There's more fact about Philippine Airlines, it was founded by the Philippine Congress as the Philippine Aerial Taxi in 1935 before Andres Soriano Sr. (Founder of San Muigel Corp.) founded Philippine Airlines and then Philippine Aerial Taxi merged with them. In 1941 and they operate DC3 until the WW2 has begun and use DC3 to evacuate American Pilots to Australia and in 1946 Philippine Airlines back to operation and also Philippine Airline leased 1 aircraft to Japan that led to founding Japan Airlines. During the 60s Philippine Airlines was bought by Philippine Government during Marcos regime from San Miguel Corp and became state-owned and that help the Airline to expand more route. After the Marcos regime, Philippine Airlines is still state owned until in 1995 when Lucio Tan (Founder and chairman of LT Group.) bought the majority of the share of the Philippine Airline that led to re-privatization of the Airline and make another expansion until the Asian Financial Crisis that led to laid-off Pilots and that led them to protest and against the airline and it's parent company: LT Group. Skip to 2012 where San Miguel Corp is taking a 49% Majority of the Airline until it was taken over by the LT Group in 2014. 2014-Present Philippine became 4 star airline under LT Group and in 2019 ANA (All Nippon Airways) take 9.5% stake of the Airlines as an expansion of the ANA to the southeast Asia and also expansion of Philippine Airlines route under ANA...
I took a lot of research of the about the Philippine Airlines and I was so amazed to the history of that Airline.

    Little history about PAL
In WW2, they had to use one if their aircraft to transport wounded soldiers... then later after the War... i think... they donated a DC-3 to an upcoming airline back then... and so was born Japan Airlines... if not for PAL.. JAL would never exist... making JAL the second asian airline... then businessmen from all over asia saw the airlines develop, so was born every other Asian carriers we know today... now back to PAL... during the demo flight for the marvelous Concorde in the early 70s... they offered it to PAL... the Pres. Almost agreed but fuel economy... is high af.. the other Concorde orders well... got cancelled cause of fuel too.. Air France was then the only one... then BA got the plane for free... back to PAL, so PAL grew on to become the airline we know today, the first asian airline, the father of JAL... now chasing their 5th star... that concludes this little story

Hi Josh! Yeah, I'm impressed with them, too. Their standards have really gone up in recent years with brand new aircraft added to their fleet, improved training, and a more careful selection of their cabin crews. I heard Philippine Airlines will even have its own exclusive airport in Manila and get this ... it will have 6 parallel runways! If they keep going at this pace, they will certainly give regional competitors like SQ, CX, BR, CI, NH, JL, etc. a real run for their money. I heard PR is actually the first airline in Asia! Great vlog. Thanks, mate!

But the second time was in September 2018. I can say that their economy has improved a lot more legroom and better service a monitor in front of each seat and the plane was Airbus A330. The other times I've went to Philippines was with Royal Brunei Airlines. The plane that I've been with RBA is 777 something and 787 dream liner.

Thanks a lot, Sir Josh, for your very thorough review of our flag carrier and how you love and enjoy the service on PAL. True, Philippine Airlines may have experienced hard times back then, but the airline has been able to shine through by offering great, personalized service by its well-trained yet friendly cabin crew. Of course, PAL may not have the best food on board or the roomiest Business Class, but the way the all-Filipino cabin crew tend to their flyers will always be remembered: warm, always smiling yet dedicated and professional :-) and, before I end, allow me to relate this: even during the difficult times PAL encountered way back then, my flights--both domestic and international--always arrived on time. And do keep up your great reviews, Sir Josh!

I'm planning to visit Japan next year, from Bangkok and I tried to find business class with Philippines airlines, cause it's cost effectiveness. But it seems like they only operate a321 which doesn't have leg rest like the a321 neo. I was wondering if they stop operate a321 neo?

Hi Josh, Interesting review. I watched it was today I booked a couple of Philippines flights from KL to Manila for April later this year. One of the flights is listed as an A320 but the other is A321. I think the seats are only a 120 degree recline by the look of it rather than a fully flat bed? What was the alcohol service like in the Manila Mabuhay lounge? What was the wine/champagnes served on flight? Did you get a pic of the business class menu on your flight? Also I noted you hold you fork and knife in the wrong hands (do many people comment about this lol).

I flew PR222 BNE-MNL last year in October in Business class. The flight was supposed to be a A321Neo but they sent a 777-300ER instead which was even better (RP-C7773).
The return flight was the A321Neo (RP-C9936) Wasn't as spacious being a narrow but for the type and for a 7 hour flight it didn't disappoint.
When leaving Australia, You get Qantas lounge access.

Hi Josh, I enjoyed the review! For a short period of time worked in the PAL GSA ticket office in Melbourne, Australia. Philippine Airlines have come a long way from the very old A340 ex Iberian planes they use to have on the MNL to MEL VV routes. After flying Philippine airlines on the Neo do you think Philippines airlines are worthy of joining an Alliance? If so, which one do you think they should join to help connect that alliance to the amazing Philippines?

Nice video mate, just a heads up though, from memory when I flew PR213 on the 321neo, the Inflight Wi-Fi was free for only 15MB or 15 mins, but then you need to pay for either an hour’s access or for access for the duration of the flight. Then again it may be free access for business class and only economy had a charge for the Wi-Fi. Still, it’s nice PAL is renewing the fleet
