I remember roaming paddock at the very last Indycar race in Milwaukee (and in 2015 he only had one victory to his name) and long after everybody else had gone off to their motorhomes, he was still outside the truck, still in full uniform, talking to some fans.
Such a passionate, gracious driver... if feels good to see him having such success late in her career.

The first time I molded grips for Taku's steering wheel, I could tell he was completely focused. Later, when he started making his own grips, I ran up and congratulated him on his daring designs...BIG heavy wings can be risky, but he absolutely NAILED IT. Listen to what he said and watch his hands at around 2:39s when he talks about FEELING the tires and car.
As intense as he seemed in this clip at times, he can also be total clown and loves to laugh it up. I always enjoy seeing him at the tracks and getting caught up on his new ideas for the Human-Machine Interface...he's definitely not afraid to think outside the box, that's for sure! Brilliant filmmaking, too...thx.

My favorite thing about Sato is he breaks the traditional perception of talent not just in racing but for all walks of life. The tradition is you're most talented when you're young. It's all about finding the prodigy child, cultivating them until they peak in their mid 20s, then after ~30 the glory wears off. Sato is proving continuous improvement and experience can go toe to toe with youth and natural talent.

  • @GGRTL1

My favorite IndyCar driver. A fan of his since late 2006. When he won Indy 2 years ago I cried tears of joy because he got redemption and knowing what he had overcome in the last 10 years. I wish I could've met him at Sonoma last year. It's good to see he has that fire and desire to win or do the best he can.

Of course he has. He's Honda's biggest home grown star. He's well known among racing fans in both Europe and North America. + in Japanese corporate culture, brand loyalty is very important. That's why Honda wouldn't give Alonso and Mclaren an engine this year, because he drives for Toyota now. I wouldn't be surprised if they never give him an engine again.

He has a strong bond with honda since the start, but he did a lot to earn that spot and in the end, he's really the fastest japanese driver in my humble opinion (yes even over kobayashi). So nothing given for granted here.
