Got my SR8012 Friday afternoon and was up all nite going through the settings fine tuning it , its one thing to see it online but to have it right in front of you in all of its glory! OMG! this thing rocks! Ramen noodles for the next few months will be well worth the sacrifice! LOL
Awesome job Michael! I love my 8012. The only thing I did was add a McIntosh MC303 for extra power on my front stage RF7III, and RC64III. It wasn’t that the 8012 was hurting for power but I just happened to get a great deal on the amp. Otherwise I really have 0 complaints . Build quality is great, and consistently sounds amazing on everything I’ve thrown at it.
Great work again man! Love the aesthetic design. Love all the inputs, and that back panel layout. Great function features, very versatile, and it looks to have a great build quality.
What an amazing machine! I had the honor to get to see one in real life at the X-Fi audio show in the Dutch city of Eindhoven, 10 saus ago. It's really a monster receiver.
Thanks for your time and your help I decided to return the Denon 6500H and because of the sensitivity of my SVS Ulrta speakers @ 87db I am going to keep. my Emotiva XPA -5 Gen 3 and I purchased today at a reduced price the Marantz SR8012 this will work for my theatre room and will replace Onkyo TX 646 with the Denon 4400H It all ready set up for 7.1 just have add 4 ceiling speakers in my family room The Boom Boom Room is coming soon Mercy Mercy
Finally, the suspense is over! Very thought out reveiw. Glad you decided to purchase the Marantz. One day, when another flaggship model comes out and the price of the SR8012 goes way down I might pull the trigger. I want to go 11.2. Right now I'm running 7.2 and with the Klipsch speakers. I love what I have in the SR7011. Sounds great. Love listning in 2 channel also. Plenty power. Just one day want to upgrade to atmos 11.2. I can with the SR7011 but have to buy a 2 channel amp. Glad to hear the SR8012 can handle the 11 speakers at reference levels well. I don't want to have to find room for another amp. Thanks for the reveiw Youthman!
Glad you enjoyed the video Michael. I hated that it took me so long to get it finished but I wanted to make sure I did a tour of you and not just throw it together for the sake of getting it finished
Always been a big fan of the marantz and denon lineup. My first denon was the 3805 just running a small 2.1 setup. After that the 3805 died after 12 years of consistent use every day. It's replacement was the denon avr S-510bt. Just something to get me by and start on my main surround build. Then it got to the point I wanted to go to 7 channels for Dolby Atmos. So I went to the denon avr s-720w and I was blown away since it was my first receiver with the audyssey MultEQ system and the internet connectivity. I had also made a secondary family room 5.2 system out of the S-510 using klipsch pro media speakers (it was the best I had for that space). It was time for another upgrade so I had bit the bullet and spent a little more for the marantz NR1608 which is my current marantz for my home theater. I am currently running a 5.1.2 with a pair of rebuilt Sony mf-515 fronts, Dayton audio bookshelf's as surrounds, and klipsch promedias as top middle speakers, my sub is the Polk audio psw10 I think. I couldn't be happier with my marantz setup with the future klipsch speakers coming. I've got a set of RP-260F's on the way ,an RC-440 , along with a klipsch r-10sw subwoofer
Congratulations on choosing the SR8012 my friend. I have the same unit and LOVEE IT. I have had almost every high end receiver out there but the 8012 tops them all. You made the right choice and you be blessed too.
Thanks! I really like it as well. This is my first new Receiver I’ve ever owned. My previous was the Onkyo TX-NR5008 but it was several years old when I bought it
Being that you had an Onkyo did you considered the Onkyo TX-RZ3100? It's an 11ch AVR also but with Class D amplification (brought to the Onkyo AVR family after acquiring the Pioneer's home theater entertainment business); If the RZ1100 (class D also) can drive seven channels continuously into 8-ohm loads @ 0.1% distortion @ 103.2 watts the RZ3100 unit can muster a bit more power, perhaps 110 watts at the same conditions; However, the Marantz SR7011 "can only" output 75.1 watts @ the same conditions; And the SR8012 can output 86 watts at the same conditions; Class D can be more dynamic on the lower end of the audio spectrum. I've been researching for quite a while now and me, like yourself, also have an old Onkyo AVR. However, class D AVRs seems to me like a good choice in terms of heat/durability if one is going to feed 11 channels with power from that unit, 11 A/B amps will get pretty hot during some intense audio! Can you comment on this? All the best Youthman!
The 3100 looks like a nice unit but the Marantz has Auro-3D and once they ditched Audyssey for AccuEQ, that was a turn off for me. Class D amps run cooler but I prefer A/B amps myself, even though they do run much hotter. My previous Onkyo suffered from HDMI issues as did another friend of mine's. Didn't want to deal with that headache again. Hopefully they have resolved the HDMI Board issues they have been plagued with over the years. I wouldn't mind reviewing one though.
Our Little Cakery Hello, I have SR7012 and I am running 7.2.2 Atmos Dobly Setup with Klipsch 260F. Is it worth getting power amp to run all the speakers or is Marantz SR7012 good and loud enough?
Hello Youthman! First of all, thank's for all your awesome videos, keep up your really nice work. I'd like to ask you a question: at the same price tag, which one would you choose between the Marantz SR8012 and the Denon 6500H? I've done a lot research, seen a lot of videos but still don't know which one I should buy. You might be the right person to help once you reviewed both. Which one sounded better in your setup? Waiting to hear from you, thank you very much once more. Regards.
I got mine in january, I only have a 5.1 set up. It's a true audiophile receiver with wonderful stereo music performance. Obviously it's high end for HT but only the best receivers sound this good with music.
When do you listening in stereo for music do you bypass auddessy? I mean do you pick L/R bypass and if you do , do you hear a volume drop off? Or stays at the same level?
Hi Youthman, Thanks for all the videos on CZcams. I follow your channel and watched most of them. I purchased this Mammoth SR8012 last week with a good discount due to SR8015 arrival. I don't need 8K or other 2020 model bells and whistles! I can admit the SR8012 is a superb receiver both for music and movie. I had to tweak my dual SVS PB2000 levels up after Audysey. The towers are RP 6000F. IMO It's definitely better than Denon for music and comparable for movies. Cheers.
I am definitely considering this receiver for an upgrade from my old Onkyo TX-NR1030. I already own an Outlaw 5000 (120x5) amplifier, I believe I can run my 7.2.4 on the receiver itself. I was planning on upgrading my receiver and grabbing an Emotiva amplifier as well, I guess I can just grab this receiver and save on another external amplifier.
Wow.. The timing. I got mine 1 day before the review and I LOVE it. Going to hook up 4 atmos ceiling soon. I had an older SR 5009 before it. I can tell the difference in the quality, separation, soundstage presentation. And hearing sounds come into the foreground on many songs that I did not hear before. I guess it's the attack and decay speed that allows things to sound so good. Last night I played a part of John Wick 2 and it was incredible. Btw, I got a dealer recertified unit for 2200 from an authorized MARANTZ dealer on eBay with 100% feedback. It came in perfect condition, looks new and even had that new AVR smell.
