- A float switch is a mechanical switch that floats on top of a liquid surface. As the liquid level goes up or down, it moves vertically with the liquid level. This is a type of level sensor and this device is used to detect the level of liquid within a tank. And also float switch may be used to control a pump, as an indicator, an alarm, or to control other devices.
In this video, I have explained about float switch wiring connection to control a water pump.
What is a float switch?
A float switch detects the level of a liquid in a tank. Based on the water level, it will open or close an electrical circuit generally used to pump water in or out of the tank.
How to work a float switch?
A float switch moves with the liquid level up and down vertically. An internal mechanical switch opens or closes an electrical circuit with gravity. Therefore, the electrical circuit can turn on/off equipment, like a water pump.
What does a float switch do?
A float switch monitors the level of a liquid in a tank. It then opens or closes an electrical circuit based on the liquid level and wiring to control external components.
How to install a float switch?
A float switch is installed in a liquid tank. Firstly, a pre-set level is made and can be done with a counterweight. Then, based on a normally open or closed wiring configuration, it will open or close the electrical circuit based on its movement up or down with the liquid level.
How to wire a float switch?
A float switch is wired in either the normally open or normally closed position. A normally open position is open when down (low liquid level) and a normally closed position is closed when down. The open/closed position refers to the electrical circuit.

low water level blue and black connected. high water level also blue and black connected.. so, when the water pump should on and off?
@@atanlap low level: blue and black, the pump is on. High level: the pump is off automatically. The blue-black connection remain.

Can such a floating switch control two separate pump at same time , like NO to stop pumping and NC to start pumping (to use common for both pumps and NC for one pump and NO to control another pump)?

I'm not really familiar with the MCB thing. I have a 1HP 12.2/6.0-6.1A 115/208-230V air compressor pump. It has a black wire, a white wire, and a green wire. I *think* it is 2 hots and a ground. It currently connects to a D-box float switch with a lever that is moved by a rod with a float on the end. Unfortunately, it keeps getting jammed & keeps the pump running so it overflows the cistern. I want to have the pump turn on when the water is low and off when the water is high.
I get L= live (hot), N= neutral & green is ground. So, it looks like the power supply wires connect to the MCB but ground goes directly to the pump but I'm slightly confused about the red wire from the MCB. Is it spliced? Why does it seem to go further in to the contactor than the other wires? Is it connecting at a different point? Is the blue wire also spliced with a black lead to go to the black? wire of the float switch? Also, what about that unconnected red wire on the float switch? Does it just say disconnected? Is the MCB really necessary?
Black = power
White = neutral
Green = ground
That's the color designation of US wiring

It appears you are breaking the N and not the L, would also recommend an isolated low voltage control circuit. Where is your coil contacts, I assume they are the two on top otherwise you would have a short, I.E where is A1 A2 coil terminals.

Looks like your switching the Neutral to to operate the Contactor Coil. In New Zealand Wrong, Neutral is not switched at all, so only Single Pole Circuit breaker and contactor used. You would use a Control C.B. as well

Its not advisable to have AC.supply in the water no doubt the floatswitch is compact,it could result in shock due to leakage

Why we have to use contactor? We can directly connect the phase line to float switch right
