर्षति || (15.7) -
'all' the beings are his ansh or part of it !
That Tattva or the Brahma and also the अव्यय बीज - (the one which cannot be changed)these are all what is Sanatan! Sanatan is not a dharma, but indeed the description of that tattva on which each and every thing and each and every being thrives!