I had a limited budget and so I got 4 of these Yamaha NSIC800WH 140-Watts (8"). I thought since they were mainly for surround effects, it would not make sense to spend much more. I'm curious how Atmos is. Will post an update after I cross that bridge.
Thank you Billy. If you do end up purchasing the 8012 and use this link amzn.to/2QtdlPZ or the one in the description of my video, I would be grateful. Michael
Just bought this beast few months ago, enjoying alot in my theater, hooked up with Klipsch RP 8000, 504C, RS 52 ii, Jamo ceiling (Atmos) & dual SVS PB 1000 pro. Using Zidoo Z1000 pro & Fire stick 4K max. Plz suggest Bluray player either i will go for used Oppo 203 or new Magnetar UDP 800.
Got my eyes on that one too. Made in japan, identical 11 channels aplification copper chasi, huge toroidal and all formats so far. Is actually cheap, for what it offers. I'm not looking for any other for sometime now. This one is perfect XD
I agree Emmanuel. It certainly meets all of my current home theater needs. If you end up purchasing it and use the link in the description of my video, I would certainly be grateful as it helps me continue to provide content on the channel.
Nice video. I think lots of people don't realise that once you start hooking up all those speakers. That the wattage goes out the window! That's the downside to surround receivers. So much stuff has to be stuffed into such a limited space that something has to suffer? The majority of that is amplification. That's when power amps come into place. You want more power? Add amps! Still a nice review. Thanks
Thanks. Fortunately in my theater, my Klipsch LaScalas have 104dB sensitivity so they are incredibly easy to drive. With a lot less efficient speakers, you very well might need to add an external amp
I picked up the SR7012. Unfortunately I did it just before I had to leave on a work trip so it will be a bit before I can get it set up. Once I do I will let you know my thoughts. I am sure it will work well with my RF7 IIs and my RC64 II. Not sure what speakers I will be using for the rest of the set up but for now i will most likely just do a 5.2 then add to it later.
Most people have cell phones which aren't listed in a phone book. So I agree with you. Rainman is the only one I know of to read a phone book on the potty. Anyway, found a cool dude on eBay to sell me a hard copy manual. I love this receiver!
Great review. I just set up nine and have a question... when engaging L/R bypass to listen to Tidal I hear a big volume drop off, I know Auddessey eq goes away but the rest of the measurement should remain. I must say that I don’t have this issue with the sr7012, the volume stays the same and it sounds fantastic . Wondering if anyone else is having this issue???
Hi youthman. Your video is great. Am currently running 7.1 with receiver Harman kardon which is quiet cool but I think I lack some power as well as option for external Amp. What you recommend me the 7012 or 8012 a one time investment as I don't have place in my cabinet for an external power Amp so need a receiver which can give maximum power. Thanks
I am planning to buy a Marantz AV7705 + Emotiva XPA-7 Gen 3 (already have a XPA-5) or Marantz SR-8012 receiver for an Dolby Atmos 7.2.4. Any advices for these options? Thanks a lot.
Yeah this is the amp I want to upgrade to when I get back in to home theature. It's iteresting to see the remote went back to standard fair when mine from my old Marantz was basically one big (monochrome) touch screen, though it ate through batteries so I'll likley prefer this. Does it have a smartphone app remote as well? I thought I heard it did.
I went from a 7702mkii to the sr8012.. same channels but i want to start building my speaker setup. I was using krk rokit rp5 g4s which are powered studio monitors but they're only 45W. They sound amazing but i need to bump up the power. Going to a receiver to build my speaker setup then getting a multichannel amp is the best route i think
Am trying to get an 11.2.4 with height speakers in the front and back and 2 ceiling speakers how can I add ceiling speakers should I get an amp which I will anyway but how would I assign it to play over head
I am using Marantz SR3053 which is a prety opl model. I am not being able to get 5.1 output from the receiver when I connect the receiver to an optical output from my sony KdlR550C. What may be the reason, doesn't my receiver optical input support 5.1. please help
Hey youthman! How’s it going? Do you remember the rms on your front L C R ? Also, Do you check for clipping on all your speakers and subs? Love your “man cave!” Larry
How is this receiver as far as heat output? Great video by the way. The heat and reliability aspect are what are swaying my decision. I would only need it for a 7.2 channel movie processing. I dont use it for music.
Another great review! I jumped on the SR7012 for $1199. I've got an Outlaw 5000 which I'll be using to drive the L/C/R and one pair of the rear heights for a 7.2.4 setup. I just could not justify paying that much more for the 8012, though it was tempting.
Someone just showed me the 8012 is $2300 for Refurb - www.accessories4less.com/make-a-store/item/marsr8012/marantz-sr8012-11.2-ch-x-140-watts-networking-a/v-receiver/1.html
I got it for 2300 dealer recertified NOT Refurb. From SafeSoundHQ. Basically new/like new. It came like it was spanking new. Completely packed, spotless, new smell. All protective labels and tapes etc.
I was always curious as to why you chose the 8012 over the anthem 1120. Both are great receivers and I’m also looking forward to you reviewing the Denon 8500 if you can get your hands on one.
Hi Dave, there were a few reasons. The Anthem for whatever reason sucked a lot of the life out of the bottom end. I didn’t have that tactile feeling I got with the Denon and Marantz. Some have suggested it’s because the Denon and Marantz have Dynamic EQ. I wasn’t fond of having to use my laptop to calibrate and then upload that data to the Anthem. The Anthem does not have Airplay or AURO-3D. Because it was missing a lot of what the Marantz offered, I didn’t feel it was worth an extra $500
Thank you very much for answering my question about you choosing the Marantz 8012 over the anthem 1120. You listed off some solid reasons. I am presently running a Marantz 7010 paired with a Panasonic ub900 4K player. My speaker system consists of Aperion Verus 2 towers, center and surrounds. This is complimented by 2 pairs of SVS elevation speakers as Atmos height speakers. I am also running dual SVS pb -4000’s and a JVC dla 550 projector with a CinemaScope 110” screen. I am very happy with the performance but like you am always looking to make improvements. I will probably pull the trigger on the 8012 but the Denon 8500 might be a possibility as well. A quick question before I sign off youthman - I have a dedicated theater that is roughly 12 x 23. Due to the lack of width I am only running one set of surrounds with no backs. With the 8012 could I run 5.2.6. The 6 representing heights. I just wanted to get your thoughts on that. Anyways keep up the great work your reviews are wonderful.
Hi there Youthman. The JVC is great. They are known for their black levels and great contrast. My projector is a few years old now but still impressed me. JVC carries three new native 4K projectors that interest me. A little pricey though. They start at roughly 7500 and go up to 15000 I think for the top tier model which offers 8k eshift. Thanks again for the feedback. Congrats on the new job. Sounds exciting.
