- The Jurassic Park novels from Michael Crichton are some of the best science fiction with cautionary warnings on genetics ever and they broke new ground for dinosaur series everywhere. But still most people have never read them. Here is just a few reasons why you should. From JP3 to Fallen Kingdom and Dominion this is why the world of the books needs to be taken in by movie fans.

Jurassic Park and The Lost World novel are truly the best books I've ever read. Horror, suspense and thriller, you name it.
They should definitely remake both movies and have them fully adaptation from the Novels.

There's tons of books out there.
The first book was great for how it showed how the nuts and bolts of the park weren’t anywhere near airtight. Ellie noticing bars added to windows that aren’t on plans she’s seen, the triceratops habitat having berries that are poison to them and indeed the visitors centre having not visitor friendly plants, not to mention the whole backstory behind Nedry and how he was embittered to work against Hammond.
I absolutely love the scene in the book where it’s learned that the reason the dinosaur population has always been recorded at max expected is because the count was capped at that. Once the cap is removed and the actual population figures come in, chilling. It’s a fantastic way to show how computers will only do what they’ve been told, no intuition for when something is fishy unless it’s been specifically coded in, and how out of control the dinosaur population has become.

Stegosaurus not Triceratops, Trike is in the films. It is the Stegosaurus pen, and they knew about the West India Lilacs already, but the Stegos weren’t eating them and did actually avoid them, however they did not know the Stegos would swallow stones to help them break down food, inadvertently swallowing a few of the berries on the ground.
That is such an amazing scene in the books. So so good
One thing about the Jurassic World trilogy is that doesn't feel like the Park films with how it's shot. It looks more like a Marvel film than it does Jurassic. Also the new dinosaurs look more like they came from Peter Jackson's King Kong than JP.
Yeah I think the Indominus in particular looks like the V-Rex
Dominion didn't feel like a Marvel movie. It felt a Hallmark movie...
I remember reading the books and loving them over the movie. I love the moment where Grant is rolling poisoned eggs toward raptors for them to eat.

Books always better than movies
Crichton is my favorite author. His books taught me so much and he had a tremendous knowledge on just about any subject. I still regret never getting to meet him and thank him for inspiring me to write and learn for myself.

The difference between any book and any movie is that 95% of a book is your imagination and the problem with movies is everyone’s imagination is different
I read the novels back to back, 13 times and they are more darker and violent than the movies themselves, where they have several deleted scenes and characters that would have made the final cut.
Thanks to your channel I actually got my hands on the books, and it's like I'm reading a completely new insight into the world and the story. It's such a shame Crichton can't continue with the books.

Reading Michael Crichton's work is really what inspired me to start writing my own novels. His thoughts on science and many other things in his novels is what made me look past all the cool action scenes in Jurassic Park and actually see the real meaning is behind it. It is sad to see how under rated he is nowadays and I definitely agree that the movies need to go back to the novels and take themselves more seriously.

I’ve read The Lost World and JP six times in order and I’m now reading through JP for the first time in 3ish years and I swear I pick up something I didn’t notice that ties into the Jurassic World movies as well as the original trilogy. The Lost World book is honestly my favorite book by Michael Crichton (I’ve read them all). Thanks for the constant River Ride of content man!
Same, I reread them every couple years, and while my memory is awful it’s amazing how much I pick up on that I had missed on my first read through
I love the first book. It's probably the best book I have ever read and might be my favorite book ever. As for Lost World, I didn't finish that one because to me it was nowhere near as exciting as the first, but I do want to finish it eventually.
It’s not quite as good as the first, but Lost World is a great read and I highly recommend both novels to anyone that likes the JP franchise.
reading it now and it definately drags more than the first book but getting towards the end I can feel the momentum starting to build.
The first is admittedly slow and contains a lot of Malcom postulating on all sorts of topics. The second half is unbelievable and contains some insane moments. Definitely stick with it.

I reread the first novel a few weeks ago for the 30th anniversary of the film. I'll probably reread The Lost World at some point this summer. The first one in particular is truly one of the greatest sci fi novels of all time.

I'm a student filmmaker and I've always wanted to create a TV series faithfully based on the books. There's so many ideas from the books left unused in the films. It'll have to be a TV series simply because making another film adaptation would immediately spawn hate from people who grew up with and adore the original films. I myself grew up with JP3 and I know many people dislike and whatever, but it was my favourite as a kid as I terrified by Spinosaurus and the new variants of Velociraptors. I'd love to see a TV series adaptation that faithfully retells the events that take place in both books. Be great to see a book accurate John Hammond and more accurate looking Dinosaurs (using the knowledge of today's discoveries - multicolored feathered Velociraptors would be awesome!).
Thanks for making this video man, been trying to get my classmates to read both books. I read the books when I was 9 years old and I remember reading the first chapter of Jurassic Park and thinking "Holy shit, this sounds like it's gonna be a heck of a lot more gruesome than the films!". I've read my copies of the books so many times they are falling apart!

