    All, this is good information. Also if you have just installed a new garbage disposal in your sink, make sure the plug is removed. It is really easy to do just a screw driver and a small hammer. You can remove the plug prior to installing the disposal or if it is already installed just put you hand inside and pull the plug out. It’s made of plastic. If you are installing a badger insinkerator, read step 15 in your instruction manual. I didn’t and had water standing in the dish washer. This was the problem for me. Hope this helps someone.

    Great job 👍👍👍 Getting them up and running quickly is the name of the game. I routinely make repairs of broken parts or whatever, to get people online, then order the new parts, ASAP.
    My only rule is, not cause a safety hazzard by making my temporary repair.

    Had same thing few months back, it would work every other time you tried to run it. After few times, the code came back on, pretty much I found glass stuck in the impeller and I believe it was there long enough that the motor was burnt out and wouldn't work until I replaced it. Works now, glad yours worked out 👍 keep the videos coming Handyman!

She appreciates what you’ve done vs a salesman telling me we need me 2 new motherboards… one I’ve already purchased. I’ll follow up if this does it. Good idea to blow out the water drain hose. I did not have enough lung capacity and strength. I used an air compressor. I placed a 3/4 inch PVC nipple covered with an uncap with a quarter inch hole drilled. This worked very effectively.
    . it cleaned out the clog from the Kenmore Elite. It is now pumping the water out effectively. thanks for the good idea.

    Hey handy man nice job figuring that out. I have installed many dw and inspectors here in florida want dw drain line coming from up top as close to top as you can then loop or have a lift and drop to keep from having water back flowing from sink back into dw and not draining right . Some counties want line strapped or zip strip holding high or holding loop. Good video ! Till the next one !

    • @asterizk
      @asterizk Před 4 lety

      Thank you very much for the tip about the loop! My dishwasher was continually getting stinky and we couldn't figure out why. My dishwasher discharge line ran straight dishwasher to the disposal.. and I'm guessing it doesn't have a checkvalve in it to prevent flow from the sink into the dishwasher. Didn't have enough line to create a loop, but pinned the line up high, very close to the countertop and well above the disposal... it's been about two weeks now and the stink is minimal!! We've been washing dishes by hand in that time... there was still a little stink left in the dishwasher tonight when we looked for the first time so we're going to re-run it tonight to clear that out and get a better "stink baseline", but I think I'm going to go ahead and call this a win! Thank you again

  • @myquartknee
    @myquartknee Před 5 lety +2

    What area are you in? Is there a P-Trap on the ABS? That is the first time I have ever seen a dishwasher drain into an open pipe like that. Most parts of the country require the dishwasher to go through an "air-gap" before draining into the main line and all drain connections should be secured with clamps. Looks like there should be a screen protecting the impeller from debris. I also do home repair and remodeling on the west coast and much of the work I do is following other people around correcting the things they have done improperly.

    7:02 ...if you want your dishwasher to load hot water then run your hot water at the kitchen sink until it runs hot before starting your dishwasher otherwise it will load the cold water that has been sitting in the pipe between your water heater and dishwasher (which will likely be the amount that it needs and very little hot water will go into the washing cycles (the hot water will only fill the pipe between those appliances and it will cool off by the time the next cycle comes, the result being that you will be washing your dishes in cool or cold water (unless you DON'T use the energy saver settings or DO use the heating element setting if your system has one))). I have the idea that you will understand the situation and how it is occurring now that its been brought to your attention... Best regards.

    Dishwashers, washing machines, fridges, etc....can be so finicky/fussy to fix. Can end up being something simple, or something horrendous 🤣 (wish the mounting clips/fasteners were made little bit more durable etc...; why, cuz you’d be surprised how many times I go & fix a dishwasher & those things are broken....or just plain GONE!).

    • @davidsmith5599
      @davidsmith5599 Před 5 lety +1

      Amen brother. Those mounting clips are flimsy and just waiting to slip off or bend off. Horrible quality even on the higher end dishwasher (I am looking at you Miele). The clips should not be poorly manufactured for installation of mainstream washers either. For the uninitiated, if your dishwasher is wobbly, look up at where the DW attaches to the underneath of the cabinet - it's probably not the feet (even though that was part of the problem in the Handyman's fix of this one). Good video. Good use of the shop vac on this one (and your next video) (taught me the versatility of a shop vac).

