Sir I don't know if you're still with us here on earth if so , thank you very much. I am a single homeowner and use CZcams to help me in my tile laying adventure. These phones are psychic because I am in the grouting stage and you popped up on my algorithm.. 👍👍
I'm still on this side of the grass. TNX for asking. Click that *Thanks* text link under the video to help support my channel.
This us the first time that I viewed your video(s). My husband and I just tiled out bathroom floor for the first time. Your Grout video not only makes total sense- but you showed me the reason that the "pro's" messed our kitchen floor up. There is a 1/8" depression in the grout lines in my kitchen floor. 3 months after the kitchen floor was put in- the grout began to chip and crack.
Now that You have shown me the proper way- my husband and I can tackle recruiting the kitchen too.
Thank you!
His enthusiasm and excitement is intoxicating.
When you start to grout, you'll see why! It's better than drugs.
Tim, your video really has helped us out. There is nothing like actually seeing an expert do the work. Your videos are worth a thousand books!
Hello there! i just have to say THANK YOU! I'm from Guadalajara Mexico and all your videos, tecniques, tips, what you share, as been very helpfull to me. Man, Tim, your home improvement videos are epic! You make all those daunting tasks seem so easy when you show us how to do it. I remember now why I am such a big fan of your videos.
Take care,
Greg
thats all it takes is log on to internet and ask and learn how to do it yourself, instead of paying some idiots arm and a leg for a job you can do your self...thanx for taking your time and explaning everything in details! i just saved my self ton of going back and fixing mistakes .
Wow, thanks. This was a huge help! I just finished grouting my first floor. I really didn't have a clue how to do it, but it came out beautiful thanks to your videos. On a side note, instead of ceramic tiles, I used vinyl tiles that be set with grout. They honestly look like ceramics, but aren't as cold as ceramic tiles. The room I put them in sits on a concrete slab so thats important. They were very easy to cut, probably much more so than a ceramic. Got them at Menard's. Thanks again!!
Thanks very much for these videos. It's been 5 years since I last tiled, and I was in need of a refresher. Your series of videos are a fantastic tutorial.
thanks again!
Chris
@AsktheBuilder The tiles I laid and grouted are around a new corner fireplace that I built in the dining room. The total corner unit is not yet finished. However, when I complete the unit and paint the dining room, I will try sending a video response. Thanks again for your valuable guidence and tips!
Thanks for your instructions and tips. With your guidance, I laid and grouted my tiles...and they look great!! Thanks again!
Thanks! You should watch the entire series!
I love how you explain everything so perfectly because every time i click to see one of these videos i have this preconceived notion that i know how to do it....turns out you make a point in saying that my ideas of how to do it are wrong! haha thank you so much!
Thanks for these great videos. My husband laid our bathroom tile and then left to go out of town the next day. I was left to clean up and grout and I think I"m ready after watching your videos. I'll let ya know how it goes.
Thanks! Pass the good word to all that this video is here. I need traffic to the videos to make it worthwhile to invest the time producing them.
Simple and efficient .Best I've seen out of all the tutorials on grouting. Thanks

The thinset must be dried, and preferably, cured. The tiles are very tender and susceptible to movement without dried grout locking them in place. When grouting you must be very careful about twisting your knees. The tiles can handle compressive pressure from above, but twisting motion can rip them lose from the thinset.
You're welcome. I'm starting to do LIVE teaching on PowHow. Many new classes this fall and winter! You should sign up for my AsktheBuilder newsletter at my AsktheBuilder website so you are aware of every new class.

