First overnight bikepacking adventure in FOREVER with an AMAZING camping spot, what a view!

- The first bikepacking trip in over a year! The cold winter turned into a cold spring but now that lockdown has been lifted I wanted to get out on an overnight adventure. It was great to be out exploring, the weather was a bit challenging and there were some steep hills to cycle up, but I was rewarded with an amazing camping spot with a view of the sunset that made all the effort worth it.

Great video and channel! If I’m not mistaken this was the day we stopped and said hi to you at the coffee shop in Marlborough. Glad the rest of your adventure turned out well :-)
Hello! Was nice to chat with you, hope you've been able to get out in this warm weather on your bike. It all went very well. I give full credit to the flat white (best I've had in ages) in Marlborough for getting me to the pub! 😀
@@OneLessCar Hey there!! Yes thanks, we've been able to ride a lot lately and will be riding down to Dorset and back in a couple of weeks and then planning a three day bikepacking loop of the King Alfreds Way :-) Stay safe and keep peddling :-)
This was a very nice video.
I completely agree with not bringing unnecessary extras especially when in someplace like England, you will have all amenities within an hour or much less no matter where you are. Unless perhaps it's a Sunday morning and all the local tea shop's and cafe's are closed!
a wool blanket between the sleeping mat and the sleeping bag can help with warmth
Coffee in the morning, especially while camping, is a must! The tent stays home.😋
Turned out to be too chilly for moning coffee, did I mention I drink decaf 😮😀
Hello, my new friend.
Wow, what a beautiful 💞❤💕 bike camping video.
I'm glad to be your great channel friend 💞❤💗
Have a lucky 💕💙💛 day
👍👍👍🤙👌
Great tour, and video, thanks for sharing, you have inspired me to plan my first solo overnighter, but going to wait until the weather forecast is good
This bank holiday weekend looks marvellous - I hope you are making the most of it as I am! Bike-packed ready to go!
Sunday, Monday, Tuesday look amazing weather wise, perfect riding condtions. No overnighters this weekend sadly but there will be riding! Have a great time adventuring in the warm sun 😃
@@OneLessCar thanks. Its been stunning so far!
Back on the bike again after a long break is always a good feeling. Welcome back :) JP the old guy
Thanks! Hopefully this is the start of a summer of lots of exploring by bike 😃
🚴🤠🙃Super👌👌👌(Poland).

💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👍 great video!! Thanks for sharing
Great, thankyou.
Nice trip....!
Nice Tour, the weather is ugly in Germany ,too. Greetings from nürnberg
oh no I'm sorry to hear that you are having bad weather in Germany too. There is some hope for us here in the next couple of days. Hopefully the forcast is right.
Dinner in the pub and breakfast at a coffee shop.
I tend to do that when ever i'm on a bike packing tour.
What i call living off the land 21st century style.
Some call it lazy, i call it smart.
🙌 Add in accommodation and you have credit card touring :) It's what makes travelling by bike so great, there's an option for everyone.
I haven't been out in a tent for ages now. I've never done it by bikepacking but plan to try that one day possibly this summer. It's either a tent or bikecamper. I'm not into coffee so shelter would always come first.
Instant coffee. As David Lynch says, "Any coffee is better than no coffee."
You will be shocked and appaled to learn my coffee is decaf 😮 😂 It's good stuff though. I don't deal well with caffeine on an empty stomach when it's black coffee.
Bicycles, ebikes and escooters are great options for last mile, short distance travel.
Cities need to do more to encourage people to ride bicycles by providing safe, protected bike lanes and trails. Every adult and child should own a bicycle and ride it regularly. Bicycles are healthy exercise and fossil fuels free transportation. Electric bicycles are bringing many older adults back to cycling.
yeah I agree 100%
Beautiful
Un bonito vídeo con bonitas imágenes y grandes experiencias

I was in your country many years ago and I discovered very nice things
I can't believe you guys went on another trip without me. Oh well us old guys can dream. Great to have you back!
I really Like your videos are spectacular. Regards 💯🇲🇽👍
Thank you. Glad you like them!
Gonna have to cheat and say stove AND coffee, but I live in the middle of nowhere in the American Midwest, so when I’m camping out I’m usually a long way from towns. If there was a town near by, I’d go with the tent and get breakfast in town.