Can I use this to drive a small 4-6 speaker viewing area , and run a separate audio source to the other speakers? I have a large covered outdoor deck area. I'd like to drive the tv area and play music in the other zone all with this unit. Will it do this?
Hello Youthman. Quick question, if you had the 3500 dollars which AVR would you select between the Marantz SR8012 and the Anthem MRX 1120? And why? Please help me with the decision
I chose the SR8012. More features, $500 less and I was able to get much better bass response with the SR8012. I have since sold it and upgraded to separated with the AV7705 and Monolith 11X
I've went though many AV receivers in the past few months from: Denon, pioneer back to Denon to the Marantz 6013, which I took back for one problem but they stopped selling it so I went with the Denon 6500h. It's just driving my wife crazy! Although I really like the Denon avr x-6500h; I think this too will be going back; just doesn't have the music sound quality that I seen the Marantz had. Although I'm more of a movie buff, I really loved the music quality of the Marantz and feel the SR8012 will give me the best of both worlds since they are extremely similar on all fronts, I strongly feel it will also give me that music quality that I'm looking for while not sacrificing my movie sound that the Denon AVR -X6500H is currently giving me. Which of the two did you like more and felt may have given you the most?
As far as these reviews in the future, it would be really great if you could measure the power draw of the amp, this particular amp, for example, looks like it would draw a lot of electricity. It would be great to have comparisons with other amps/receivers in regards to its power draw.
I appreciate the suggestion but to be honest, I don’t see myself getting into that type of measurements. Gene with Audioholics however has a lot more testing equipment and knowledge of how to do it. You might want to ask him if he does that on his channel. Thanks for watching!
I was just wandering if the Sr8012 will get the 2.1 update . I have seen that it possibly will but do you have any more info on this and if so how will it work. Thanks again Youthman.
Hi Billy, I haven't heard any specifics so I Googled it - www.soundandvision.com/content/marantz-unleashes-hdmi-21-upgradeable-flagship Not the same model but unless things have changed, it might be a long way off and require hardware updates at an additional cost. Guess it's not something they can do with just a firmware update.
@Youthman i have a question, What exactly do you need for IMAX Enhanced aside from the 8012, do you need an imax enhanced TV or just standard 4K HDR, Thanks alot
This article should help- www.techradar.com/news/imax-enhanced-an-inside-look-at-the-new-standard-heading-to-home-theaters I personally am not too excited about it.
I was looking at the SR8100 real hard just picked up the Denon SR 6500H I am hooking up to the Emotiva XPA-5 GEN 3 still working on my media room. I can’t wait like to send some pictures
I purchased intake and exhaust fans for the rack system hoping the 6500 will not have to work to hard, Emotiva to carry the load LCR and surrounds channels
Sounds like it isn’t lacking anything, at least for my needs. I figured that the 205 or even 1r40 W specification was a bit bloated, but that is very typical with this type of receiver/amplifier configuration. If you need more power than what is built-in just add external amps. When I decide to upgrade to Atmos I will probably go with one of Marantz’s nine channel receivers and then add Monoprice or emotiva amps.
If i'm not mistaken, the Audioholics test results showed that this will put out roughly 90 watts per channel with all channels driven at 1% THD, which for the record is WAY better than many other AVR's around this price point when tested in real world conditions and not on paper. This is definitely an amazing AVR overall! 😉
Hi Youthman, just ran into your videos and started watching a few of them. I've seen alot of videos of other reviewers but none of them convinced me as much as you have or they would review and talk about components I didn't own. I need some advice seeing that you know your way around Klipsh and Marantz and that's what I own. Right now my system consists of (2) RP-280P's for my fronts, RP-450C center channel, for L/R back surrounds I have (2) RP-260P's, I was able to bolt up (4) RP-140SA's to the ceiling for Atmos and for bass I have the R-115SW. For the receiver I have the Marantz SR8012. I think it sounds pretty good right now but the enthusiast in me wants to upgrade. I will be replacing the 2 RP-260P's I have for surround with the RP-280's that I have in the front and then replacing the RP-280s I have in the front with the RF7 III's that I will be ordering soon. I will also be replacing the RP450-C with the RC-64 III and adding the RP 502S side surrounds and 1 more R-115SW. So basically I am going from a 5.1.4 system to a 7.2.4 system. My question is..... Will the Marantz be enough to power all of this? Your system seems a lil more demanding than the one I am getting to upgrade and you said that it pushed your speakers just fine and didn't need a separate amp. How did u think my 8012 will handle all of these speakers?.... (2) RF-7 III, the RC-64 III center channel, (2) RP280F, (4) RP-140SA (2) R-115SW, and (2) RP-502S
Thank you for the kind words macho. You have a great system but I know what it's like to get the upgrade bug at times. Adding the second sub will not only provide you with 6dB more output, but it will give you a more even bass response throughout your room. Upgrading surrounds to floor standing speakers will also be a significant upgrade. But I feel you will be most impressed with the RF7 III and RC64 III. They are incredible! Absolutely love them. I haven't heard the Reference Premiere center channels yet (hoping to hook up the RP-504C this weekend to test out). What finish are you looking for on the RC64 III? I might be selling mine. It's in Natural Cherry, have original packaging and I've watched only 1 movie on it. If interested, send me an email to michael@youthmanreviews.com. The SR8012 is a beast of a receiver. The great thing is the RF7 III have a sensitivity of 100dB which is pretty ridiculous. Doesn't take much power to get them cranking. My LaScalas are 104dB sensitivity which means they take 1/2 the power to reach the same volume as the RF7 III since it takes twice the power to gain 3dB in volume. Hope that helps.
@@Youthman Hey Youthman, been busy sorry 4 the late response. Started receiving my RF-7 III's today. Sad thing is the RC64 III is in backorder. I ordered them in black ash. As soon as I can I will send you a video of the system I have now which is the RP-280's and an after video after I get the RC64 III. I'll send you the video at the email you provided.
So you have ur denon 6500 and ur marantz 8012 both with 140 watts per with 2 channels driven so before i spend 2 to 3000$ how do you choose i read some reviews somewhere that ppl where having issues with buzzing noises coming through the speakers from the marantz and that customer service was not good at all so how is one better than the other
I did not have any issues with my SR8012. Solid receiver. Denon makes a great product as well. Marantz and Denon are owned by the same company. Marantz typically uses higher end components.
You would have to purchase the Audyssey MultEQ app from Google Play store or Apple Store. This app allows you to tweak the target curve, room correction to define frequency and more.
My big question... is the price premium from the Denon X6400H to the Marantz SR8012 justified. IQ HOME ENTERTAINMENT are the ones giving away those subs. I got a free one when I bought 4 Klipsch RB-81 Reference II's about three months ago. I also got my Denon AVRX4400H, AVRX6400H, Klipsch RF7 III's, the III Center and a few more RB-81 II's from those guys. They are the best re-seller I've found in a long time.. Unfortunately, I cannot comment on any of the gear since it's all in storage and the new build will not be till after the new year. I'm still considering the SR8012 if it is indeed a measurable level above the X6400H.
