iDubbbzTV It's funny that the most commonly used word is a 'junk' word, signifying nothing. Think about it, if you remove 'the' from any statement, it wont change its meaning. Hard to fathom the amount of wasted breath...
numbynumb There are no "junk words"; all words in a sentence help to create its meaning. The meaning of 'the' becomes apparent when contrasted with 'a'. 'The' as a definite article signals to the listener that the object or person that is discussed is clearly identifiable and is known to at least the speaker and likely also the hearer. 'A'/'an' in contrast refers to non-particular or non-specific entities.

Ya, I understand that it can convey some information. I wasn't being 100% serious. But, at the same time, having learned a couple of languages that don't use articles, Ive seen that, in practice, implicit context takes care of the distinction in the vast majority of cases.
When iDubbbz comments and barely anyone notices .-.
iDubbbzTV just an idubbbz comment in random video and it is 1 year ago, wow
One word letters.
Oh! These are alphabet letters!
Wheres z?
*Finds z at a tiny lil corner*
dont ever see my videos *0.11%*
I was surprised Z wasn’t higher since even children are able to understand its meaning with little to no prior explanation.
One letter words*
And I'd be concerned if they weren't letters of the alphabet
You zeppelin, you zebra, you belong in a zoo, you zapper, you..... can’t come out with any thing else

It seems like the top winners of each word length were all somewhat related to government... I wonder how many technical bureaucratic things are in Google books?
Vedvart textbooks?
I think this goes to show that, while we might not always agree with them, governments do at the very least do a hell of a lot more work than we give them credit for
@@alexpotts6520 it means it is talked about a lot, bad and good governments are talked about a lot
I may be biased because I am French and our administration is notoriously overtly complex, but it may also be because of said bloating that the usage stats of these words is so inflated.
Wherever there is an administrative procedure, you can be sure that the wording of the paperwork will be so convoluted that some words will be repeated over and over again even though there really should be no reason to
Just as an example, if you have a commission working on "development", you can rest assured that the words "development" will be overused in it, same with other words roughly related to it such as "efficiency", "growth", "industry", "production" etc.
I don't think that these stats are entirely a reflection of how much these words are actually used because of these variables that are going to artificially inflate the numbers
Google Assistant
0:28 " The most common word is "the"."
0:45 "I want you to guess what the most common english word is"
1:22 "It appears that "the" is the most common english word"
Who would have guessed that....
Where in 28 does it say that it says nothing to do with that
It literally says ‘The most common word is “the”’
TotalAtrocity oh i thought he said that
Carykh u should have covered that...
LOL Cary didn't want us to see that

Isn't that word one of the words they needed to spell in the TFI spelling bee?
Joe Art Maker That would be rude, as it has about 3 different spellings that I'm aware of.

I like how gastrointestinal and hypothyroidism are so frequent.
Probably all the quack snake oil books out there all about how [insert fake miracle cure] does all the things lol.

Funny that part of it makes a sentence

I don't know what this 'frequency of English words' you are referring to, I only see Agar.io
lol
If it was agar.io I think “the” would have eaten the lot
"the" probably uses bots
Russians and communists come pretty close together between 0:22 and 0:23
"the" "is" "at" is at the

See what you done here
This is clever
One other neat thing I spotted was that for some of the longer words, two alternative spellings of the same word, with the American English -ize and the British English -ise, both appeared in the top ten

Why are there 2 german words mixed in with the 19-letter words?
1st: "nationalsozialismus"
2nd: "naturwissenschaften"
marco_rennmaus The database just includes all sequences of letters that showed up in the books in Google ngrams database as long as they had over 100,000 appearances, so there's really know restriction on language, except that the books are in English. I guess there were enough English books to mention those words that they topped 100,000.
marco_rennmaus Naturwissenschaften is also an old and still popular biology journal in English, but with a German title.

Great work
why is there "naturwissenschaften" in the 19 letter words? it's german for sciences. do english people use that somewhat frequently?
I just realised it contains "Verlagsgesellschafft" and "nationalsozialismus" aswell.
"Somewhat frequently" loool none of the words in the top 10 19-letter are used frequently at all. And i have never heard that word before
Well there is also a scientific journal by that name so it probably crops up a lot in English language research papers as a citation.

Another cool fact: if a word is at place p, then it will appear 1/p times as often as the most popular word. So 'the' appears 1 times as often as 'the', 'of' one half as often, 'and' one third as often and so forth...
The legend says he is still making part 2
In the article it says the most common word is “the” bruh
i would expect "fuck" or "shit" to be #1 later on

Hilarious and original.
I sexually Identify as an Attack Helicopter. Ever since I was a boy I dreamed of soaring over the oilfields dropping hot sticky loads on disgusting foreigners. People say to me that a person being a helicopter is Impossible and I’m retarded but I don’t care, I’m beautiful. I’m having a plastic surgeon install rotary blades, 30 mm cannons and AMG-114 Hellfire missiles on my body. From now on I want you guys to call me “Apache” and respect my right to kill from above and kill needlessly. If you can’t accept me you’re a heliphobe and need to check your vehicle privilege. Thank you for being so understanding.
Delux Dead meme.
KillTheCow stop it
go on helicopter. jump into the empire state building
can you code an interactive version for us? im sure many of the people here would LOVE to mess around with this. If anyone else wants to do this or knows a website or app which does this, PLEASE tell me
interesting how there seems to be a distribution of frequency inversely relative to the frequency of the word length. Since 5 is the most common length, its occurrences are the most evenly distributed. If you get further away from 5, like 3 and 8, the distribution curve is more curvy. I'm not a statistician, so sorry if my terminology is wrong, but I find this fascinating, especially with the visual way it was presented
In the uk bloody should be on the first place.. its fucking annoying

earned a sub!

Where's part 2?
I was thinking about doing this too!
It's been 5 years but no part two, and why did youtube recommend this?
Why is this in my recommended 5 years later
It's been 4 years dude, still no part2.
This is so helpful for making a language
The source is a great tool for language learning
To conclude, the ‘of’ and ‘to’ in ‘a’ is that for it.

You are Cary. It's not just the voice, which is the fucking same, but also the graphics and your format.
Does anyone which programming language / engine is used to make these? How long does it take? (It obviously can't be animation; that would take years)
can you do one related to osu top players or osu top plays. That would deff be something interesting to watch.
Is this carykh? Man you were one of my idols back in the day
'Part 2 is coming really really soon!' Wat,,, 2 years...
Interesting that the it seems that once you get beyond 5 letters in length, the most common first letter is "C" pretty much until the high teens lenths.
It's been 84 years.
3:35 2nd and 10th are two spelling variations of the same word, and so are 1st and 13th