I just finished reading the book with my friend for the third time. I love JP books. Subtle things, it’s fun. Just…. So different.

I've read and re-read Jurassic Park since I was in middle school, and some scenes, some sequences, still get me even to this day, decades later. I was listening to the audiobook while knitting a couple weeks back, and actually had to stop the playback and let my heart calm down at the reveal of the power to the fences being down. I knew it was coming. AND STILL IT GOT ME. For those of you still on the fence about reading the books, think of writing that effective and tense.
A good idea for your channel, and I think other subscribers would enjoy, is you should do an audio book reading of the books. Like 5 chapters per video, I feel you’d do an amazing job of bringing the book to life with your passion for the Jurassic Park franchise. You could even do follow up videos discussing the chapters you read, like what you enjoy, how’d you incorporate scenes into new films or changes scenes that were adapted for the films.

Came right when I got notified Klayton! I definitely agree that everyone should read the Crichton novels or Atleast the first one due to Lost Worlds book and movie being so different! I love the first book with the extra dinosaur attacks, juvenile T. rex, and of course the ending where Nublar is bombed!
I'm writing my own version of the Jurassic park novel with modern Science, and a more chaotic plotline with the Dinosaurs mutating. I don't think it'll be as good,but I'm sure Michael Crichton would love my version.

The two Jurassic books are easily in my to 10 of books and I also highly recommend his other book “Dragon Teeth”, it’s a historical fiction book about the hunt for Dinosaur bones

The Lost World. The 1st book I ever read. While my dad was at Hospice with Cancer. It was my escape from reality. But as an animal lover I appreciate the argument that these "animals" are living breathing beings and not just corporate property. The movies made thst argument beautifully.
The Dinosaur horror novel that really needs a faithful film adaptation is "Carnosaur". The Corman film is nothing like the book, the book is essentially a Slasher/monster story with a Deinonycus as the slasher/monster. then the mad scientist/billionaire's private zoo gets unleashed on a village. a Carnosaur reboot could make dinosaurs scary AF again. JP at least stayed close to source, Corman made Carnosaur into some alien knockoff.
I’ve read JP and TLW several times since I was 12 and they’re such good stories. Michael Chriton was a master of the Sci-Fi realm. A one to one movie adaptation of the books would be amazing, but it would absolutely be R rated. From Nedry getting disemboweled, to Eddie Carr getting torn apart to Genaro and Muldoon blowing a Raptor’s leg off, the books were DARK, but that is part of what made them so good
I really hope they go route in the future. Would love to see how dark in tone it can be made. Doubt it will happen or at least anytime soon, but would be really nice.

Jurassic Park and The Lost World got me into reading as a 12 year old in 2008. I could never remember the first time I saw the first JP film. It was kinda like a family member, it just always there. But I vividly the day I bought that paperback from Borders, I was never the same. I read it on a beach and on a car ride through the jungles of Puerto Rico and then on the mangroves of the east side of the island. It was unbelievably immersive for the young boy I was then. I remember how sad I was when I got to the ending, when Jurassic Park got napalmed by the military. And after finishing that, I couldn't wait for Lost World. Lost World was an even bigger surprise for me. Tragically, I discovered, that same year Michael Crichton had died. And it was devastating to me when I found out. Regardless, they opened up a whole new world for me and it changed my life.

