The original video for this ( which dropped just a few days ago) also is set in the '70's and is a whole barrel of fun. Kevin even sports an afro and everyone is dressed in outfits from that era. Also...those two dancers are Cost n' Mayor who are currently touring with Petatonix on their US tour. Scott's been having a lot of fun picking up dance moves and making TikToks with them.
Live performances is probably the key to reacting to Pentatonix. Gets taken down a lot less often than the normal videos.
If you watch the "official video" you'll see that the visual story being told is that they're a group performing on a 70's TV show, costumes and all. I think the choreography in this video is the same as the "official."
I went to their concert two nights ago, and hearing this live was just insane!! Megan wasn't there, so Mitch and Kirstin took turns singing her part. They are so incredible. I believe they were going for a 70's vibe, which you can really see in the official music video for the song. It's hilarious!
I like Kelly Clarkson and have since she won American idol. I think she is authentic and a good singer. But I love PTX and truly a Pentaholic.
If you listen to the lyrics, they’re singing everything you are talking about: “May your heart be evergreen every December, and a part of you believe and always remember that sugar plums dance and reindeer glide, and Santa always reads your letters, and may you stay a kid on Christmas forever.” That nostalgia is exactly what the song is about and why it seems endearing instead of cringy…because we can all feel it 😊
Lots of upbeat Pentatonix Christmas songs. Some favorites: O Come All Ye Faithful, Three Ships, Carol of the Bells, God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen...so many. :)
The official video for this they actually used video equipment from the 70's. The video format was 70's style variety show as well. totally cool. Isn't this one of the most joyous songs ??!! Love this!!

They unapolagetically lean in to the cringe making it less cringe and more camp! Love it. And it fits so well with the message of song. Staying a kid on christmas. Just having fun like you used to do without caring about how it looks or if it's silly or childish or whatever. It's just a ball of joy and fun.
Kevin, Scott and Matt wrote most of this some with some little inputs from Meagan. And their goal was a nostalgic older feeling of a classic Christmas song. The official video they had a 70’s theme to it. So you were on point with it sounding like it was from an earlier time. Love this one - it is just so fun!! And love your reactions! ❤
The video has a very retro look and feel to it. You called it!
The studio track for this has a LOT of synths in the background, but they are going for a 70's sound so you've got to. The production credits have brass synths, string synths, etc. This doesn't seem to have quite as much backing, but you can hear strings and little bell notes, and the trumpet and saxophone riffs. I watched one of the fan videos of a tour performance of this and it doesn't sound to me like there is as much taped accompaniment as this, and Meghan isn't touring with them so her parts are split by Mitch and Kirstie.
The Official video of this is REALLY cute. They leaned heavy on the nostalgia, and made the video as if it were one of those dance shows from the 70's. Like Soul Train or American Bandstand. They learned the dance moves from a duet called Cost and Mayor. You should see the INSANE Tik Tok's they have been filming at the concerts they have been doing when they perform this song. Their dancing is incredible, and they get the crowds involved and it's GLORIOUS! I love your emotional reactions, but you need to have a little fun now and then as well. One of my personal favorite christmas songs of theirs is O Come All Ye Faithful. It is Deep Southern Gospel Praise Dancing at it's finest. Have a very happy holiday season Brandon. This is a very happy and uplifting performance. Not one of my favorite PTX performances, but still excellent of course.
Actually, there is instrumentation in this song. They have been using instruments more often in their music, but the emphasis is always on the voices.

Although the writing credit is "Written by: Kevin Olusola, Scott Hoying, Meghan Trainor, Trannie Anderson, Matt Sallee, Jared Dillon Conrad", you can tell a good amount is from Meghan Trainor. Those early rock and roll beats are all over her solo music.
just a joy to watch, with you saying that it just has that retro feel, I suggest having a look at the Official Video for this and you'll see the influence really comes through

I'm really really hoping you choose to react to O Come All Ye Faithful now that you said you'd been listening to a lot of Christmas ballads-- it's gonna knock your socks off! The dancers in this video are, I think, the dancers that are on tour with them! I recognize them from some clips on the tour. || I feel like the dance moves and lyrics dovetail in this! They probably grew up seeing goofy stuff like this and as kids hoped they'd grow up and get to do that... but society moved on! NAH let's just nostalge-it!

I've got to disagree with you guys on this. Scott is the only one singing on this. Ptx is so much better than just background singers. I wish they all had their moments in this. If it was a Meghan Trainor song I'd like it. It's a duet with her and Scott. I'd rather watch ptx do their thing. I do like you as a reactor though. You seem like a great guy.
I really don't understand this argument. PTX has always done songs with only one person taking the lead. In this case it is Scott, who was involved in writing this song. Mitch wrote Anchor and sang it alone (or think about Aha). And for It's the most wonderful time of the year Scott is taking the bass part and just vibing in the background. Kirstin did the collab on Feliz Navidad. That is the concept of the new album. 🤷🏼♀️ And furthermore I think it was a clever marketing idea. Having Meghan as a collab while she released a new album and is trending on Tiktok.
I guess you have to go new ways when you've done all christmas songs before. 😅
On some other reaction someone called this a Meghan and Scott duet with backup vocals by Quadratonix. I thought that pretty much summed it up.
@@some_girl_on_YT well they haven't done all Christmas songs before. They've done a ton of covers and their own songs. It didn't sound like ptx. It sounded like a Meghan and Scott duet. Which is fine, he's done duets before but where was the rest of them? It didn't sound like ptx. I know the two of them are friends, I thought she was friends with Mitch too, but it should have been called a duet, not a ptx thing. It's great they're trending on tiktok, but people think it's a Meghan Trainor song. Not ptx.

I just watched Last Christmas which was a TRUE collaboration. Now THAT song I liked. One of the other guys even had a beatbox back and forth with Kevin! That was cool. And everyone got their part.
