Woodturning - Hidden Treasure Inside a Tree Root

- In this video I turn Natural Edge Vase from a root of a Ash tree. This was quite a challenging turn with all the rotten bits, bug holes and dirt that you find in roots, But i think it turned out full of character, especially the ripply grain on one side. It was finished with Danish oil and Varnish.

From one angle as it turns on the turntable, it has a feeling of a mother and father each holding their childs hand

Yeah you're right but I'm a tree man that's been doing work for 30 years a little more maybe I guess I can't really count my teenage years but I can say 30 years old Harry showing us all the tricks he is badass thank you for showing me your skills I try to learn something new everyday awesome work God bless you and family

That vase was absolutely fabulous, and out of something that would have just lay there rotting away or used as firewood..? That’s just brilliant workmanship…!! 👍🏽👏🏽👏🏽

There are a lot of people putting out wood turning videos on YT.
Only a handful of those, imho, are truly talented individuals. Harry is one of them & he makes it all look so easy. It's not.
He is a true Artisan and comes by it naturally. I can't wait to see what the future holds for him.
We frequently use the term nimble footed but after these wood working artisans we have to perforce coin the term" nimble handed". Simply a treat to watch for their sheer dexterity.

Beautiful. My uncle was a major wood artisan, as you are. He made a set of wooden steins each one from a different wood and each one was not pieced together, they were from one solid piece of wood as your vase is. He passed away many years ago, but I am the owner of these beautiful steins on a turned stand. I cherish them. I know your beautiful vase will be cherished by someone that values the artistry that you have shared with us. Thank you for allowing me to be transposed back to a most special time in my life.

Very satisfying to watch this happen. I had no idea the results would be so good. I remember making a wooden box in high school. They decided to let girls take wood shop. It was very enjoyable. I wish I could try this.

Anyone who knows how hard it is to work with wood on a lathe will appreciate the beauty behind that piece of art thanks for sharing your video.
I wouldn't quite go as far as to say the tree root was ugly. But I will say he brought out the beauty that was within it. And beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

It’s never too late. I’m in my 70’s and only 🌞started turning a couple of years ago. It turned out beautiful