Hi Wilkie, with the Denon 6400 currently selling for $1500, I don’t feel the Marantz SR8012 is worth twice as much. When there was only an $800 difference, that IMO was a better comparison. I’m curious to see when Marantz will begin to lower the price of the SR8012
Whats the difference u feel in 8012 vs 7705 ? Using only pre outs ? I asked because much people says of transformer in receiver do interference and limit the power in pre outs and in processor 7705 not.
Hi Sean there were several reasons why I preferred the Marantz SR8012 over the Anthem MRX1120 for my setup. 1) Airplay 2) Auro-3D processing 3) Doesn’t require a computer to calibrate 4) Cost $500 less 5) Had MUCH more tactile bass. For some reason the Anthem sucked a lot of the life out of my LFE. I even sent the ARC to Anthem to tweak and although it was a little better, Audyssey with Dynamic EQ provided MUCH more tactile bass. This was the biggest negative for me. The Anthem has amazing channel separation (very similar to what I’m experiencing with separates with the Marantz AV7705 preamp + Emotiva XPA11
I noticed your setup doesn’t have floor speakers and center channel speakers anymore. Did you opt those out for the four surround speakers on the wall? Do you prefer your current set up vs having floor / center speakers? Why?
Hi, my speakers are floorstanding speakers that are placed directly behind the 150” Acoustic Transparent Screen. You can see me open the screen in this video - czcams.com/video/LEyj2BZVXPM/video.html
For sure. Those speakers are very efficient so it will have no problem driving them to reference levels. Mine is powering my (3) Klipsch LaScalas, (4) Klipsch RS62 II and (4) CDT-5800-C In-Ceiling to Reference Levels with no problem If you buy them using my Amazon Affiliate Links in the description, I would be grateful.
@@Youthman I willing spend up to 4k I want be able to connect 11 speakers within them 11 I want 3 subwoofers klipsch 115sw I don't think I'm do anything pass 11 speakers
Hi youthman please help me litle . I have a pionner lx 72 receiver and i want to upgrade it . I am between Marantz SR7013 and Denon AVR-X4500H. I have 7 .2 speakers center klipsch rc62ii, left right i have 4 speakers klipsch rp160m (2 left 2 right one up to the other ) back surround two crystal audio 100w per one ,and back left right crystal audio dipole 4. Sub one klipsch 115sw and one cav w310. Thanks a lot
Ok need help Denon 6400H replaced with NEW Denon 6500 with Emotiva XPA-5 Gen3 @ 250 watts per channel but I started reading reviews on Marantz SR8012 I am running SVS ultra bookshelf’s, center, surrounds and rear surrounds SVS elevations and two SVS PB12-NSD subwoofers in the ceiling 4 Polk rc80i
Hi Tony, I love my Marantz SR8012. It works fantastic for my setup and I don't feel the need for an amp. But my front three Klipsch LaScalas are 104dB sensitive vs 87dB for your SVS Ultra Bookshelf speakers which means it will take a lot more power to drive them than my LaScalas. It takes twice the power to gain 3dB in volume 1 watt = 87dB 2 watts = 90dB 4 watts = 93dB 8 watts = 96dB 16 watts = 99dB 32 watts = 102dB 64 watts = 105dB With my LaScalas, it only takes 1 watt to hit 104dB. So as you can see, it takes 64 times the power for the SVS Ultras to reach the same volume as my LaScalas. They are super ridiculously efficient and take very little watts to reach reference levels. The XPA-5 would be plenty of power to help drive your system. As far as Denon 6400H vs 6500, I would likely save the money and get the 6400. It's currently on sale for $1500 and was $2100 when I reviewed it just a month ago. I'm just not seeing $600 worth of improvements in the 6500. The SR8012 just went on sale for $2500 - amzn.to/2C86Myq or you can get it with a Klipsch Sub for $3000 - amzn.to/2RGDzzR.
Youthman Interesting. Did you see an improvement with more power? I’m going back-and-forth between this, the Denon 8500 or separates like the marantz 8805 and another amp. I’m currently running a Denon 4300 and a parasound 5125 (125w - all 5 Channel driven) for the front stage and surrounds. I only use the AVR for the four Atmos ceiling channels. Speakers are Goldenear Triton 5s and super center XL reference center with 6 Def tech pro monitor 1000’s for surround and 4 on ceiling atmos with 2 SVS PB3000 subs. 5.2.4. With regard to the Marantz 8012, Do you think it would sound much better than my Denon 4300 with the same current amp set up? I’m thinking I would still use the Parsound for the fronts and surround and just power the Atmos with the Marantz. I think with five channels driven the Parasound would still have the advantage but I would be getting the possibility for more channels and also hopefully improving sound quality and options like IMAX enhanced. What would you do? By the way, my current set up sounds very good but that’s never good enough is it LOL. Sorry for the long winded response and thanks great channel!
What’s the noticeable difference between the Denon 6400 and this one? Besides the extra $1500. I know you had denon heat issues. I do not. What are you getting for $1500? Any new audio formats that the 6400 doesn’t have? just wondering if it’s worth spending the extra money and getting the maranta over the denon I already have?
Better amp section, build quality and more musical. Features will be pretty much the same. The 6400 is a great unit. I wouldn’t see a need to upgrade to the Marantz since you have already bought the Denon.
This will be my first Marantz so I can not attest to their reliability. I too had the 5009 and it had HDMI sync issues but otherwise was a nice receiver.
I have the SR 5009 as well as this one. The 5009 lasted me for 4 years and works perfectly and sounds great. I use it daily. Often for hours at a time. At times, I left it on accidentally for an entire day more than once. Then I installed a smart switch to turn it off at 3:00 AM and back on when I wake up. It's been very reliable which is why I did not consider Anthem. Plus the Anthem was a grand more. Arcam, 2grand more. With almost surely diminishing returns, less features and possibly, less reliability. That's what made me go with the 8012. Very happy I did.
