    SpeedVision!! Yes! We had half assed dish TV back in the 90's and had SpeedVision. We used to drink beer and watch all these old classics. Good times.

    Notice the first thing he did was fasten his shoulder belt and lap belt. Back in those days, they were two separate belts. Few people used seat belts, and those that did would not use shoulder belts because of how it was impossible to refold them into the hangers over the door frame. Garner starred in the movie Grand Prix at a time when F1 drivers still preferred to be thrown clear of a wreck rather than risk being trapped in a burning car.

    1970 Olds Cutlass Supreme! My high school car was a 1971 Cutlass Supreme SX with a 455. A big car, but handled well. I miss the classics.😢

      I had the 71 fastback. It was great in a straight line but as this film shows, wollowed badly in a hard corner.
      Compared to the handling in my 2014 sport sedan there is so much more suspension improvement.
      However I still consider my 71 Cutlass to be the best car I've ever had and than includes BMWs, British and Mazda convertible sport cars.

    Too much Bodyroll and skinny tires for sudden jerking turns at speeds like that. Give that Cutlass some Wide Tires, Thick Sway bars and Lowering Springs with more Engine Torque and it will handle better.

      I agree 100%. My father needed just one income for 9 children. His wife stayed home. Then that actor who got more movie parts when braver men left to fight a World War changed our economy from one for the Middle Class to an economy that works great for wealthy people. His policies have been copied by every President (of his Party) ever since, so now the Middle Class has become the working class and they need 2 incomes if they want a family.

    • @arcanondrum6543
      @arcanondrum6543 Před 35 minutami

      Detroit just didn't bother with suspension. Engines. Horsepower. Braking then did not have the same effect it has now (I'm not even referring to ABS). Leaf springs in the back and simple coilovers up front (without front and rear sway bars) is the reality of some (2 ton no less) Detroit metal. I owned a 70 Nova. You could brake or you could turn but doing both at highway speeds was enough to make me shop for cars from overseas until Detroit (sorta) caught up. It was self inflicted loss of sales for quite some time. Passengers are safer now only BECAUSE other car manufacturers cared about handling and safety.

      Tommy must be hoping that James was like him but no, Garner was married to the same woman for his whole life. He raised two daughters, one of them a stepdaughter. Women who worked with Garner loved the guy, in part because he was such a good guy. He served in the Merchant Marines and then in the regular Army in Korea. He earned a Purple Heart. I liked James Garner and the people who worked with him said the same thing.
