      100% Fact. I was late to it, I didn't even play Super Metroid until 2021!!! Probably the best video game I've ever played, I put in 30 hours plus on my SNES mini. Looking to play Fusion, Zero Mission and the Prime series next before Samus returns and Dread.

    This video strikes me in my nostalgic core... Metroid carries the most potent feelings of childhood innocence for me. It was the 3rd game I got after the SMB pack-in and Zelda. and Super Metroid happens to be my absolute all-time favorite game. I can't even count how many times I've played it to completion. Thanks guys for bringing back those memories.

    Metroid and Zelda are my co-favorite games of all time. I remember beating Metroid with the original square controller and being so happy with myself! God such memories... I remember during the run-up to the Mother Brain, how those Zeebetite (?) tube things would keep regenerating and growing back and those little random fire rings that would bump you off the platforms... at the end... so frustrating.. When I finally finally got it done, it was such an awesome feeling.
    Metroid was the first real game I purchased. I had the original set that had the gray gun, ROB the robot, Duck Hunt and Gyromite. No Super Mario Bros! So after killing all the ducks I could and getting fed up instantly with Gyromite, I picked up Metroid. I played the HELL out of this game. It was so good.
    This was a great nostalgic episode, guys. Thank you so much for the memories!

    Super Metroid passed me by in the 90s, but now years after buying a SNES Classic, I've finally got round to it this past 2 weeks and finished it. Amazing game, crazy how it's taken me so long to experience it. It's got that similar sense of adventure that Zelda has, but in a completely different setting and style.

    I played through Metroid for the first time on the NES Classic a couple of years ago and I have to say I don’t think I’ve ever died as much in a video game as I did trying to beat Mother Brain in that final room with shit flying at you knocking you off the platform non stop. If it wasn’t for save states I would’nt of ever finished the game

    I got Metroid and a NES for Christmas in 87 and I do have to say that was one of my favorite Christmases and Metroid is solely responsible for my video game addiction to this day lol. My parents wouldn't let me hook it up until after we were all done opening presents so once I did I played it from about 2 in the afternoon until 6 the next morning. I love that game and always wished they would of made a few more for the NES and would of loved one or two on the N64. My next favorite Christmas would be 91 when we got a SNES and I got Final Fantasy II which became one of my all time favorite games. Great memories!!

      *****: Zero Mission is a remake of the original Metroid, with improved graphics and extended story; it is Samus re-telling the story of her first ever mission and how she went from having a relatively nice suit of armour to an awesome power suit that turned her into the one woman army she is today. I wish they would re-make Metroid 2 and 3 as well :(

    The first Metroid is the pinnacle of gaming in my eyes. That game was so totally revolutionary in many ways. One of the best parts about the Metroid series is the phenomenal music. The first time I experienced Metroid was at a friends house and I was immediately transfixed by the haunting music and atmosphere. The original Metroid would have to be my favorite game of all time and I'm an old 37 so I've played A LOT of games.

    One of the most impressive moments of Metroid - for me personally - was the closing credits sequence displayed at the end of the game. It was like I had just finished watching a good movie.
    I know it sounds ridiculous, but this totally amazed me back in the day. I was graduating from the likes of the Atari 2600 at the time, and it was the first time I'd seen such a thing in a video game.

    Super Metroid is most definitely #1 SNES game. It's the bomb diggity. Absurd pixel art & animation, atmosphere, replayability, controls & even glitches.
    Edit: I'm with you, Johnny! I never understood Metroid / back-tracking games (Zelda included, although I liked playing the original, I would aimlessly wander) until a friend played Super Metroid in its entirety & it clicked! Same story with Ocarina, my friend took a deku branch, lit it in the fire & approached the web to open a path -- it all suddenly made sense! Growing up on hardcore platformers/fighting games/brawlers, left to right progression, it was a different world. I remember thinking "what's up with these blue/pink squares? Why can't I continue right? Door's locked? Hahaha.

    • @nicb.1411
      @nicb.1411 Před 9 lety +3

      nuketowncity I agree! Honestly Metroid has potential to be greater than Halo if they make it a little more mature. Star Fox can be the Sci-Fi character for kids and Metroid for the adults. But Nintendo's head is still stuck in the past so it might be awhile before we get something like that.

    • @inamoratasamazing
      @inamoratasamazing Před 9 lety +5

      Nic B. The problem is it doesn't exactly have a fanbase over in Japan, and they inexplicably base their decisions to make and port games off to the west based on the sales in Japan. Not to mention that sadly Metoid's creator and the director of the games before Prime passed away in a car accident...
      At least there's the fan remake of Metroid 2 Return of Samus that was for the Gameboy. It's coming along well and looks fucking amazing so far. Based on the demo it's going to be the best 2D sidescrolling game to come out in years.