The novels are awesome. I tried reading them when I was a kid because I was obsessed with JP. I just understood the dino scenes but most of the themes and scientific commentary went over my head. As a teenager I re-read them and loved them more than the movies. As an adult, the first novel in particular is a masterpiece.
Because the original novel is more of a horror movie/book than the PG-13 live action adaptations. Not to mention contains scenes that were so intense, that they should have been in the film: The T.rex licking the windshield of the car with the kids inside. Sigh of a killer. I hope the franchise gets rebooted & Becomes a horror franchise with James Cameron Writing & directing it
You are 100% correct. Anyone who loves the movies but has read them needs too. I did like 2 years ago and they were both fantastic! Made me love the franchise even more I think.
Iv seen the first three films more then a 100 times each. Finally at 16 I got the books for my birthday, and i have never read a book that fast in my life. The books are 10× better then the films in every way. Now i still love the films with my heart, but the books are so good. I can't describe it in words
The part of the first film compared to the novel that irks me is that Alan and Ellie are awestruck by the dinosaurs and such until shit hits the fan in the film (only Malcolm questions it and he’s a damn mathematician), but in the book, they get there and the wonderstruck feeling dissipates when they get settled in, already seeing the major issues.
If I could have been there to help write it (I wasn’t even born until 2 months later), I would have them see the baby dinosaurs and during lunch, Hammond goes off during it, the three talk about the issues after the excitement wears off and Gennaro disagrees with them, maybe storming off. Then Hammond meets up with them as they get ready for he tour, which the kids surprises them, which leaves Alan and Ellie trying to talk about how the park isn’t a good idea, but Hammond rushes them off, blowing off their concerns until after the ride.
So by having Hammond basically blinding himself on purpose by his own absurd delusions of grandeur of his creation, the issues the park imposes is being ignored from the professionals that are aware how dangerous this is. I think it would help connect to the message more, especially since it’s really weird it takes them a while to see the threat, despite being knowledgeable in this field within the film.
I listening to both the books on Spotify last summer and I really enjoyed the scare moments, although I didn’t always enjoy the human characters the same way u enjoyed their film counterparts.
If they plan on making more films/series they should same kind of terror the books had.
I'm actually getting through the first novel and man oh man, I LOVE IT. I got Barnes & Noble's special hardcover edition which also contains The Lost World. The more horror tone throughout, the way it builds up suspense, more dinosaurs (including my favorite, Stegosaurus), and different portrayal of some of the characters.
The best parts of the books is that they actually provide very interesting insights into scientific and philosophical concepts.
I've been re-reading the books once per year since I was 9 when the first movie came out. Little touches that you can't really nail in a movie keep bringing me back, like how Grant notices the extra security bars hastily welded onto hotel room windows that weren't in the original blueprints. My favorite monologue in the first one is Malcom expanding on how InGen doesn't respect the power of genetics because they didn't "earn" it; he compares it to a martial arts master learning to NOT recklessly kill people over the years and years it takes him to learn HOW to kill.

The books are great! Specially The Lost World! I always love that part of investigation of MalColm and Levine to find Isla Sorna, and then Prep out for the Excursion with the Professor and Eddie. Man! How could they not do this in a movie or series yet! Let unknown characters discover that something survive far away (excluding the Dominion end, of course)
I had the audiobook on last night while I slept. My favorite part of the first book is the motion sensor tracking part where they start looking for more than the expected number and realize they fucked up
If you haven't read the books, you don't know the genius you're missing out on. They are SO GOOD. Have read them both several times, and will surely read them many more times throughout my life if the Lord gives me the time.
I NEED to reread the books! The 1st time I was reading them, I believe it was when Grant 1st got back to the control center & he had them run the census. They said it was fine. He told them to turn it up, they found more & more & more. I remember being like, "what? How high is this going to go?!?!!" There were so many parts in the book that got me.

The most notable difference between the jurassic park novel and movie is that the book's first half is more of a techno thriller and it doesn't become an island adventure until much later.
Also despite its length, JP the book was so good and such a page turner, I finished it in only two days.

You and your channel is the reason I picked the books up! The audio books are always my go to for road trips! They are absolutely some of my favorite books.
The books were great. I happened to read the Lost World first, translated into my native language, as a kid. It helped a lot that it was one of the best... no, the best novel translation I've ever read. Adapting just enough to take use of differences in the languages, and thus keeping the narration feel right and vivid but still Crichton. Later on I learned how much harm a bad translation can do, as many of similar top sellers are read translated - badly translated - world-wide. Having since read the original in English twice or so, I still feel the translation matches the telling of the original - likely the only novel I can state that myself. I can't help wondering how many people worldwide have missed Crichton's storytelling due to bad translations. (I've never read the original JP1 novel except in English, so I don't know how that worked out in my native.)
I was a massive novel reader all throughout childhood and especially highschool, but the JP & LW novels were the worst experiences I've ever had with any books - the translations must have been terrible, at least I hope so. But I was still left with a reticence to get back to them

Actually the wife and I are about a little over half through the Lost World. Definitely worth the read. Keep up the good content man.
I became an enthusiast reader because of Michael Crichton at a very young age, so not long after the movie came out, I read the book, then bought Lost World the day it came out. They are excellent books.
The movies became about corporate greed and animal rights because of course they did. They're simplistic ethics, easy to recognize and put on screen and basically no one argues with them. Everyone makes anti-greed movies, it's safe. But defining where screwing with nature goes from an everyday occurrence to a problem is lost on most people. Crichton obviously didn't think it was wrong to build cities or fish, so where' the limit? Is it wrong to plant genetically engineered crops? How about hybrid crops? We use those all the time and had been doing them at the time the novel was written.
The complexity of his ethical point came from big-picture biome interactions and environmental fitness, purposefully not bringing in creatures where they didn't fit. A little bit of this makes it into the first movie, with the lunch debate, and the other five movies don't touch it. They mostly became schlock horror. The books are way past what an average movie audience can really grasp.
I'll admit that I didn't register the family theme in Lost World. Hey, I was 14. But thinking back, you're spot on. Crichton is still underrated.
I work night shifts so I’ve probably listened to these books well over 50x. It doesn’t get old
I read the books like 5 years ago because of your videos about them, best 2 books I've ever read. I absolutely love The Lost World (novel) and wish they adapted that story, still love the movies tho. The 90s and early 00s Jurassic park era was honestly so much better compared to the sequel trilogy.
I would definitely like to see a Netflix or some other streaming service do a reboot series or movie that's more of an actual adaptation of the first 2 books where the ending of the series or movies is the DX prion killing the dinosaurs

