Don't use the plastic band nails. I used them n the shank bent. I went with paslode nails that are banded together with paper. The plastic bands push the nail at a different angle.
You actually want your nails to be pressed in about an 1/8" to 3/16" into the lumber so that the wood will naturally partial close around the head of the nail to secure the nail from eventually pulling out due to the wood swelling and contracting with the seasons.
