  • Despite E-Ink's benefits for your eyes, it comes with some drawbacks, one of which is scrolling on it sucks. I've been able to work around this with the Navball settings on the Boox tablet, but I no longer need to do that thanks to a new update to Readwise Reader. This update from Readwise adds Kindle style pagination to anything you'd want to read, and it's awesome. Let me show it to you.

    Thanks for the video, Brandon, very helpful. I'm using Reader on the Boox on a daily basis, too, but I have issues with the slight grey background that got heavy dithering of the default light theme of Reader. Have you switched on optimization and which optimization settings do you use to get such a white background as shown in the video ? Also, my Refresh Mode settings are still "Normal/Regal/Speed/A2/X" (on the latest Boox Update from November, I'm using an Air2), how did you get the "Balanced" refresh mode ? Thanks!

    Hi Brandon, thanks for the video!
    I'm currently specifically looking for an Eink device to use for the Readwise Reader App + Kindle + (maybe Obsidian) + some handwritten notes.
    It should be portable, have at least decent battery life and be as future proof as possible.
    Do you have a recommendation for that use case (especially for Readwise Reader)?
    I really like the Supernote Nomad for its community-based development and the replaceable battery + SD-Slot.
    How hard is it to get Reader running on that device and how smooth is the experience?
    I would love to hear your thoughts!

      Readwise Reader isn’t officially supported on Supernote. They blocked the ability to install it with a recent update. They have plans to officially support sideloaded apps at some point in 2024. If you want advice that can do it today then the recommendation is probably the Boox Note Air 3C, however, hopefully there will be a 300 pixel, black and white Boox device at some point this year.

      @@BrandonKBoswell I ordered a Supernote Nomad last week in the EU store, and it's still on the older software version - so was able to sideload Reader no problem. So if someone gets a device shortly they'll probably get a device on the older firmware, at least for the next few weeks.

    Rather than black and then white particles raising to the surface, if they could make particle with one black side and one white, all that would be needed was for them to turn 180 degrees. But then as they must've thought of that but not implemented it, actually making two sides particles _[or more]_ must be much harder than just saying it.

  • @karlmunford7000
    @karlmunford7000 Před 5 měsíci

    I've often thought how nice it would be to have smooth continue scrolling on my Supernote rather than page turns, but then I _'assume'_ that would require a rewrite of code because most links link to page numbers rather than the anchor points used in such as in html, or maybe I'm wrong?

    • @BrandonKBoswell
      @BrandonKBoswell  Před 5 měsíci +1

      If scrolling got significantly better then maybe, but this runs pretty counter to Supernote’s philosophy for their device.

    Well... not great impressions from Readwise alas. Your 60 day free became 30 days after signing up. Then they copy Apple and refuse to provide a "show characters button" when entering passwords. And now find out that the paged setting is... per document. That or I'm using it wrong - every time I load a new article it resets for me.
    Never mind the "we live in san francisco and enjoy avocado on toasted sourdough" pricing.
    Minor: no 2 up / dual page view for Book Tab Mini C which realllly needs it (much more comfortable weight wise when used in landscape).
    I'll stick to my own hacky project which converts webpages in Firefox into Markdown files and then converts those into PDF and EPUB. NeoReader ain't perfect but far better than this either way.
    Those Unreal engine TTS voices though... really nice. But Evie and my Pixel 6A's built in voice is Just Fine.
    P.S Hi! Not a subscriber but always enjoy your POVs in the calls on My Deep Guide!

      👋. It should be 60 days, but if it’s not then send them an email at hello@readwise.io. You can set the paged setting to be on by document type.
      Wishing you the best!

    Those Eink as note takers are all laggy . All boox all Remarkable all and all are only one single thing - Laggy in hand write , pixilated , Low resolution ..
    For handwriting IPad is king . And in IPad using Noteshelf 3 is the way to go . And in Noteshelf 3 the way to go is using the fountain pen ( it is more of a regular pen albeit the name fountain ) and under fountain pen you want sensitivity OFF ( but ON is also good) and 0.5 or 0.6 or 0.7 or 0.8 thickness options.
    That is the best way to go for writing and I have tried them all - E ink and IPad. E ink is too laggy and pixilated for hand writing.
    For tipping also IPad is exactly like typing on a computer using even the same office bundles .
    Using Bluetooth pen is much more responsive quick the using any non Bluetooth pen . Bluetooth is a must for the pen not to be laggy .
    Ipad uses Apple Pencil which is a Bluetooth pencil .
    Also in Apple Pencil you can use the same tip for 10 years . With E ink the nib is becoming mushroom like and needed to be replaced every 2 weeks or so , even 1 week , and the writing experience which is not the best from the start has a ad decline slop as the nib gets worn so quickly . Also those E ink nibs needing fairly quick exchange is a huge cons.
    IPad screen and ease and fluid work and color accuracy are vastly superior to any E ink.
    iPad is the only way to go from any aspect.
