    Time to move to some of the open source options like dark table, etc.

      If those work for you then great! Maybe one day I’ll give it a go but for now I’m in Adobe. I’ll never say never. Thanks for watching!

    They need to tread lightly but the signs are all there. Tackle the major features then slowly add the preferential and habitual items. Like the difference btw shortcut keys, they'll eventually add a module where you can re-map your shortcut keys the way you like and at that time you may even say a button that basically "inherits LRC shortcuts" or some generic name that masks its intentions. I see many competitors moving to a subscription plan as well which I didn't like since I would rather upgrade 3-5 years each time and pay a reduced 'upgrade fee'. That ship seemed to have sailed unfortunately. RIP LRC in a couple more years.

      Maybe we will get to hang on to LrC for a bit longer at least. They do need to tackle some of the bigger asks before it’s really viable. Thanks for watching!

    Years ago, New Coke came out. People hated it, and Coke Classic became the preferred choice. Now we just purchase Coke, and I am not sure if it is New Coke or Coke Classic.
    Based on some CZcams videos, I switched to Lightroom desktop. I like the loss of the catalog, replaced with sidecar (xmp) files.
    After only a month, I think I have made the switch to the newer Lightroom Desktop.
    Features which sold me include access to local files, so I am not overpaying for Abode Cloud storage. And when I have a winner photo, uploading that photo to the cloud so I can seamlessly switch between my iPad and my Desktop, as I work on the same file.

      And that’s just it. LR does everything you need so it makes sense for you. Thats groovy! We will continue to see more being added over time so it will only get better.
      Thanks for watching!

    I tried Lightroom once years ago as well, but quickly went back to Classic. It would be understandable for Adobe to only want to develop one program instead of two that are for the same purpose. Since it is all subscription based (and phoning home all the time), I'm sure they are keeping tabs on what everyone is using. Maybe that is why Classic has held on so long.

    • @jasoneldridgephotography
      @jasoneldridgephotography  Před 7 měsíci

      I concur, now a few more years and we might be talking about this again. Classic for me but I’ll use LR on trips where I don’t want to take a computer and edit with just my iPad etc.
      Thanks for watching!

    I'll have to check out LR again. I tried it before but much prefer LRC. Yep, I'd probably drop Adobe if they dump LRC.

      I’m certainly in the ‘I prefer LrC’ crowd. LR had a little easy to go but it is much better than the first time I saw it. Thanks for watching!

    After more than 10 years with Adobe photography subscription, I will cancel the subscription the moment Adobe drops LrC. No debate - end of story. We'll see what happens. And they really need to step up with ACR where det\il retrieval is concerned. Bayer noise (from inadequate raw processing of Bayer images) was finally addressed with AI Denoise, but crinkly lines and other artefacts still to be tackled.
    Note that ACR does the raw processing in both LrC (it IS the Develop tab) and Ps.

      I’m hoping LrC is around for a long time. LR has its place but right now it seems more of a travel app. Thank for watching!

      @jasoneldridgephotography  Před 6 měsíci +1

      Hahaha! Me too actually. I see a good use of LR for travel when you just want to take an iPad. Everything else though will be LRC for me.
      The catalog alone is enough to keep me there.

    Thanks for the video. Bit of advice, the title is a bit on the clickbait side. Would have been better: "Is LRC going to die?" or something like that. Having the local tab is just people screaming for the feature for so long, but there is so much functionality, currently and being added every so often to LRC that I don't see a clear indication that is going to be deprecated anytime soon. Once they build the tools and functionality in LR resembling LRC, then we might start thinking on migrating, but I truly don't see the reason why they can't coexist. I use LR on my iPad exclusively, and just to edit and share a few snapshots while on the road, but for any heaving editing, LRC in my Mac back home it is.

      I’m largely the same and it will remain as such for the foreseeable future. Certain things, like collections, need to happen before I move over. Thanks for watching!

      @@jasoneldridgephotography LOL good call, although I strongly suggest you try to avoid obvious clickbait titles. They are really frown upon, and while you might get views, you might also get some dislikes for that same reason. So be careful. BTW, you just got yourself a new subscriber :)

    I wanted really hard to like Lightroom and I gave it a concerted try but I kept bumping into things that Lightroom either didn't do or did so differently that it became an impediment. The main things were the lack of Collections in Lightroom, no slideshow module (or books, or print though I rarely use those) in Lightroom and the change of the shortcut keys. As you said, it is moronic to change those in LR over LRC. It is like the Adobe Engineers are in a room somewhere trying to find ways to create confusion and animosity. I'll stick with LRC. I really don't see a move to abandon LRC. Too many people like me still use it and don't like "Lightroom Light" as I call it. Adobe is getting some serious competition these days and really can't afford to eliminate a cash cow. Might they invest less in development in LRC, maybe. Will they likely invest more heavily in LR, probably. And if they eventually add collections to LR, maybe I'll try it again but for now, I'm content with LRC.

    • @jasoneldridgephotography
      @jasoneldridgephotography  Před 7 měsíci

      Ah, yes, collections... I use those all the time. I have no intent on switching to Lightroom from LrC but I want to keep my understanding of the program to at least manageable levels just in case the unthinkable happens. Now, I have used LrC on my iPad when I didn't have a computer handy to look at images from a trip. That was pretty cool. Still, I think it has a ways to go before I am willing to jump over. I can understand that! Maybe one day they will advance LR to have all the features. For now though it isn’t there. It still has a place especially if you’re trying to travel light.

      Exactly. The collections are not in LR as yet and I use those pretty regularly. Some of it just feels a little clunky yet. Perhaps in a few more years we will be looking at this question again.
