@@captaincrankshaft they are not complicated, new ones? Sure they are, those old ones are not bad at all. Remember to change the transmission fluid while at it! And def change that coolant, boxer engines tend to be harder on coolant because of hot spots.

Looks like you lucked out.
Do all deferred maintenance first. Oil/filter, air and cabin filters, flushing all fluids, etc
Something your mechanic didn’t mention but I’d recommend replacing are fuel injectors and water pump. 2 items that are known to cause problems on the 996.
IMO the IMS bearing can wait until you’re ready to replace the clutch.

and also you can wait to replace the IMS bearing when you are ready to put a new clutch in, not worth taking the gearbox off just to do the ims

What engine does it have? If it's the 3.4 you don't need to do the ims, only on the 3.6 it's a weak point.