You are a really good teacher. Thanks for the video.
TNX as we say in Morse code.
You're most welcome. Videos #3 and 4 are private because I have bills to pay. :-> If you want really high-quality information you can trust, you just have to pay for it. Or, you can troll around trying to find it. That was a good question by the way.
Not a problem at all, I will be finishing up today and I will be sure to take some pictures. The only problem now is my floor looks so good that my old cabinets look terrible, seems like the home improvements are never ending :]
thanks for the video, finishing my first tile job and this method worked great.
you just helped a 22 year old tile his whole house, and it looks great.
@wake4wake You're most welcome. You can help me by telling as many as you can about them. I have to have lots of views to make it worthwhile to do them.
great video and great tips. I'm going to be tiling my bathrooms very soon so the timing of this is perfect. thanks! and 5 stars!
This video was exactly what I was looking for
Glad I could help. Be sure to start watching my LIVE streams M-F 4 PM Eastern time. That said, I'll only be on next M-W because of the upcoming Christmas madness! Back to normal on Jan 3rd.
There is a risk to a small degree. I would mix no more than a gallon at a time. Use COLD water to slow down the hardening of the grout in the bucket. That will extend the work time for you. Your BEST strategy, since you're a grasshopper, is to go spend $50 on some scrap tile and glue this to a piece of underlayment that you lay down on your garage floor. Grout it for practice to see how much you can handle at a time.
This was the best tutorial! Always aks someone who does this regulary.......the builder knows best! Cheers!

Very clearly showing, thank you for video
I just tiles on top of lino floor today...looking awesome
Tim kind of reminds me of Ralphy from " A Christmas Story". Tim, You do very nice work, Thank you!!!!!
It's pretty tough to get sanded grout smooth as the tile glaze. Just use oxygen bleach each week when you clean to sanitize the grout and tile. Get it at the StainSolver website.
@kittinplus4 You're welcome. This video series is coming down this weekend. Well, the last two videos at least. I'm not giving away all the information about how to do stuff for free any longer. This *free* model is not working at all. There's no money in it. You lucked out. There is going to be a fantastic series showing how to install tile on a wall, backsplash, etc. But you'll pay to see it.
Great video and some great tips. If you look around CZcams everyone does it differently. But your tips and follow-up explanation make good sense. Thanks for taking the time to make and present this video as it will go a long way in helping others. Well done!
Correct Mike! That's why I say it in the beginning, "....there's all kind of different ways to grout floor tile ...." As for technique, you bet there are different styles. But the one thing that's constant is the water. Too much water at any step of the process and your grout will not be as strong as it could be. Thanks for your kind words.
Its great to see old timers do a clean job

tim i've never done grout before. i would have tried to feed the grout between the tiles with an icing bag, or something of the sort.
All grout aside this tile job is really good!

For the first time I have put a natural stone backsplash in my kitchen. ( I have never laid tile before) . i have a pre mixed grout. I have a trowel I have patients. Do you have a video about grouting that?
Glad I watched this before I started! Thank you!

I do. My favorite pads were 1,000 miles away when we taped this video.
What about upright corners in a walk-in shower? How do you fill in the corner and spread the grout on the tile?
With great skill. I'm happy to coach you over the phone. shop.askthebuilder.com/15-minute-phone-or-video-conversation-with-tim/

Hi think you for your informative and wonderful video. I have a question..my condo bathtub had a ceramic tile flooring and now everytime someone is taking a shower water is leaking into someone else apartment below. I thought the water drain pipe is leaking and after did some leaking test it was not it. The leaked is on the around the drain pipe exterior through cement. I wonder if you can give me some of your expert advise on how to correct this leak problem before install the new tiles.