Yes it's very different here, especially in the southern parts of England. I could have easily sourced something in less than an hours ride away 😀
Lovely video, especially Canadian ‘knackered’ 😂
😁
just brought a cuba e bike no more fear when you see a hill best buy i have done
Both....tent across the top between the panniers and coffee pot wherever :-)
Capacity wasn't an issue, I have the aeropack that goes on top of the Tailfin 😁 it just seemed crazy to take all that stuff when I drink decaf and there are always cafes an easy ride away around these parts 😁
Amazing video, I loved it! and congratulations on your wonderful channel. Greetings from a new subscriber.
Thanks and welcome!
Lovely!
Truly awesome video beautiful scenery thank you for sharing your ride. Take care.
Thank you. Glad you enjoyed it. It didn't turn out quite as planned due to the weather but plenty of summer left for adventureing and touring. 😊
Coffee and a Marlboro? Breakfast of champions. 😉
Woohoo 🎉 great video! Glad to see you on an adventure. This was exciting, engaging, enthralling, and yet relaxing at the same time (except the hailing storming windy parts that had me hoping for shelter for you). I would also choose the tent over the cook pot and coffee since I’m not a fan of cold, nor cold rain, and it was just just for one night. Those extreme weather changes were a lot to handle - hope there was some wine to go along with that nice hot bath at the end 😉🙂!
Thank you Shelley. The video wasn't quite what I had planned due to the weather so I'm glad to hear you enjoyed it. There was a big mug of tea Nathan had ready for me within 30 seconds of walking in the door (he knows how easily I get cold when wet) ☕ Wine would have knocked me out, I need to build up my stamina still. I think I made the right choice with the tent. It was way too cold and windy to sit outside making coffee in the morning!
Nice setup
Coffey at Any time 😉
Looks like a really great bikepacking trip for sure. Yes I would take the tent over the coffee anytime. Gives an excuse to stop at a local coffee shop and support the local community for sure.
Looks like the camping spots were great. Anyways good video as usual. Keep up the amazing working. Sincerely JR of EWC
It turned out to be too cold to have sat around making coffee outside in the morning anyway so all turned out well. 😃
Wow the UK seems like such a beautiful place to explore! New to cycling and now I want to try an overnight backpacking tour too!!! Would love to know your tips on how to prepare for one inc. items to bring!!!
The UK has such diverse and beautiful landscape and architecture. It would take a lot of miles to even scratch the surface.
I'd planned on answering some questions people sent in via instagram the week before but the weather didn't allow for me to film that. So keep an eye out for the next trip, I'll add your question to the list 😀
Very inspirational - and well done! 👍🇬🇧
Thank you! 🙏
Great well done, Thank you for sharing. Stay happy and healthy. Greetings from Sweden
That camping spot is something out of a gravel bike magazine. I had to grab a screenshot. Very nice! One of these days I’m gonna try bike packing. Thanks for sharing.
It had everything you could ask for. I scouted out a few possible spots but this was my first choice and it was better then I expected! I'll be back one day hopefully on a warmer night!.
looks like a nice little trip, well other than the rain at the end :)
It was so good to be back out on an overnighter! If it's going to be nasty being near home is a good place for it to happen 😊
Very nice. I love a one night camp.
A one night getaway is good for clearing the head but nothing beats getting out for a few months, finding the ryhthm of touring and really living the simple life.
Great ride, enjoyable to watch your biking vlog 👍
Thank you. There's more to come, I have some lovely things planned for the summer 😀
@@OneLessCar Looking forward to your upcoming adventures. I love bikepacking/touring. I rode myself already 5000 miles here in Florida :)
Impressed. A bit early in the year for me to be under canvas. Thank you for sharing your adventure with us
There's usually a warm spell by now but lockdown was lifted and I wanted to make the most of it as last summer was a write off. 😃
@@OneLessCar Thank you for your reply. I love all your videos. You are an inspiration.
Cool adventure 👍🙂 I'm heading next week to Washington DC to ride all those famous trails there, can't wait.
Have a great time, those trails look great!
Sorry to be awkward, but I’d take my lightweight stove for my morning coffee and other cooking requirements AND the tent. It’s all about being comfortable and lightweight for me and you seem to have plenty of room to carry this gear? A nice vid, thank you.
Yes I could have made room for my stove, pot, cup, Aeropress.... but you can always make room for more and more and more. Sometimes you need to prioritize and draw a line. As you saw in the video it was too cold and windy to be hanging around making coffee in the morning (I drink decaf I don't need it to wake up). So for me comfort means getting on the bike and getting warm. 😊
Great video as usual. Can you bungee the tent to the tailfin between the panniers to allow the morning coffee
I could have or I could have put the Tailfin Aeropack on the top, capacity wasn't the real issue. I was trying to keep things minimal as it was only one night. Bringing coffee means a pot, stove, gas canister, mug, coffee and aeropress so it's a lot of extra stuff. It turned out to be the right decision as it was too cold in the morning to sit around drinking coffee (and I drink decaf) 😀
Welcome to Wiltshire! It looks like you picked a great day for it.