I originally purchased the 8012 to power 4ohm speakers axiom m100 rear Surround speakers as well as two definitive technology side speakers Dolby Atmos ceiling speakers. As well as a Vandersteen center The 2 front mains I am using axiom m100 using a Rotel mk1582 ll 2 channel 200 watts rms . Marantz stated that the 8012 can handle a 4ohm speakers I spoke with tech support to make sure that in fact it will Handel a 4 ohm load “yes it can” So I set everything up, turned on the power and WOW WOW WOW. The sound was somethings . Then about 2 hours in POP smell the 8012 fried. When I called tech support they said I needed to input a special code so the 8012 can Handel the 4 ohm speakers. They also stated that the 8012 is really a custom install product and they recommend technicians come to install it they still would’ve had to and put the special code but they would’ve known that so the 80 12 Went to the graveyard awfully early I replaced it with the anthem MX 1120
What? That’s crazy. Not sure I agree with them about the SR8012 being “a custom install product” unless they are referring to your specific situation. I do not own 4ohm speakers but do realize that is more taxing on an AVR. Hopefully you Were able to get a refund since they told you it would be OK to use it with your speakers
Youthman yes full refund. I brought them from Evolution home theater in Atlanta Georgia. At first I brought the Sony STR-ZA5000ES SET UP THE First one after one hour POP. It fried took it back got another one I had to wait a week for it. Ok now I set up the second one and quests what happen.? POP it blew. Sony van and will not handle a 4ohm speaker. So then evolution talked me into the Marantz 8020 and then you already know what happen with that. After that receiver they refuse to send me any more for now. I then went to Georgia home theater And went with the anthem MRX 1120 couldn’t be happier
Did you follow Marantz’s instructions of first going into the menu and setting the receiver to 4 Ohms before connecting your speakers? If not, no fault of the Marantz manuals.marantz.com/SR8012/EU/en/DRDZSYrhoargxb.php
Can this receiver get sound without distortion above the reference level? I'm not use above reference but would like a larger headroom. And what make's you choose marantz?
I would think that depends on how efficient your speakers are. If you have low efficient speakers and have 11 speakers you are trying to power with it, it is going to have a much more difficult time going above reference than say my Klipsch LaScalas that will hit 104dB with 1 watt @ 1 meter. I chose the Marantz for my setup for several reasons. Built in Airplay, AURO-3D, easier room calibration, sounds fantastic and less expensive. The Anthem MRX1120 is an incredible unit as well but has a much higher learning curve and you have to use a laptop to calibrate. No AURO-3D or Airplay. I feel the Anthem is designed for someone that loves tweaking their system and diving deep into curves and other settings. I myself prefer a simpler calibration process and make a few small tweaks in the crossovers and levels and call it a day. You really can't go wrong with either receiver.
That’s a great analogy Youthman. Many people like to set it and forget it for the most part. Not everybody is comfortable hooking up a laptop and going deep sea diving.
I heard the 8012 should be recieving a firmware update for IMAX sometime in early 2019, and that the newer models will just have it first, but not exclusively.
I preferred the SR8012 for a few reasons, AirPlay, Auro3D, doesn’t require a computer to calibrate, was $500 cheaper and the biggest thing, it provides MUCH better bass response in my setup. The 1120 sucked the life out of the bass in my room. I even sent the ARC file to anthem and they made some modifications. It was a little better but still was no comparisons what I was getting with the SE8012. I still think it’s a fantastic unit, it just was not a good fit for my set up
Hi, great video. I'm from Portugal and no one can tell me if marantz or denon 6400 can process all 11.2 channel. 11 channels + 1 subwoofer + 1 voice of god ( pre out sub 2) connect an other amplifier. The configuracion of 7.1channels + 4 hights + 1 VOG. If you can help i really appreciate.
Hi PP Q, check out my friend Channas video on how to setup Auro-3D - czcams.com/video/tqFmsdaAFMg/video.html You will need to get 5 height channels setup like in the video. Then you should be good to go. Also you will need to setup height channels as front and rear to have all three audio decodings work.
There is also something to be said about the multi-room capabilities of this system. You can easily run a 2 channel (or more) set up in a separate part of your house and have all the processing and application done with this receiver. With a wifi connected harmony remote or an Alexa skill, you don't have to be anywhere near the processor to control a whole separate system in another room in your house. Outdoor system? Living Room? Bedroom? You need only place the speakers and run wire. You don't have to maintain any additional audio equipment. It can run separate inputs to separate outputs simultaneously. Honestly, a processor like this is only limited by your imagination. This is an investment piece. 11.2 channels of processing, supported with software updates, and preamp outputs for all channels. You can easily use this to power moderate and even some large speakers. As you upgrade, integrating external amplifiers becomes a breeze.
This kind of answers my question thanks. I plan on this unit with a speaker system of smaller budget that can later be swapped out. I figured 2 subs and 9 identical speakers that are smaller but in budget and later down the road upgrading speakers. I think that is correct as I understand.
Ok so i think what im going to do for my upgrade from yamaha 2070 is to go for the marantz sr8012, still using my primare a32 to drive my mains and the sr8012 for centre and rears and height speakers when installed and then make the judgment on whether i need external amp for more power, and it still works out cheaper than going seperates
Yeah Steven, I considered going with separates but it would have cost me twice as much. I love the SR8012. Sounds fantastic with my Klipsch setup. If you use the affiliate link in the description, it would be greatly appreciated.
I ended up going with the Marantz SR8012 for my setup. The MRX1120 might have slightly better channel separation but there were several things that it was lacking for my needs. The SR8012 has Auro-3D, Airplay, doens't require a computer to calibrate, had better bass management in my room and cost $500 less. For my setup, I felt I would have paid more and got less with the MRX1120. Both are fantastic units though.
Youthman, please how do you compare Yamaha receivers and marantz recievers.incase if i want to upgrade in the future.i like listening to music and movies.my current receiver is Yamaha RX2080
I once had a Yamaha RX-V180. It sounded great for 5.1 but as soon as I went to 7.1, it sounded anemic. I later found bench testing that showed it went from 130 wpc with 2ch driven but only 55 wpc with 7. The SR8012 has a massive teroidal power supply
It depends on your speakers. If they have high sensitivity like my LaScalas (1”4dB), you likely won’t benefit from adding an amp. If your speakers are atmround 90dB sensitive, you likely would benefit from adding an amp
Possibly, I would have to look up the specs on it. Marantz is thought by many to have higher quality components and it has been said that Marantz Receivers “get the music chip”. Denon does offer a great product as well.
The Marantz SR8012 is $3000 and comes with a FREE Klipsch Subwoofer - amzn.to/2pIfZpC. The Denon 8500 is $4000 with no subwoofer - amzn.to/2PnVg5V So what do you get for the extra $1000? I only see three differences: 1. Denon has 10 more watts / ch (it takes twice the power to gain 3dB so you will never hear the difference in the extra 10 watts/ch). 2. Denon has 2 extra channels (13 vs 11). Do you need the extra channels? 3. Denon has HDMI 2.1 support. I feel the Marantz is a much better bargain than the Denon unless you need the extra 2 channels and / or 2.1 support for the higher 8k60 and 4k120 frame rates. 8k is still a LONG way off before it becomes remotely affordable. I figure by the time 8k is affordable in 4-5 years, I'll be ready to upgrade from my SR8012. Does that help?
Ok I have a dilemma I have two SVS PB12-NSD my room is small I was placing them up front the only place I have to put them our do I up grade to larger Subwoofer
Awesome review! If I'm looking for a receiver to process a 7.2.4+Auro 3D setup and want to use the Parasound A52+ to power most of it. Is the Marantz 8012 overkill for this? Is there better (cost effective) AV processor that can take care of the core processing and power the Atmos speakers while the amp powers the fronts and surrounds?