Got my copy back in 2000 on Oahu, Hawaii in a bookstore a few miles away from the Jurassic Park Gallimimus field, the book had both Jurassic Park & The Lost World. The title page says Michael Crichton’s Jurassic World

I agree 100,000% klayton! The novels have just about everything. If you want action, you've got action. If you want suspense you've got suspense. If you want horror, you've got horror.
Roland was such a good character ! Not a good or bad guy, he was just on the humans side. He has humanity from and emotion, but also a cool and calculating drive of a big game Hunter, that is able to reason out the harsh math it takes to survive when on a the wrong side of a hunt!

Personally, I want to see JP and The Lost World remade to follow the books more closely. Not that I didn't enjoy the movies as they are, but the books are just miles better.
I really liked that they referenced the novel in Camp Cretaceous when the kids talked about how Hammond died.

The book and movie difference is awesome! Not the mention the book difference in the movie and book is cool to know the Lawyer is a hero in the book compared to his pathetic counterpart in the movie. Also John Hammond died by Compys in the book.

I actually watched some of your videos covering portions of the novels a few weeks back and they inspired me to pick up the first book and give it a shot. I’m still going through it, but man, it’s a truly amazing read and it’s so cool to see where this franchise started! Definitely is making me wish that Dominion and other movies in the series took more from it!

You bring up an interesting point which I had not thought about Klayton. I think an interesting idea would’ve been to kill off the Nubla dinosaurs at the end of Fallen Kingdom with only a few survivors escaping into the wild. Then Dominion is basically TLW novel. Claire, driven by guilt, finds out their are dinosaurs on Sorna. Goes with Dodgson, he betrays her. Owen, Maisie and the legacy characters go to save her. They could even tie in the locusts in the future saying they are responsible for killing the ecosystem on Sorna (I know it’s retcon but it would build on the lore and make them somewhat relevant). This way they could’ve introduced new dinosaurs naturally on Sorna and not have a bunch of random ones show up all over the world like “how did they get here? Who made them?”
I haven’t read the first book but picked up the Lost World on the kindle recently. I have to say, I thoroughly enjoyed it and loved the fact that it was so different.
I’m dyslexic and ADHDer. My dyslexia makes it difficult to read. My ADHD makes it difficult to focus on AudioBooks. So it’s very rare that I was read a book.
I had somewhat known about changes from JP novel to film, ie Wu and Hammond. But nothing about TLW.
However, about a year ago I discovered your channel and watched years old videos going over some of the best scenes from TLW, particularly the cage with Arby. And I just wanted to know the full story.

I re-watched Jurassic Park III and it was so bad it was actually fun, I had a good time, because the movie is generous and sincerely tries. I don't have time to waste on the Jurassic World movies, they really thought of them like roller coasters, it transpires in the trailers.

I got a second hand copy of Jurassic Park last year. I started reading it a week before I got shingles. Despite the pain of the shingles I could not help but pick up this book and keep reading. It is such a gripping story and, in many ways, VASTLY superior to the film. But I do love the OG JP movie.The concept is still there...but I would love to see the river chase sequence done like the book.
They also have audiobook versions on here as well. Usually go through both books back to back every 3 months while at work

I remember running through a book in our school library the JP was old and the hard cover is torn already, and it blows my mind, I like the Novel as well.
Everyone should absolutely read the first book at least. Having seen the movie helps visualize the real horror they fought against and there's enough differences that it's not just the movie in book form.
Lost World for me tends to drag in some places, but the first book 100% mandatory read
If they decide to reboot the films, they should do them based directly on the novels and make them.
I'd love to see the "oh shit!" moment from the first novel when they change the expected dinosaur count and it reveals there are definitely more dinosaurs than they thought put into film

Jurassic Park novel: **blasts a raptor with a rocket launcher**, **hunts a T-Rex while drunk**, **snarls at raptors attacking an iron fence** (my favourite part because the raptors got really, reallly angry at him for doing that, on the level of "It's personal now" XD )
Why everyone should read the novels is because they can provide a lot more context that isn’t always in the movies and also so people won’t make bad reviews like Doug Walker/Nostalgia Critic that has their attention to detail way off and gives inaccurate information.
65 million years I totally Agree, the Novels are So underrated and everyone Should definitely read the Novels. I also heard before Micheal chrichton died, he was making a Third book. But sadly it was lost in history.
