  • I've always been curious: What happens when you run a plug-in hybrid, which is completely capable of driving on electricity only, out of gasoline. When we arrived home with Volvo's V60 T8 Polestar on fumes, I decided it was time to find out. What you see next, might shock you. But probably not.

We've also run out of gas in a Prius before, and that acted as expected: drove until the battery was depleted. Has anyone else ran a hybrid dry? What about a full EV?

I personally think they fixed the fuel range for the Long range (2022 onwards) models. On the Dutch Volvo forum there is a guy who drove a V60 T8 ‘23 till 0km left with a full battery in ‘hold’ mode. He drove for another 80km (yes, 80km) after the fuel range said 0. His EV range did not deplete. When he fueled up he clocked at 60 liters, which is what they say is the fuel capacity.
Me personally fueled up at 10km left the other day and only got 55 liters. So they are now crazy on the safe side.

I did this test driving an xc60 t8. Chugged on electric almost back to the dealership. They couldn’t gas it roadside because of the fuel tank electronic gates...had to sip it until they could start it enough to open the fuel access. Tricky, and good to know, since i still bought the car

so the batteries will automatically recharge if you do have gas and keep driving?

Electric engine gets shut off and you can drive gas only. Can also regenerate the battery but its not that efficient.

they don't make the v90 in polestar edition. The v60 polestar is still slightly more powerful (not much)

Ahahaha, petrol hybrid engines are so stupid! They make absolutely no sense! You pay so much more for gas compared to a diesel hybrid! Diesel hybrids are the best!

There are no diesel hybrids in the USA.

I think so, small diesel engines are enough, probably 1.5L 3 cylinder diesel, and one can run only on EV mode for PHEV cars which can make the fuel sitting in the tank for months, diesel has longer storage time than petrol, so probably only required to refuel once per year? compared to petrol recommended to refuel every 4 months.

Diesels are too complecated (inhectors, dpfs, egrs etc) better buy hybrid or plug in with petrol

@@IncognitoDriver @wiesenthal3511 nah, diesel hybrids actually help with economy and you can actually really save money with it
