  • World's Most Dangerous Roads: Deadliest Journeys Congo (2008)
    Deadliest Roads - Congo River: • Deadliest Roads | Cong...
    Years of war have left Congo’s infrastructure in ruins. In a country with no airport, no viable rail system and where the roads are almost totally unusable, transporting goods has become a serious problem. A journey of a few hundred miles can take a month. We accompany the ‘Prince of the Highways’, Domingo, as he navigates his truck, laden with goods and passengers, through swamps and jungle. Despite the assistance of three escorts, the journey becomes a nightmare.

    • @bender0428
      @bender0428 Před 3 měsíci

      What is happening is rampant corruption without a shred of investment into infrastructure. Infrastructure is the single deciding factor when it comes to an economy. That's it. It's why in the US a truck carrying double the amount of goods these trucks carry can transport them from New York to Los Angeles(almost 2,800 MILES, not kilometers) in the time it takes one of these trucks to travel a fraction of that distance with less than half the goods. To top it all off, none of those goods in the Congo represent any amount of significant capital going towards taxes to pay for infrastructure. Meaning all that's happening is they're sinking themselves deeper and deeper until they actually put a proper governmental system in place to regulate taxes and how they're spent.

    my parents are from congo, i grew up in canada. they would always tell me how well paved the roads would be in the times of colonization. when the belgians left they left w all infrastructure and any education as they didn’t let the congolese people go to university. so it was very difficult to retain organization in the country and its been in shambles ever since. there has never been a government that cares enough about the people to reinvest back into the country. poverty and corruption is a horrible combo. even the paved roads aren’t that great. when i was in kinshasa, it took us like 2 hours to drive like 60-70 kilometres. insane traffic and bad road conditions. but the people, oh the people. so kind, caring, and loving. but of course, we have our own problems. over reliance on religion, superstition, lack of formal infrastructure for labourers, women, etc. congo could be so strong if the world was willing to invest in us, and the people ourselves too.

      If you think we share the misery then you haven't travelled this country. Kenya has never been at this state. I hate the government but on infrastructure they've earned my respect. In fact, on road index we rank closely to UK.