Hi Rob, what speakers are you running? I recently reviewed the A52+ and didn't feel a need for it in my Klipsch setup as I didn't hear any different with and without the amp. If you are looking for cost effective option, last month I reviewed the Denon AVR-X6400H and it performed very well. It's currently on sale for $1500 and was $2200 just 4 weeks ago when I reviewed it. You can see it here - amzn.to/2ICivGx I would also recommend getting the AC Infinity T10 Fan - amzn.to/2xXisBo as the 6400 gets REALLY hot. Here is my Unboxing / Overview of the 6400 - czcams.com/video/lWK9vpTI0m4/video.html Here is my Review of the 6400 - czcams.com/video/nRdd4OcovAY/video.html Let me know if that helps, Michael
@@Youthman oh yeah, speakers. Thinking of running the SVS Ultra bookshelves for my FR+FL, Ultra Center, 4 Prime Elevations for the Atmos, and either a pair of Prime Elevations or Ultra Surrounds for the SR+SL. I have the SVS SB-16 Ultra holding the fort on the low end.
That’s a fantastic system! Can I provide you with SVS affiliate links for those speakers? If you use those when you order, SVS will give me a small commission for referring you. Same cost to you
Rob K I would try without extra amp first. I had BW CM1 and 4400H Denon was nice but was not a wow then I upgraded all my speakers to Paradigm. That was huge difference, also small jump from 88 to 92 sensitivity was actually huge. Now I am in a A dilemma because I have 11 speakers 9 channel amp and trying to figure out if should get a XPA-11 or just add a front stage like Parasound 31. In back of my mind I wish I had a 8012 or 6500/8500 instead and not even bother with amps. Stalled for now. I’ve unplugged the front stage and listen to what actual surround is being delivered in 7.1.4 even a reasonable loud volume and I don’t think it’s truly need application in non-fronts at least from my speakers in my set up. And the only reason why think I do is because I have Persona floor standers will be adding a massive Persona center who has maximum of almost 500 W but at 93 sensitivity again it’s mostly not going to be heard in my setup.
Got my SR8012 Friday afternoon and was up all nite going through the settings fine tuning it , its one thing to see it online but to have it right in front of you in all of its glory! OMG! this thing rocks! Ramen noodles for the next few months will be well worth the sacrifice! LOL
Told ya! I love mine. It’s got everything I need in a receiver
Thank you Kyle.
Great work again man! Love the aesthetic design. Love all the inputs, and that back panel layout. Great function features, very versatile, and it looks to have a great build quality.
I agree on all accounts. Marantz put together a sweet package in the 8012
My came in this week! I cant wait to hook it up. Waiting for a few more speakers to arrive before I install everything. So excited
Oh yeah! Congratulations!
What an amazing machine! I had the honor to get to see one in real life at the X-Fi audio show in the Dutch city of Eindhoven, 10 saus ago. It's really a monster receiver.
That’s awesome Frank.
Thanks for your time and your help I decided to return the Denon 6500H and because of the sensitivity of my SVS Ulrta speakers @ 87db I am going to keep. my Emotiva XPA -5 Gen 3 and I purchased today at a reduced price the Marantz SR8012 this will work for my theatre room and will replace Onkyo TX 646 with the
Denon 4400H It all ready set up for 7.1 just have add 4 ceiling speakers in my family room
The Boom Boom Room is coming soon
Mercy Mercy
@@Youthman all good brother!
Thanks again.
Thank you Michael.
Wow! It’s cool to see how your setup has evolved over time.
It's an 11ch AVR also but with Class D amplification (brought to the Onkyo AVR family after acquiring the Pioneer's home theater entertainment business);
If the RZ1100 (class D also) can drive seven channels continuously into 8-ohm loads @ 0.1% distortion @ 103.2 watts the RZ3100 unit can muster a bit more power, perhaps 110 watts at the same conditions;
However, the Marantz SR7011 "can only" output 75.1 watts @ the same conditions; And the SR8012 can output 86 watts at the same conditions;
Class D can be more dynamic on the lower end of the audio spectrum.
I would not add an amp to those speakers.
I love it! Marantz user here! Thanks for sharing!
Awesome! Which model do you have in your setup?
Marantz has always been quoted “to have the music chip”
When do you listening in stereo for music do you bypass auddessy? I mean do you pick L/R bypass and if you do , do you hear a volume drop off? Or stays at the same level?
@@lyispineda3340 Hi It is, I find it best to use pure direct.
Cheers.
Great looking unit I had a old marantz and loved it
Thanks John
Man I justcfound your channel , Im glad I did , your into equip. as much as i am. great vid ,full of good information.
Thank you Allan. Welcome to the Youthman Crew!
Let me know how you like Atmos after you get them installed. What speakers are you getting for Atmos?
I had a limited budget and so I got 4 of these Yamaha NSIC800WH 140-Watts (8"). I thought since they were mainly for surround effects, it would not make sense to spend much more. I'm curious how Atmos is. Will post an update after I cross that bridge.
Very cool. Let me know how you like them
Great review, how it sounds in terms of clear sound, clarity, is it crystal clear? I have an Onkyio and I am thinking in change to Marantz.
Another Great review Youthman. I think im sold on this receiver. Keep em coming.
Thank you Billy. If you do end up purchasing the 8012 and use this link amzn.to/2QtdlPZ or the one in the description of my video, I would be grateful.
Michael
Sure will Youthman.
Thanks Billy
Nice Review ,u have said all important points for the people who r planning to buy it. Great 👍💐💐💐
Thank you Rajith
Good video YouthMan!
Thank you Dave
Great video bro. Keep up the good work.
Thank you Rob
Omgosh would this be an amazing piece of work to have!
It has served my system quite well.
Great review
Thank you Jake
Great review ...good job...Marantz best forever ..
Thank you kindly
Nice review. I've been looking at the market for a receiver. Need to hook it up with oled tv. The sr8012 is looking good. Good job.
With the new Marantz SR8015 receiver releasing soon, we should see the SR8012 discounted
Alright! I was on the fence about the SR7012 but you pushed me over. Thanks for the link its time to order.
I found one local here in Vegas, heading out to get it now
Awesome Scotty. Let me know how you like it after you’ve had some time with it.
Are you picking up the 7012 or the 8012 for your system?
I picked up the SR7012. Unfortunately I did it just before I had to leave on a work trip so it will be a bit before I can get it set up. Once I do I will let you know my thoughts. I am sure it will work well with my RF7 IIs and my RC64 II. Not sure what speakers I will be using for the rest of the set up but for now i will most likely just do a 5.2 then add to it later.
Very cool. Congrats!
Most people have cell phones which aren't listed in a phone book. So I agree with you. Rainman is the only one I know of to read a phone book on the potty. Anyway, found a cool dude on eBay to sell me a hard copy manual. I love this receiver!
Great review.
Thanks
Great video!!!
Thank you kindly
Yes they have an app but I haven’t used it since I am using a Harmony Elite and can control the unit through my phone with it
I like the look Marantz receiver 😉👌
Me too!
