When Federal Agent Aaron Falk returns to his home town after an absence of over twenty years to attend the funeral of his childhood friend, Luke, who allegedly killed his wife and child before taking his own life - a victim of the madness that has ravaged this community after more than a decade of drought. When Falk reluctantly agrees to stay and investigate the crime, he opens up an old wound - the death of 17- year-old Ellie Deacon. Falk begins to suspect these two crimes, separated by decades, are connected. As he struggles to prove not only Luke’s innocence but also his own, Falk finds himself pitted against the prejudice towards him and and pent-up rage of a terrified community.

Absolutely fantastic movie! Had a bit of everything, but it's raw and gritty and made me proud to be an Australian, as the scenery and lifestyle and characters just made me feel home!

as someone from a small town where a murder of a young woman had taken place (unsolved for 20+ years at the time i saw it, thankfully the murderer has been identified since), the movie really resonated with me

It's rare to watch such good thriller drama that keeps you engrossed the whole time, you're not sure about anything, you think it's one thing, but it turns out to be another. The ending leaves just a little room for speculation.
What a good movie, Eric Bana's performance was one of a kind
This was so good, it kept me on my toes and surprised me. A classic Australian thriller, seamless in its interwoven stories of murder and secrets in a small Australia town
Watching it on Netflix as it just dropped. Is it based on a the story? I love Eric Bana. He’s a great Aussie actor.
I saw this today (opening day in Australia) It's a great film. Tragic and captivating each minute.

Yeah absolutely loved it, I just had 2 problems with it. Maybe they were explained in the novel, in which case please correct me but this was it:
1. Luke was shot with a rifle which would be a pretty hard weapon to commit suicide with in the way that Scott framed it (the shot would have been facing down through to his neck)
2. There was a 20 year gap between the past and present, but the characters don’t look like their in their mid to late 30s (mainly because the actors were in their 50’s) I think this could have been fixed by changing it from a 20 to 30 year time gap.
Other than those minor nitpicks, great film.
@@palpatine1715 agree about the gun. About the ages, Aaron left the town around 1989 I believe, with the book written in 2016, thats a 27 year gap, so it seems reasonable. Think it was moreso referred to as "over 20 years ago" more than just 20 years ago, so I think it should check out.
@@NClass468 ah, ok thanks for clarifying that, when I was in the theatre I was trying to come up with ways to make it make sense and my top one was that the investigation was closed after 7 years and then this was 20 years after that.

Yeah, just stumbled across this and I knew they were going to make it one day because the book was good...great to see it's here in a month. I will definitely watch it. Btw, I though Hugh might play the lead, but Eric looks so good.

I expected nothing from this movie as I hadn't really heard what it was about when I went to see it. It is one of the best movies I have ever seen. I opened a whole world for me - read all of Jane Harpers novels after seeing it. Can't wait for the second Aaron Falk movie

Es de esas películas que mientras el protagonista vive el presente, te pasa escenas del pasado. Mantiene la intriga hasta el final. Muy recomendada.

The movie is freaking amazing! Definitely go see it. An amazing Australian film. I've seen it twice. I saw it again today with my Mum and she loved it to bits too. And I could tell the other people in the cinema loved the film too.

Is this an Australian film? I'm a Brit and I love/adore Aussie movies. Can anyone recommend any please (any will do but I love gritty movies). My favorites are Chopper, Wake in Fright, The Castle, Hounds of Love (wow), The Rover, The Proposition, Snowtown (wow), Muriel's Wedding, Mad Max, Wolf Creek, Two Hands, The Boys, Romper Stomper. All great films.

Outside of seeing it in the cinema in Australia and New Zealand, I don't think it's available. I thought you could rent it through dendy at home, but apparently not yet. I, unfortunately, don't think it will release on a streaming service for quite a while. It hasn't even been released in most of the world. America won't be getting it until May. And I imagine there are similar delays all over the place.

@Maximos Wolfe I watched Deliver us from evil today which is how I got here and I think that's a great movie and made all the better with him. Hannah was really good also (I'd have to Google the other one's you mentioned) but if a movie comes out with him I'll be watching it.

This movie is very disjointed and hard to follow. It relies on you to have an understanding of the plot before you watch it, an understanding that can only come from reading the book . Its like trying to write a book report after reading the first sentence from each chapter . It was extremely hard to tell who had killed who until half way through, and who all the characters were and what relation to the past they had was confusing.
Can somebody explain me why the principal wanted to to murder Luke and his family? He was debt-ridden because of his gambling addiction and thus needed money which he tried to withdraw from the school finances. But why did he murder a whole family for that?
He murdered the wife because she was an accountant and found out there are some mistakes in the billings etc. and i assume he killed the Luke to make this look like he killed her and the case was closed, if Luke would be alive there would be investigstion on going, and the kid was the witness so he killed him too, baby was too young to remember anything. There is also book so maybe it can be explained there better. sorry for the English
