  • Did you know that Singapore actually has our very own watch factory? When creating these time-pieces, precision is key. Each part has to be as precise as one micron in order to tell time accurately. That's 1/60th of a strand of hair!
Drawn by the potential of Singapore as an innovative and high-tech industrial hub, Seiko established its first overseas subsidiary in 1976. The company began as a fully integrated watch manufacturer, handling everything from commercial raw materials to finished products, supported by the world's first robot-controlled manufacturing line for precision watches.

The Singapore made Seiko movements are made from the 1980s to the early 1990s only. We don't get them because the movements are only found in watches meant for the overseas market like in the US. There were some movements made by either Malaysia or Singapore, but the Singapore ones are hardest to find. The yellow watch featured here is the SKA035 (affectionately known as Bumblebee) and it can be found with Singapore and Malaysia made movements. For Seiko collectors, the Singapore made movements actually command a much higher price and collectability factor.
