Honestly a solid game by the leafs! Great Defence by Beniot/Laggesson/Mccabe and exactly the kind of Defence we need if we are going into the playoffs with this core! Also Big ups to Jones for his first full game
The second period wasn't good though. Not just the goals against but the number of shots allowed.
The fact they did this with Jones in net and didn’t let a 4-3 score phase them.. against the rangers nonetheless in MSG.. gutsy performance by the leafs to say the least

Matthews and McCabe were the stars tonight. McCabe just deflated the Rangers in the third and it was just a beautiful thing to watch. Reminiscent of Todd Gill, Wendel Clark and Darcy Tucker. Getting hits in when they are sorely needed.

This is why I like Nylander and Matthews together. You let Nylander dance, find some open space, then slide it over to Matthews pure finisher.
Jonesy looked solid in net tonight, made some big saves that really held us in there 👏
I'm definitely not convinced yet. He was out of position or too far out a number of times tonight.

I nearly had the classic "leafs heart attack" after period 2... but luckily it didn't end that way
Man this was a real statement win for the leafs. Down a first line forward, half the D core is hurt, third string goalie is playing and besides the second period clobbered one of the best teams in the nhl

I can't believe this leafs team.. what an amazing team they have become. I lived in Toronto for almost 30 years and remember the days of Courtnall, Iafrate, Salming, Clarke, Domi, and the rest of them... The struggle they went through during those days was heartbreaking, I moved to the U.K. 12 years ago and am so happy to see them doing so good.

Back in days that you mentioned I used to love watching the leafs but I can't seem to watch them anymore. They have blown leads way too often. Every year it is a hopeful run for them until the playoffs. Every season people say it's their season to win but it never is. Even predictions say it's their season but it never is. If only they could bring back them good ole days 😂 Las Vegas Golden Knights. Now that's a solid well put together hockey club👍

One of my favourite things about having the highlights be from the opposing team is you get commentators saying "what a play" like at 3:36. You don't get that on the Sportsnet feed because they aren't allowed to complement them on their own game feeds 🙃

@@BigDG80 .902 save percentage, allowed 6 goals in this game and is 25th in the league for goalies who played at least 10 games this season. So yeah, pretty average if you ask me, certainly not great. Quick is at .922, 5th in the league.
I haven't taken the time to look at league stats lately, so honestly I'm surprised he is even doing that good. I guess when we're used to seeing a brick wall, average sorta feels like Swiss cheese.

Leafs put a Savage beating on the Rangers who were rested while the Maple Leafs were playing back to back games...What was most impressive was the Leafs TROUNCED the Rangers tonight with 4 non regular Defenceman in their lineup & an AHL goalie guarding their goal...
Jones isn't really a AHL goalie though. He's an NHL vet. He'll probably start more games than Samsonov while Woll is out.

I think it's about systems. The Isle are tighter stay at home offense. Rangers seem more run and gun like us. That spreads guys out. Somehow, we out skilled them tonight. I could be wrong.

The problem is Quick is excelling because of his limited starts. If he gets #1 minutes he may start to break down due to his age and injury history.

Its time to stop making excuses for Igor. Something isn't right. Idk if its an injury or something at home, but he is far from the top of his game. It doesn't help that the defense collapses around him twice as much as they do with Quick. He's still gotta come up with the big saves. If he keeps playing like this his GAA is gonna be 4-5. Whatever is going on with him needs to be figured out quickly if we're gonna have any chance of winning the cup this year. And if they can't get it figured out then they're gonna have to bump Quick up to #1.
I was saying that tonight. I'm a Leafs fan and don't pay alot of attention to the Rangers but after the 4th goal, I knew something wasn't right. That's not the goalie that I've seen and heard about. Something is definitely not right with him. I hope he gets back to his old self. He's too good to be playing like that and it definitely wasn't the team in front of him tonight as they played well.

What was Joe M, the commentator talking about when he said "No wonder Peter Laviolette was upset," on the fifth Leaf goal? I watched it over three or four times but couldn't see anything. Did any of y'all see what he's talking about?
It’s because the penalty itself was a soft call in the first place… Leafs player trips himself on the turned around Rangers player and it’s just another example of Rangers being screwed over by the refs. It’s just annoying when Sebastian Aho can go knee on knee with Adam Fox leaving him out for a month but the Rangers consistently get these ghost penalty calls.
Leafs are now 60-4-5 when Marner and Matthews score in the same game. Ridiculous!

The Leafs are missing 3 of their starting D men, their #1 goalie (Woll), their #3 goalie (Murray) and were playing their 4rth string goalie who has not played much this season; 2nd game of a back to back in the opposing rink of the best team in the NHL.
