Indeed, a female relative on my mother's side was transported to Australia in 1818 for stealing a handful of buttons. She got 7 years. When she had done her time, she married another convict (who had stolen off cuts from a tailor - possibly the same tailor). They were granted a plot of land and assigned several convicts to work it. It was less about punishment and more about colonisation.
Neil Gaiman's comment about what you need for writing -- a bunch of pencils and some paper -- nicely tracks what William Faulkner had to say on the subject, except he insisted he also needed a little whiskey, too. This may well explain a good deal about the writing he actually produced. :~)
This was amazing. You can tell they have known each other for a long time. Two brilliant people catching up and we all get to listen. BTW if you have a chance, check out Neil Gaiman and Magaret Atwood's Master Classes. So good! I'm working on a novel right now and their advice and motivation has helped me a lot. You need all the motivation you can get when trying to climb the enormous and lonely novel mountain.
I really enjoyed the part about the folk story of American history. Of course, we, Americans, know that all other countries have historic fantasies. I've always known we had them, too. But being an American, it was hard to conceive. Thanks for enlightening me.
I'm about to make a bold statement: Margaret Atwood is the one woman, significantly older than me, whom I would make love with! Everything about her is so attractive....intelligence, charm, wit, talent, and even at 80 is still physically beautiful. And especially her smile, I always thought it was warm and inviting. So Mrs. Atwood, if you ever read this know that there's a fan of yours who thinks of you as a goddess on Earth, and would treat you as such! Xo
This comment was truly a masterpiece,I know your whole two delusional brain cells were working overtime to come up with that, just like how your receding hairline is working overtime to stay on your 30 inch forehead. Can men appreciate a womans work without trying to be with them?? And I bet you,100% even if y'all were the last people on earth, she wouldn't even dare to glanch in your direction, actually she'd run as fast as she could in the opposite direction. I know living in an old home is boring, but leave this woman alone 😭. I'm gonna tell you some shocking news: telling women you want to be with them,is NOT a complement. It just exposes how creepy you are🤮. I recommend therapy, and hair transplant surgery. -With peace and love, get some help, and stop being delusional ♥️😊🫶.
You know what we'd all really love to see? (But it could never, ever happen.) That would be a conversation between Margaret Atwood and Jordan Peterson -- they're both Canadians, after all. :~)
As to their comments about the puritans and quakers. They all came to America for freedom and opportunity which is I am sure the same reason they came to America. I love this country.
“We are now in a world where the government purports to be able to read your mind…” It looks like that pendulum has swung either direction for some time…
I really can't take Neil Gaiman's cutie pie silliness. I just want to hear Margaret Atwood speak. He's an annoying extra unnecessary appendage we could all live without.
Watching them talk about the Handmaids Tale in 2023 hits different
She's a truly unique person. Rare. Someone to aspire to be like in many ways.
My goodness. Two of the best speaking voices ever, it's like candy for the ears!
I'm currently reading Hag-Seed AND The Sandman and suddenly this popped out on my recommendations. I feel blessed by CZcams...
Battle of the curly manes.
More like dance.
Lol!
Came here for Neil, stayed for Margaret! What an awesome woman! And what a lovely interview this was to listen too!
Came here for.. stayed here for. How original. 😂
It's an engaging discussion.I love both of them but it's lovely to see Margeret's lively spirit even at 75.
It is so lovely to see them interact! They both have a wonderful sense of humour.
Yes! Absolutely!
I can't believe that:
1.this does not have more views
2.five people have actually disliked it!
One year later, this comment is still valid, but the abominable dislikers increased to 11.
Shut up you have no idea why this disliked, maybe they wanted more, you are just whining like child
VeryStableGenius So you’re one of the dislikes eh! 😂

This is such a wonderful conversation! Thank you Margaret and Neil!

I love the way he asked her to come up on the stage. So sweet haha.
I am in love with them both
She is wonderful
She is such a joy!
Atwood mentioned Chuck Wendig's blog, awesome!!!
My thoughts exactly! Though somehow I'm not surprise that all these awesome people like the other awesome people that I like.
I want Margaret Atwood to call me cute, and Neil Gaiman sing me happy birthday!!!!!

I haven't started Atwood's class, but Neil's was amazing!
Wonderful.
Long pen 🖊 good to know
Awesome! She's cool. I mean I like to listen to her and her work.
Good character acting on Margret Atwood's part.
Reminder for me: Start at 20:43
ugh her hitting on him in such a weird way. both genius. she needs to stop hitting on him tho.

I'm not sure Peterson would shut up long enough for Ms Atwood to get her meaning expressed properly.

It's sad how in the future all the famous people from the 70's are going to die.
Thank goodness some are immortalized on video preserving at least some of their thoughts and personality.

Your "unnecessary appendage" comment can go eat caca.
-With peace, love,and caca.
Is it me or is Margaret Atwood starting to look like John McEnroe?
luv to run my breasts thru his hot hair
ms atwood ur so dam kool !!!
It would be more "likeable" of Neil's ego didn't hog the second chair.
Margaret Atwood is wonderful. But Gaiman needs to visit the dentist.
Why? Bcs he would fix in a certain box? I think he gladly does not give a single fuck
He's British, we're not known for decent dental work, tbh.
You're projecting love,
If you need a good dentist,I can recommend you one♥️♥️💗
Laura, karma is real. With that energy your grandchild will flush your dentures down the toilet.