Great video! such an amazing camping spot that you found.
Its so funny, I live in Bristol and actually cycle this route out through Pucklechurch and Grittleton to work, but i only heard about this channel after it got a mention from Shifter, who i think is based in Calgary. keep up the cool vids and tours!
Funny how the world works sometimes. I didn't realize I had had a mention on Shifter.
What a load of rubbish the weather has been of late! Hopefully June will bring the sunshine and warmth. Somehow I would have found or made room so that I could have a brew en route. Great video and lovely location.
Next time I'll bring the aeropack on the top of the rack to fit the coffee and stove 😃
P.S. Is there any way that close caption can be included? It really helps us old guys! Thank you!
Autocaptions are created by CZcams but they can take a day or two. So they should be there soon!
Wait! I saw a perfectly good spot to strap your stove onto in between your bags.
What about the cup, pot, Aeropress, coffee? Capacity wasn't the problem I could have added the trunk bag to the rack.... Sometimes you have to draw a line. It was too cold and windy to be hanging around making coffee in the morning so it was the right call. 😊
Dude, i went to the exact same spot! two days ago, in that nasty wind!
It must have been crazy up there! Especially if the wind was coming head on!
@@OneLessCar We had to pack up and leave at around 5 am. Still, it was worth it.
Just stumbled upon thos video and instantly subscribed. Looking forward to more. What a beautiful area to ride. It was 38c here yesterday so 8c sounds kinda nice lol.
And how about chocolate cover espresso beans with your tent?
Thanks for the sub and welcome! We had some 38C riding in Canada in 2016, the last heatdome I believe. I loved it. Keep yourself cool!
The secret is I drink decaf coffee 😀 I'm sure chocolate covered coffee beans would give me heart palpitations, it's a brillant idea though!
I would take the tent coffee can be aquired on the road
Could you strap the tent to the rack, appears two rails for the alloy vs. versus one blade for carbon, a benefit in my book. Also wondering about the light weight version of panniers vs Ortleib, worth the adder? As Ortleib $160 a pair vs $154 per but heavier and need the adaptor which is $50 so $210 vs $308 and 500 more grams for Ortleib set-up.
I think I would have picked the coffee and stove 😁
Love Avebury too after a visit post lockdown last year! How do you keep your bike secure when sleeping in the tent?
The way I secure my bike varies. When I'm on my own for multiple nights I bring a more substantial lock which means I can go into etc shops and not worry (this trip I just had a "café" type lock). Then at night if there's nothing to lock the bike to I lock the wheel to the frame and attach a part of my tent to the bike.
In this video you can see I tucked part of the bike into one of my tent porches. When Nathan and I travel together we lock the bikes to each other (our locks chain together) to make them awkward. I alway like the bikes to be in sight when I look out of the tent (in case I get paranoid 😁).
Wait, you went by yourself! Knowing that I was really sad I didn't get invited. (I wrote my comments and gave you a like before I watch eat video). Oh well, I probably couldn't have made the hills anyway. You've done well to keep your fitness with your busy schedule. Take care.
Great video as usual! Looked liked some lovely houses and views did you use your trimm for the trip? 👍😃
Aren't the houses AMAZING! There are so many beautiful houses in the UK. I did use the TrimmOne, it's nice not to worry about the battery running out. I had 94% when I got home (using the solar charger) not bad!
What’s the overall load on the bike when riding on it
Great video. Do you have the route to share please?
You can see them on strava. Here's day 1 www.strava.com/activities/5344775691
Where is your handlebar bag from please? 😄
It's a Chrome Industries. I love it! It's fully waterproof so I don't have to worry about my camera getting wet. I thought it might be too square but love how it looks on my bike. bit.ly/chromeIndustriesX
If you are using a tailfin, where do you get them?
From Tailfin 😀 www.tailfin.cc/
Tent, stove and coffee as it’s critical. So repack me thinks.
😂I could of added more capacity but I was keeping strict with the lightweight since it was only a one nighter. Turned out it would have been too cold to brew the coffee anyway.
Don't camp under trees, if it rains in the night the run off will last for hours.
Last comment I promise. You stopped the video too soon!!
Fancy feast alcohol stove, an ounce of fuel and coffee, all packed inside a mug. You really can have coffee and a tent.
Both or nothing