  • @arcanetrigger828
    @arcanetrigger828 Před 5 lety +14

    should be a check valve built into the pump that doesn't allow you to blow backwards like that. (has to be here in Canada maybe different in your location) the filter is fine its a dishwasher not a garburator. large foods and solid items should be removed from the dishes before they go in. anything the soap cannot break down the dishwasher, by design will attempt to flush down the drain. also if the pump is running with the door open as it was in the video, it means that your flood switch has been tripped.

    • @kingokafor6215
      @kingokafor6215 Před rokem +1

      Please don't use a drill just use a standard Philips screwdriver the hoses that go to your dishwasher should run through holes that are drilled through the side of the cabinet there's a water supply hose and there should be a clear or maybe solid colored holes it's usually corrugated that will connect to a garbage disposal or the tail piece of the kitchen sink if the dishwasher is not draining try holding the drain option or holding the start option to cancel the operation to see if there's a humming sound if there is a humming sound that would indicate that the pump is still running if the pump is running try disconnecting the drain hose from the garbage disposal or sink drain tailpipe and using approximately 4 to 5 ft of 12 or 14 gauge electrical wire you will need to curl it at the tip to push it through the drain hose that will clear any solid debris from the hose you may require a multi-bit screwdriver such as a 11 in 1 to remove the drain hose from under the sink

    Heres a thought...RINSE FOOD COATED DISHES PRIOR TO PLACING IN DISHWASHER...QUICK RINSE AFTER USING THE DISH...JUST A PASS THROUGH THE WARM WATER...AND HEY NOTHING WRONG WITH PLACING IN HOT SOAPY WATER OR MAYBE DOING DISHES...NOT DIFFICULT, IVE HAD 6 KIDS AND I CAN COUNT ON ONE HAND HOW MANY TIMES I NEEDED SOMEONE ELSE TO WASH DISHES and i cannot count on one hand how helpful my husband was at anything other than impregnating me!!! You are a handy man a good dad and great hubby for fixing stuff. But to prevent future clogs maybe tell wife she must rinse food off dishes...you have a garbage disposal to grind residual food bits down drain for this purpose. I have a sprayer feature on my faucet and i love it. I do dishes by hand still even throughout giving birth to 6 kids i never used the dishwasher unless there was a flu bug or illness passed around between us and then i would wash the dishes and place them in the dishwasher and run a full bleach water cycle on pots and pans with heated drying like an autoclave..lol..after microbiology and infectious disease courses in college i am a germaphobe well kind of..and tell your wife 1 tablespoon of bleach to a normal spray bottle is perfect for disinfecting toys after playdates also great for doorknobs door jams inside of refrigerator and handles great for car door handles and steering wheels bathroom potty chairs and toilet seats and around floor of potty chairs and front of toilets...yes i had 4 girls 2 boys...lol..it isnt strong with bleachy smell and it is a virus killing solution you dont need to almost pass out with bleach fumes for bleach to be effective. It is strong you should pour some down all sinks and drains every once in a while and through washer and dishwasher..to combat bacterial growth and the germies that can come up from sinks drains and be airborn...if you can smell it there is a ton of bacteria already floating around in air. Also, even in winter open windows and air out house. You must change out your air in your house change your air filters in your air and heating intake filter...but open windows and doors at least once a week...in summertime daily.

    A strange thing has happened lately. I've raised my rate a bit and business more than tripled. I don't know if it is perceived value or one customer with a lot of connections but have you experienced this phenomenon in your business?

    What about a dishwasher the drains but stinky despite being cleaned with multiple cleaners and bleach? Dish washer is phenomenal other than the stench. (Actually I think I have the same dish washer as in the video)

      Make sure your drain hose has a high loop in it to stop sink water from backing into the sump of the dishwasher. That can cause a smell

    I have this same dishwasher. Hasn't worked since day 1.

  • @mostlikelywedoitservices9743

    Also, put a level on the unit. It needs to be level all directions or water can leak past the gaskets. Just like if the dishwasher is got food build up or calcium build up in the spray arms. That can also cause water to spray oddly and a perfectly good door gasket will leak.

    I am a bit surprised your were able to blow through the drain hose from that end because there should be a check valve on the other end of the line that prevents back flow from the sink..
