Cornelia may not shine in R2 as well as she does in R1, but I think that she's far from bad. I like how she changes due to Euphemia's death just like Suzaku. However, while Suzaku lets Euphemia's death make him go down a destructive path, Cornelia uses it as an opportunity to leave her royal status behind and work on becoming a better place.
Yeah but here’s the thing. We could’ve seen her dark change and development but NO we didn’t. She literally appears in Ep 12 of R2 with only 13 episodes left. We got nothing of Cornelia’s character and what she’s been up to. She just appears and we’re suppose to care and think this matters. Clearly wasted writing
@@MyMediaChops Both points are valid. I think it boiled down to R2 juggling too much at once. But yes, Cornelia was placed more in the sidelines in R2 but what she did during that period I think was a good direction for her.
I know it's easy to blame the writers and director for all bad decisions but as I've gotten older I've learned how little control they have over their work. The network executives had final say on all changes that Cornelia becoming a gentle softie probably was their choice too. It's common knowledge that the creators could do whatever they wanted due to the 3AM time slot but loss that freedom for R2. There are just different values and archetypes in that country. I recently learned that it's a huge no-no for single-parent households to be shown in children's cartoons. It's very possible the execs didn't like a strong authoritative woman who kicked ass and told them to overhaul her.
Besides Shirley, Cornelia might have been the biggest casualty of R2's rushed story. It's absolutely insane how Cornelia got shafted in R2. I do get quite passionate in this video maybe the most in any video. Let me know your thoughts of Cornelia's role in R2.
In all fairness, Cornelias character in R2 is a prime example of R2 as whole: No direction, no ideas. When I watched season 1 I actually thought Cornelia wasn't supposed to survive that final encounter with Lelouch, because of the framing and her been shown to be heavily injured (Plus her KF being completely destroyed), so I was surprised to see her AT ALL in season 2. And yeah, like most stuff from the second half, she was just thrown in because she was a character in the first half. The lack of planning of the writers part showed here the most, because the only character with a very clear endgoal was Lelouch while everyone else pretty much was just tagged along for the ride. Every plot-beat seemed to have been written on the spot from episode to episode and what actuially does happen wasn't designed to continue the plot or character growth, but instead to create just buzz via shocks - AKA Modern Spider-Man writing. This is also why Shirley was "fridged" the way she was, because, according to the writers, it was only done to hurt Lelouch more, even though it literally didn't change anything except make people in the net go spread this "wild event". Them not just doing an FMA broterhood with CGs second season to this day baffles me, because boy howdie does this show need a do-over badly.
It is entirely possible that she wasn't supposed to survive past the Black Rebellion. We already know Jeremiah wasn't supposed to return in season 2 and was brought back due to his popularity, so it is entirely likely that Cornelia returned for R2 in the same vein, but they hadn't planned to use her for much of a major role.
Thank you. Cornelia is my absolute favorite character and those were exactly my thoughts on her (even the one with the back pain). She had a lot of potential. Apart from the whole uniting with Zero thing, I also think it would’ve been interesting to see her turn against Britannia and go up against her father and become empress, though I don’t know how realistic that would be. Still I have to admit, while watching R2 for the first time I was so confused, I wasn’t really sure on which side she was now and what even happened to her after R1, if she was missing or dead and why she didn’t play a more important role. She could’ve been so great, but no they had to use the entire budget for the season to animate her bum.
Nunnally, CC, VV, Charles, Marriane, Schneizel, Todoh, Knights of Round, KNIGHTMARES. Shirley, Tamaki nor the Ashford students don't even need the precious screen time when there are many characters that were more interesting to the whole plot and even expanding the whole Code Geass universe.
I can't say about her knowing all the Geass stuff, but maybe in R2, being captive and experiencing some trauma after Euphy's death made her think for the common folk and those who she oppressed. Not a good representation of this, but it could be an explanation as to her change of heart against Schneizel.
V.V. Was responsible for the massacre, he screwed with Lelouch, when he and C.C. had that mental breakdown at the SAZ, he made his geass go out of control
I think it was worse in Code Geass when compared to Cross Ange but still it's a valid point. At least Double 00 didn't have problem for what I remember
Disagree on Part 2 part I would say its simply Lelouch dosn't want anything with Cornelia since he blame himself for Euphy's death and he believes Cornelia won't even know anything about it its just Lelouch Ego but yeah R2 did Cornelia Dirty i wish we got more anime episode like how they did Akito OVA but from other charecters pov
It still amazes me how people believe that R2 doesn't have any problems and that anyone who complains is just a crying baby. I will never understand why they did it with Cornelia in R2 (It's a lie, I understand it, someone fell in love with this character and it hurt them to have to make her suffer for her to have a redemption, that's why she is sanctified in movie trilogies, in fact to a certain extent the writers don't like the idea of Karma really falling for girls, they even left Marianne's image intact for everyone, at least Cornelia deserved to know the truth so she would stop looking for the one guilty, my god) As much as Code Geass is a good anime, this only confirms that the series really had to be longer, but they decided better to turn the characters into idiots when it was convenient to move the plot quickly, while they put plot twists after plot twists.
Absolutely I enjoy the anime but acknowledge it has problems. Throughout the years they have addressed these issues with the manga, films, and even in Lost Stories. I would love to see the story of Lost Stories in anime form where it takes account all the extended universe that has been released before
I vehemently disagree, I don't think Cornelia's characters were brutalized, sure she was sidelined in R2 but ruined, no. First of all, we need to understand the importance of Clovis and Cornelia's characters in Code Geass, they were the way for Lelouch to get closer to the killers of Marianne, until Lelouch was bamboozled with truth. That is their purpose in the series. Also, Cornelia lost the most precious thing which kept her strong, i.e., Euphy. Euphy was the reason she served Britannia, nothing else. When Euphy died, she was hell bent on taking revenge from Zero until she realized that Lelouch is Zero. She got a gut punch with that and believed it to be her karma for failing not only Euphy but her idol Marianne (She was popular among Charles every child) when she removed her guard and that resulted in her death. She now understands that Lelouch is just like her, fighting Britannia for Nunnaly just like Cornelia fought for Euphy's safety and security. Then eventually she is caught by VV and she came to know about Geass, now that she knows the truth, she no longer blames Lelouch for Euphy's death but the very existence of Geass, hence we saw how she helped Lelouch finish off V.V. She avenged Euphy's death and lost the will to fight because now she simply doesn't care, she is tired of fighting and killing innocents, she realizes her mistakes and doesn't care what Lelouch does, hell if Lelouch didn't start the Zero Requiem, at some point, she would have left Schinzel and served Lelouch but when she saw Lelouch causing so much destruction just like her father Charles did, she joined up with Schinzel because she is traumatized, she just wants all this war and death to stop. So, Cornelia's character was perfectly handled, I will say.
Dude SHE WAS THE MAIN ANTAGONIST OF SEASON 1!!How are you suppose to write her off and make her appear almost half of the season? There is literally no excuse. Again are you telling me her in that outfit is better than character development or backstory. The animators clearly fan service her body to make her more attractive. Again at the end of R2. She acted like an idiot and was betrayed by Schneizel just because she disliked his plan.
