  • This video is part of a new series of videos on the Torquemaster Plus Spring system. There are a number of small steps or nuances that the Torquemaster Plus Spring needs in order to balance properly. In most cases the turns that are required to balance a Wayne Dalton with a Torqumaster spring vary.
    This video will help you on how to apply turns to a Torquemaster Plus Spring. In addition it will offer some pro-tips on what tools to use for this job, while offering a perspective on a tool that you might want to avoid.

    Without a doubt this is the best video for a DIY guy!!! I have a 6'-6"x 9' Wayne Dalton door and this afternoon when I pressed the button to open the door it pulled the bracket off the door. I used the release to open the door to get the car out and it was dead weight. I released the pressure on the spring per one of your videos and thought that I would rewind it to the specs but not sure on this one if it should be tighten the 15 turns as indicated on the card for a 6'-6" door on just one side. Advise would be appreciated.

    I have a wayne dalton door, it's working fine. Though the other day the safety mechanism activated on it and the garage door was left open until I got home from work and figured it out. My question is...I want te prepare for when the spring does snap. How doni measure the weight of a garage door on a wayne dalton system when the door is fully operational?
    Thank you

    • @sosgds
      @sosgds  Před 11 měsíci

      Hello. The weight of a 9100 model garage door will show on a yellow or white sticker on the Torquemaster Tube. The range of the weight usually falls between 120 to 150 lbs (55 to 68 kg). Yet I have a sneaky suspicion that your springs are broken or at least the spring that trigger the anit-drop feature. Did you apply tension to that side that locked?

  • @TBHD724
    @TBHD724 Před 2 lety +1

    Great video. I noticed in the video that for 1 turn on the spring there's about 2 turns from the socket wrench? Is there some kind of gear reduction in there or is it just me

    • @sosgds
      @sosgds  Před 2 lety +2

      Good question. There's a total of 8 clicks per turn. And with torsion springs we are use to seeing 4 turns. At any rate there's a bit of an illusion on how these springs are balanced.

  • @100jasonfox
    @100jasonfox Před 9 měsíci +2

    For a single spring torquemaster out of balance (loose spring), should I unwind a little first, then tighten, or just tighten directly?

    • @sosgds
      @sosgds  Před 8 měsíci +1

      Great question. I would unwind completely and then rewind to ensure proper balance.

    I’m getting a replacement garage door opener from Chamerlaine. She asked me if my door free falls at all. I have a Wayne dalton with (I’m assuming) Torqemaster spring system. The spring in the tube, it’s only 6yrs old. So I went inch by inch and it closed on its own around 8-10” from the ground. She said that’s bad and it needs servicing. Is that correct info? And if this is the case, has the spring come loose a bit and need tightening? I don’t wanna damage my garage door opener by having it fall on its own, even 10” from the ground

    • @sosgds
      @sosgds  Před 7 měsíci +1

      Great question! The idea about garage door balance is that you want the door to stay at any position when opened or closed. The reality is that balance can be a matter of preference. Some techs prefer that the door travel a little heavy when closing. In fact gravity can help on the close travel to some wall mount motors. Yet the consensus from the industry is that you don't want the door to slam down when opened at the 7 foot level.
      Now the variance that your garage door is experiencing is not detrimental. In fact it's normal. Thus, and only if you are confident in adding tension, you can apply slight turns to adjust for the garage door balance onto the Torquemaster spring.

  • @garagedoordoctorofhouston6518

    Great job your not a nobody!
    But I'm not going to lie I will only have a party on torquemasters when I convert them. Then it sounds like a party.
    BTW do you carry their springs on your truck. In Houston I'm usually 1 hour 1 way from them with traffic. So it would be by far cheaper for the customer if I convert to torsion plus I can get them 70,000 cycle springs if they want.
    Specific to this video its a great job I can show it to my guys if the customer provides the parts it will show them the tricks. Thank you!

    • @sosgds
      @sosgds  Před 2 lety +2

      Hey Cody! I know what you mean my friend. Converting a Torquemaster offers a lot of benefits. I usually offer to convert when the customer has just lot all faith in the Torquemaster design.
      Wayne Dalton is pretty much in my back yard. I'm minutes away from them. So getting Torquemaster springs is not difficult at all. The Chino Wayne Dalton distribution center has dominated this area for some time now. In fact, this entire area of Chino Valley is covered with 9100 model doors. And with the current spring shortage, I can easily offer these springs to local customers and get them going as opposed to waiting for backordered springs. But I am glad that this video is helpful. That's what this channel is about. Thanks again for the support Cody!

    Great video. I just installed mine last week and got it working.
    I bought the springs for 160lb garage door. Mine has windows on top. I couldn’t measure the weight of my door because it’s too heavy without the springs’ assistance.
    For some reason, it’s not working properly. It opens and closes the door BUT after 10 minutes if rest, if i press the wall switch it just opens for about 2 inches and then it stops so if press is again it will reverse.
    Then after 1 more press it finally opens properly. It always does that. HELP!!!!!!🤦😹🤯

    • @bamcotv
      @bamcotv Před 2 lety +1

      @@sosgds thanks for responding. I don’t think it’s balanced. I am already above the standard turns for the size of my garage door and it still slams going down. If however it’s almost on top it runs fast towards the powerhead. I have the Genie 7055.

    • @sosgds
      @sosgds  Před 2 lety +1

      @@bamcotv okay. Then it could be that the springs maybe a little bit too strong. Now there's no problem in having the door a little bit bottom heavy. But what we don't want is for it to race down to the ground and slam at the 5 ft level and 3 ft level. More importantly if the door races up it could cause damage to your garage door motor. This can you confirm for me if the door slams from the 5 ft level and or 3 ft level?

      @bamcotv Před 2 lety +1

    • @sosgds
      @sosgds  Před 2 lety +1

      @@bamcotv yes, unfortunately I have a sneaky suspicion that the springs are not rated properly for your door. So let's do this so that way I can provide you a little bit more guidance. I will provide you my email address if you could perhaps send me several pictures of your garage door system but from inside the garage. I don't need any outside pictures. Basically I need a full view picture of your door from the inside. A side view picture of your garage door, specifically the thickness. And a close-up picture of one of the sections preferably where one of the middle hinges are located. With these pictures I can determine certain aspects of your door and recommend the proper weight size of springs you should be looking for. Here's my email: sosgdoservice@gmail.com

    • @sosgds
      @sosgds  Před 9 měsíci

      Hello! Yes. For a 7 foot tall door it requires 16 full turns. The best way to do this is place a marker on your 5/8 deep socket. When that mark makes a full turn that can be counted as one full turn. Hope this helps.

    How do u know when enough torque is enough. If the amount of turns are applied and you still need to apply more ?)

    • @sosgds
      @sosgds  Před rokem

      Hello. That's a great question. When using the 5/8" deep socket it's best to write and scratch a mark on the socket to count the rotations. Once you have reached the 16 full turns for a 7 ft high door (8 ft high needs more turns) then test the door balance. If the door feels heavy as slight turns (clicks) till you are satisfied with the balance.