    As soon as I stepped into her room, I noticed two things: 1) I was the only guy there; 2) There were games.

    Inside the boxes of some Nintendo games was a card that you could fill out and send in. I remember getting some posters and what turned out to be a subscription to the Nintendo Fun Club. All that was free but eventually Fun Club became Nintendo Power and they started to charge money. They gave us the first issue for free and maybe some others but I quickly subscribed to the whole magazine. Every year when it was time to renew your subscription the’d give us a free gift. One year I got a Dragon Quest game with a poster, map and strategy guide. That “gift” was probably worth more than the whole magazine subscription. If you didn’t have Nintendo Power, I have to wonder why not? It wasn’t all that expensive. Cheaper than a new game and basically mandatory if you wanted to be up to date on Nintendo.

I didn't have any published maps or guidebooks, so I drew my own simple maps on graph paper as I went through the game. Beating the game became like an obsessive project for me!

      what he said about tackling it as an action game is something I relate to. I didn't think about it at the time but I just kept pushing forward, and fast. So the going up and not really having a destination, and not having dialogue or anything, it was all so discouraging or dispiriting.
      BUT SUPER METROID WAS AWESOME. Maybe it was how visually cool it was or the music but I just loved playing it. Maybe cause it was easier to tell the sections too.
      Metroid is a franchise I feel I love only because of Super Metroid. Fusion was kinda just average, and I didn't play zero. I can tell that Prime is visually impressive, and usually the intro track is interesting but after that I usually can't remmeber the music or pay attention. I mean here and there I do. But I couldn't get all that used to it or excited after I bought it. Even with all the script from the descriptions. It's cool for the animals but for all the file reading, it's overdone.
      I thought I wanted something slightly like Other M but everything about that seems wrong I didn't even bother. Y'know there were a lot of hard sci fi anime around that time so I don't get why it's been difficult to give Metroid slightly more story. Not in terms of plot but in terms of being less objective and moving the player.

    You definatly need to do a Metroid Series review, the whole thing spin offs and remakes included.

    I remember playing Metroid on the NES and man oh man... that game was hard. The first Metroid game I beat was Metroid II: Return of Samus on the Gameboy. But my favorite Metroid game in the series has to be Super Metroid on the SNES. Loved every part of the game and the final boss battle and getting back to your ship... I was on the edge of my seat.

    My first experience playing metroid was Two on the gameboy. The music for that game was so awesome for the gameboy age. I was about eleven years old when I beat that game. It was my first game I had ever finished and I did it without even looking up any guide and no help.

    I actually started with Super Metroid, being that we didn't have a huge library for our NES. I remeber being blown away by the atmosphere of this game alone, and then being totally enveloped by the gameplay. I'd barrowed it from a friend and was constently calling him and asking him where the hell I was supposed to go, haha.

    Super Metroid was the 2nd game i ever owned, and it was an awesome experience.i spent days playing this as a kid! the music is quite simply among the best there is on the SNES.oh,and it was also my first metroid game.i never played the original myself, but did see others play it.
    the world map in the guide book looks awesome too! the music that plays when you land on Zebes(crateria overworld) is my favorite if not 2nd fave.the sound effects just add to the experience so much(thunder etc).

    Metroid is my favorite Nintendo franchise, period. I have the "puzzle solved" sound bite from the Prime Trilogy for my text ringtone.

    I remember being a kid back when Metroid came out, the only way i knew about Justin Bailey was word of mouth, a friend told me.
    Actually it was my friend who had EVERY Nintendo Power and nearly ever game you could think of. He was the equiv of Andrew but his name was J.J, Justin Hancock. I remember in 2nd grade he'd bring 5 snacks to school... i had to chew on my pencil.

I had a friend staying over and I came home form the video store I had rented Metroid for NES, MAN I WAS HOOKED right form the start! So much so, my friend and I took turns but eventually he fell asleep, I kept playing and finished the entire game, I could not stop until it was completed lol!

    I have never played the original Metroid. The first one I played was Metroid 2 on the Game Boy back when it first came out. I have a lot of good memories from childhood playing Super Metroid and am finally getting around to beating it this day in age.Fucking classic game series! Great video.

    I never really got Metroid on the original Nintendo either. The first versions I played were on the GBA. After that I finally got my hands on a Super Famicon. I then got Prime Trilogy! What an amazing adventure.