Another great video 👌👍
Thanks Nelson. Hope you are doing well my friend
@@Youthman I'm doing great but once this year ends I'll be a lot better if you know what I mean I don't want to put my business out here on CZcams

Does this receiver get hot like other Marantz & Denon receivers?
Hey man!
You are a heman for me...
I'm planning to buy one, just bcoz ua using one..
Love your “man cave!”
Larry
Hi Larry, my Klipsch LaScalas are rates at 100 rms / 500 peak. If your speakers start to clip, you will get them pretty quickly.
This will be my next receiver, once I finally go up to 4k/HDR.
How is this receiver as far as heat output? Great video by the way. The heat and reliability aspect are what are swaying my decision. I would only need it for a 7.2 channel movie processing. I dont use it for music.
It gets HOT, very HOT.
It does get very hot, as does the Denon 6400 and a lot of other receivers. If you have a big amplifier, you are going to have heat.
When they give the output rating isn’t it for just two channels driven?
Another great review! I jumped on the SR7012 for $1199. I've got an Outlaw 5000 which I'll be using to drive the L/C/R and one pair of the rear heights for a 7.2.4 setup. I just could not justify paying that much more for the 8012, though it was tempting.
Thank you kindly.
There you go!
The 8012 only supports 4 Height channels. Awesome setup! How do you like your JVC? I’ve always heard great things about them
Hi there Youthman.
Thanks Dave. I’ll wait till they come down to around $3000 before I get one.
Thanks for the great review!
What would you choose for movies? Marantz, Denon, Yamaha, or Pioneer?
I have not owned a Pioneer and I’ve wonky owned a Yamaha many years ago. Denon and Marantz both make great units. I chose Marantz for my setup
@@Youthman Thanks for the advice :)
Can I use this to drive a small 4-6 speaker viewing area , and run a separate audio source to the other speakers? I have a large covered outdoor deck area. I'd like to drive the tv area and play music in the other zone all with this unit. Will it do this?
Absolutely. I used it to power 11 speakers and it was incredible.
Well I have 3 elac uni-fi towers has my front sound stage so guess I will need an external amp for does.
I went with the Marantz SR8012 and live it. I have since upgraded to separates (Marantz AV7705) and will be selling my SR8012 in the near future.
Hi i am from india. Sir which is best denon or marantz.
Hi guys is anyone able to advise me on how to connect my NAD M2 digital amplifier to my marantz 8012 thanks
Review, Yamaha advantage 3080 please
As far as these reviews in the future, it would be really great if you could measure the power draw of the amp, this particular amp, for example, looks like it would draw a lot of electricity. It would be great to have comparisons with other amps/receivers in regards to its power draw.
I appreciate the suggestion but to be honest, I don’t see myself getting into that type of measurements. Gene with Audioholics however has a lot more testing equipment and knowledge of how to do it. You might want to ask him if he does that on his channel. Thanks for watching!
Ok, no worries.
Nice review man.
Thank you Jarod
You bet Youthman.
Have a great weekend Jarod
Thanks pal you as well.
I was just wandering if the Sr8012 will get the 2.1 update . I have seen that it possibly will but do you have any more info on this and if so how will it work. Thanks again Youthman.
Hi Billy, I haven't heard any specifics so I Googled it - www.soundandvision.com/content/marantz-unleashes-hdmi-21-upgradeable-flagship
Not the same model but unless things have changed, it might be a long way off and require hardware updates at an additional cost. Guess it's not something they can do with just a firmware update.
@Youthman i have a question, What exactly do you need for IMAX Enhanced aside from the 8012, do you need an imax enhanced TV or just standard 4K HDR, Thanks alot
This article should help- www.techradar.com/news/imax-enhanced-an-inside-look-at-the-new-standard-heading-to-home-theaters
I personally am not too excited about it.
Great marantz
I agree. Love it!
I was looking at the SR8100 real hard just picked up the Denon SR 6500H I am hooking up to the Emotiva XPA-5 GEN 3 still working on my media room. I can’t wait like to send some pictures
Congrats Tony! The Denon should serve you well. The 6400 gets extremely hot so you might want to use a fan on it
I purchased intake and exhaust fans for the rack system hoping the 6500 will not have to work to hard, Emotiva to carry the load LCR and surrounds channels
There you go. I’ll likely buy the Aircom T9
Correct me if I’m wrong, but can’t you also run the height channels with an external amp? Which will allow you to do a 9.1.4?
I don’t believe so because it has 11 channels of processing. You would need a 13ch Receiver for that
Sounds like it isn’t lacking anything, at least for my needs.
Yeah I do wish brands would use the same wpc metrics when they rate their power but it’s always been like that. Plenty of power for my system though.
Youthman Well, you do have Klipsch speakers. :)
Companies are good at spinning statistics to make their product sound better than it actually is.
Yes the efficiency of my Klipsch speakers are awesome. 104dB with my LaScalas.
Nice review! Do you calibrate Audyssey full range or just below the transition frequency of between 300-500hz?
I don’t remember it giving me the option of choosing like it does with the Anthem. How would I check or change that?
You would have to purchase the Audyssey MultEQ app from Google Play store or Apple Store. This app allows you to tweak the target curve, room correction to define frequency and more.
Gotcha. I will be purchasing it as I want to see what it offers compared to Anthem’s ARC
I look forward to your comparison :)
Thanks Michael
This video I share my thoughts on the 7705 - czcams.com/video/ErStkTa94wM/video.html
What a beast
I agree Charles!
Why did you choose this over the Anthem? I'm torn between this and the anthem myself. Going to pull the trigger tomorrow or Friday.
Hi Sean there were several reasons why I preferred the Marantz SR8012 over the Anthem MRX1120 for my setup.
1) Airplay
2) Auro-3D processing
3) Doesn’t require a computer to calibrate
4) Cost $500 less
5) Had MUCH more tactile bass.
The lascalas?
Yes my LaScalas are floorstanding speakers that are directly behind my 150” screen.
The SR 8012 can it handel the RF7III and rc 64III for front and for de back the RP 504s ?
For sure. Those speakers are very efficient so it will have no problem driving them to reference levels. Mine is powering my (3) Klipsch LaScalas, (4) Klipsch RS62 II and (4) CDT-5800-C In-Ceiling to Reference Levels with no problem
If you buy them using my Amazon Affiliate Links in the description, I would be grateful.
What is a good receiver I can hook 3 klipsch 115sw subwoofers to along with my front and center speakers and everything
Hi Marshall, a lot depends on your budget. How many total speakers will you eventually want to connect to it?
Thanks a lot
looking to upgrade soon.mine very outdated from 2004 but still is great.should i wait for hdmi 2.1 to hit the receivers..when will that happen?
Technology will always be advancing. Once 2.1 is out, 2.2 will be just around the corner.
