This was a huge upgrade to the 3910 !!! It uses Denons "Advanced AL24 processing plus" and not the standard"AL24 processing". This unit largy was fitted with pretty much everything from its bigger brother A1XVA and it was actually more technically advanced .The 3930 was very highly regarded at the time . The serial number Denon uses the first 3 digits for all its equipment at the time to depict the month and year. So that was 606 so that meant 6 for the year 06 for the month so June 2006 .
Denon 3rd generation link now thats a pretty big deal at that time ...this meant using a CAT5 or CAT6 network cable which would transfer both PCM and RAW bitstream DSD signals and uncompressed to a compatible Denon AV AMP that would be AVR-3805,3806,4306,4308,A1XV ,A1HD pretty much all models from 2001 to around 2011 .Their was a 4th Generation link which would then transfer Dolby True HD and DTS - HD Master then by 2012 Denon changed the format to using HDMI Cable and a Digital Coax cable to lock in both digital clocks from AV AMP and Player to even lower jitter .
So yes Denon were on top top advanced form throughout that particular period basically anything from late late 1990's to around 2011 was their finest period . I know all this as I'm a huge D&M Fan .I also own 3910 and 3930. Yep alot of the gear back then was over engineered and built to very high quality of standards but 15 or so years later still going .
You could also update the software on those machines using CDs and downloaded the ISO files .I still have the software updates for both 3910 and 3930 .3910 had overheating problems and yes laser failures with the 3930 Denon definitely tried very hard to eliminate those issues which they did .btw the quality of the 2-Channal internal Burr-brown DACS on the 3930 are insanely first rate for CD playback!

I have a 3910 purchased off ebay, it worked great till one night watching a movie and the audio suddenly went silent (picture ok), after testing with an external dac it turns out that both digital outputs (coax/optical) have failed, keep checking ebay for a cheap "parts-only" player that I can (hopefully) use to fix it or maybe I'll look for a 3930 instead.

bit of a longshot this but I don't suppose you know where I can get a copy of the firmware for the 3910, I found out how to check the current version on my machine and it appears to be much older than the last one available.

The A1XVA is the 5910 in the US although the US model is unfortunately black instead of the lovely champagne gold.

Wow, what overkill on all those plates and heatsinking...but if it's going to consume 50 watts just to play a CD/DVD, I suppose it's necessary. I guess it's not Energy Star compliant.
Thanks for taking the time to record and post!

Having 3 bottom plates really stumps me. What possible benefit would that provide?

Outstanding job. I'm not a tech, but I enjoy watching your attention to detail. I own this Denon player. It doesn't power up fully. Keep up what you do. Thanks

I picked up a Denon DVD-3800 for free. The unit had a problem with the tray open/close. By the weight of the unit I was convinced it had a large transformer. I finally got around to taking it apart and was surprised at how heavy each piece of the covers were. Mine also has that choppy movement when the tray comes out. The same gear B was beat up just like that 3930. I wonder if that is from the owner pushing the drawer in/out?

Thanks for your time on this unit; that is one well built CD/DVD player there. They don't build them like that anymore.

I do own the pre-HDMI DENON DVD Monster Player. It still got a transformer. I wonder how and why they produce so much heat? I wonder if their output quality is really so much better than the cheap consumer stuff. I wonder why they tend to get problems over the years having this build quality. 🤔

Hi.. Needed help!!! want to use my dvd player as a mirror of my laptop. But I don't have the hdmi input port since it is a playback device. I want remove the dvd reader and add a hdmi port on the same place where the reader tranfered its data to the mother board. So can I do this or not ?
Model: Sony DVP-FX780 7 inch Portable DVD Player ( old version)
Shortly I want to put a hdmi female port instead of the dvd reader FPC.
Or can I get a 50 pin FPC to HDMI converter?👈 Will this work?

I'm sorry but if you open a 17 year old unit and refuse to replace the " belt", you sir have personal issues...after 17 years I'll replace the motor too...what a waste of my time.

@@steven6692 Opening is 10 minutes, finding the right belt and/or motor is days/weeks away, at a price. Your way of working is mostly a good idea, I have done that, but only when you have all the original parts at hand, like the distributor can for every model.