Thanks! Some things are indeed hard to do. But grouting is not one of them. You just need to know some of the secret tips I've discovered over the years. That's what I try to share.
after the grout has dried does that provides a smooth finish like the ceramic itself if not how that smooth can be achieved since it is required for hygiene while cleaning the floor i guss by covering the joints by some kind of shiney adhesive coating or varnish or ay other material for purpose can it be done
Nice tips. How to easily change the color or remove the grout? Thanks
I have a few columns at my AsktheBuilder.com website that show you exactly how to change grout color. Use my search engine once there.
Its possible that your floor "flexes" a bit when weight is applied (people walking).
@mun268 Dear Mun268, Did you read my Comment Policy on my main channel page? If not, I highly recommend you do so. It will absolutely make sense to you then.
nice lesson
Thank you for your tutorial. Good job! Like.
I have them and we didn't get them out to shoot this short video series.
Hello Tim,
I wanted to ask, what is the best method to make the grout lines come out straight with no smears noticeable in the tile..Is there a tool to use to remove the excess grout from the grooves in between the tiles? besides using the sponge?
thank you
best wishes
Hi Is there any fast and right way to remove the existing basement tiles?
Thanks for the great video to help me learn. Why are videos #3 & 4 marked private?
great info. on walls top to bottom or bottom to top ?
Do you treat sanded grout any different than the other grout?
Good advice...
TNX. Be sure to sign up for my FREE newsletter at www.AsktheBuilder.com
can you strike @ an angle with the rubber float on the edges near the wall too?
Let us know how it came out!!
Great video!
It would help if you labeled the videos in their title with "Part 2 of 4" so that we can see they are part of a series and where we are in the series...
This is so useful
Awesome and simple, Love it!
Ok I watched first two videos on grouting, but it is impossible to find videos 2 and 3 on you tube, The instructions you give to access videos 3 and 4 take me to a site where I have to pay for those videos. Is that your intention, to have free access to 1 and 2 and pay for 3 and 4? That is ok if that is what you intended , however, you should have plainly stated that so we don't waste our time trying to find 3 and 4 on You Tube, btw 1 and 2 are good
Recommendations for brand of grout!?
Sure. The most expensive one you can get. More $$$ = better quality.
well done
Hello Sir, I have a question it seems you are smart to know it. The tiles of my upper master bedroom pop out. My brother took the tiles out and the fillings or grout then we found out underneat the filling which is the first pouring of cement was craked. Do you have any idea how to fix the crack? Is EPOXY will hold it together or will be enough to fix it? Thank you so much Sir. God bless and more power to your channel.
Yes. I have crack-repair columns on my website. Read all of them. Get unlimited tips each week in my FREE newsletter. Subscribe at www.AsktheBuilder.com
Hi Mr. Carter:
I know you are filtering comments. I,m doing it for some of my videos too. But if you are filtering off all of negatives or ironical comments, all comments left look too much sugar coated and don't look natural. Also, I think, people are thankful too much. It is possible that people can think that all comments was set up artificially. I have nothing against you, just friendly advice. Leave couple of negatives and then give an appropriate respond. You can start with this one.
Thanks dude!!
thank you for this. I love the tips.

@gardogg65 I believe they are labeled that way.... inside the video.
That's fantastic! Can you go to my AsktheBuilder website? Please upload some photos of the job at my Ask Tim page! I'd LOVE to share them. Also, I'm starting to teach how to do this LIVE on camera at PowHow. Classes for all sorts of things start this fall.
I've notice that your videos don't yet explain how to clean the spaces between the tiles before the grout. Do you gave any advice on tile the has been sitting for months with out grouting and has some scum built up?
Soap, water, scrub brush. Nothing about this is hard. It's an exercise in common sense. GL as we say in Morse.
Excellent! Thanks.
This is epic! Thanks for this
Good instruction

@Scotmanly Tape a video! Show us the final product. Send to me as a video response. Be sure in the video you mention you used my tips for your video to make sense. Thanks!
Damn. I wish this guy worked with me during my years as a dirtbag. All I had for co-worker's we're alcoholics and....well alcoholics.
Uh, maybe *you* would have been one of my subs, not me working for you. Think about that...
@Baseball7174 You can do it! We'd love to see a video on your channel once done. I'll make it a video response if you alert me.
Hi sir how can we fix the floor tiles with uneven heights.
If they're already installed you have two choices:
1. Remove and start over
2. Invite over a bunch of wizards like me and we cast a protective spell on the tile
Is there a pre mixed grout?
Yes there is. Just add water. For unlimited tips like this video, subscribe to my FREE newsletter at www.AsktheBuilder.com