@@Youthman I waited this long ,should I at least wait for 2.1 .my tv has 2.1
Ok need help Denon 6400H replaced with NEW Denon 6500 with Emotiva XPA-5 Gen3 @ 250 watts per channel but I started reading reviews on Marantz SR8012 I am running SVS ultra bookshelf’s, center, surrounds and rear surrounds SVS elevations and two SVS PB12-NSD subwoofers in the ceiling 4 Polk rc80i
Hi Tony, I love my Marantz SR8012. It works fantastic for my setup and I don't feel the need for an amp. But my front three Klipsch LaScalas are 104dB sensitive vs 87dB for your SVS Ultra Bookshelf speakers which means it will take a lot more power to drive them than my LaScalas. It takes twice the power to gain 3dB in volume
1 watt = 87dB
2 watts = 90dB
4 watts = 93dB
8 watts = 96dB
16 watts = 99dB
32 watts = 102dB
64 watts = 105dB
With my LaScalas, it only takes 1 watt to hit 104dB.
So more than a year later are you still rocking this receiver? Any additional feedback since this video was made? Thanks!
Still an amazing receiver but I later upgraded from a receiver to separates (Marantz AV7705 and Monolith 11X)
For what I just saw it seems the same as the 6400. Except the 6400 is $1500 cheaper.
Better amp section, build quality and more musical. Features will be pretty much the same. The 6400 is a great unit. I wouldn’t see a need to upgrade to the Marantz since you have already bought the Denon.
In terms of music and movie sound quality, how would you rate the Marantz SR8012 against the Anthem MRX1120?
Both sounded great. I preferred the Marantz SR8012. The Anthem sucked the life out of the LFE
@@Youthman Thanks
Any word on long term reliability? Really important to me. Currently running Onkyo tx-nr 5009 since 2011. Running 2 Krell TAS for amplification.
Oh I agree you get a lot more bang for your buck with Onkyo, Denon and Marantz
I originally purchased the 8012 to power 4ohm speakers axiom m100 rear Surround speakers as well as two definitive technology side speakers Dolby Atmos ceiling speakers. As well as a Vandersteen center The 2 front mains I am using axiom m100 using a Rotel mk1582 ll 2 channel 200 watts rms .
Marantz stated that the 8012 can handle a 4ohm speakers
I spoke with tech support to make sure that in fact it will Handel a 4 ohm load “yes it can”
So I set everything up, turned on the power and WOW WOW WOW. The sound was somethings .
Then about 2 hours in POP smell the 8012 fried.
When I called tech support they said I needed to input a special code so the 8012 can Handel the 4 ohm speakers. They also stated that the 8012 is really a custom install product and they recommend technicians come to install it they still would’ve had to and put the special code but they would’ve known that so the 80 12
Went to the graveyard awfully early I replaced it with the anthem MX 1120
If not, no fault of the Marantz
manuals.marantz.com/SR8012/EU/en/DRDZSYrhoargxb.php
Exactly. I’m the set it, make a few minor changes and forget it kind of guy
Imax Enhanced? I thought that this unit would not receive it but the 8500h would. Please confirm this
I heard the 8012 should be recieving a firmware update for IMAX sometime in early 2019, and that the newer models will just have it first, but not exclusively.
Yes the SR8012 is scheduled for Jan 2019 - marantz-uk.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/6741/~/imax-enhanced
How does this compare to the Anthem 1120?
Hi PP Q, check out my friend Channas video on how to setup Auro-3D - czcams.com/video/tqFmsdaAFMg/video.html
You will need to get 5 height channels setup like in the video.
Youthman
Im in perth west australia youthman otherwise i would, i'll see my local dealer to get a good discount on retail...he always looks after me
Hello from the US! Would love to visit Australia someday 😀
I have the sr7012 and I LOVE IT! I have external amps for 11.2 so I just use mine as a PRE-Pro
There you go! Best of both worlds
What size is your room my room is only 11’0” X 16’0 ceiling 10’0” slope down on last 2’0” down to 8’0” screen end edgeless 125”
Hi Tony, my room is 13’ x 19’ with 10’ ceiling. Screen is 12.5’ Wide and 150” diagonal
Hey youthman! Which receiver has better surround sound immersive ness? The Marantz SR8012 or the Anthem MRX1120?
I ended up going with the Marantz SR8012 for my setup. The MRX1120 might have slightly better channel separation but there were several things that it was lacking for my needs. The SR8012 has Auro-3D, Airplay, doens't require a computer to calibrate, had better bass management in my room and cost $500 less. For my setup, I felt I would have paid more and got less with the MRX1120. Both are fantastic units though.
Youthman thanks for your input..
You should review the Yamaha RX-a3080
Youthman, please how do you compare Yamaha receivers and marantz recievers.incase if i want to upgrade in the future.i like listening to music and movies.my current receiver is Yamaha RX2080
Thanks youthman,so is good to add separate amp to the Yamaha for now
It depends on your speakers. If they have high sensitivity like my LaScalas (1”4dB), you likely won’t benefit from adding an amp. If your speakers are atmround 90dB sensitive, you likely would benefit from adding an amp
Youthman thanks soo much
Hi:Youthman Great Information. So the Denon Flagship AVR-8500H should be about the same as it’s there sister company?
Possibly, I would have to look up the specs on it. Marantz is thought by many to have higher quality components and it has been said that Marantz Receivers “get the music chip”. Denon does offer a great product as well.
The Marantz SR8012 is $3000 and comes with a FREE Klipsch Subwoofer - amzn.to/2pIfZpC.
The Denon 8500 is $4000 with no subwoofer - amzn.to/2PnVg5V
So what do you get for the extra $1000? I only see three differences:
I found a great Deal on the Denon X8500H. Any chance you look at one with setup and specs?
With the Definitive Technology Bp 9080 CS 9060 got my front set up.
What is the music Chip?
I wonder how the sr8012 compared to the av7705 sq wise?
Not sure
I picked up cloudplate T7 model Al-CP2L Exhaust couldplate T7-N Al-CP2H intake fans
Very cool. Looks like you have a rack for your gear. Nice!
Ok I have a dilemma I have two SVS PB12-NSD my room is small I was placing them up front the only place I have to put them our do I up grade to larger Subwoofer
What’s wrong with having them up front?
You can see it here - amzn.to/2ICivGx
I would also recommend getting the AC Infinity T10 Fan - amzn.to/2xXisBo as the 6400 gets REALLY hot.

Let me know if that helps,

@@Youthman oh yeah, speakers. Thinking of running the SVS Ultra bookshelves for my FR+FL, Ultra Center, 4 Prime Elevations for the Atmos, and either a pair of Prime Elevations or Ultra Surrounds for the SR+SL. I have the SVS SB-16 Ultra holding the fort on the low end.
That’s a fantastic system! Can I provide you with SVS affiliate links for those speakers? If you use those when you order, SVS will give me a small commission for referring you. Same cost to you
@@Youthman knowing the setup now, still recommend the same things?
