    Lot of the comments were from people who have not used the calculator yet. Having used to moderately, I can confidenbtly say its the best calculator I have used. The stylus interface is nice and the touch screen combi with keyboard makes it a dream over other calculators. Packed with features. I highly recommend it.

    A note on fraction entry on all Casio models. If you press the Fraction button first you'll get the fraction template so you can type the numerator and denominator without having to use parentheses.
    If you forget, theres no need to put in the open-parentheses, just type a close paren then the fraction key and it will put everything from the start of the line to the close paren in the numerator and start you entering the denominator. Then just delete the close paren to clean things up.

    • @etch4
      @etch4 Před 4 měsíci

      Yes, you need parentheses
      (x+1)(x^2 + 5x + 6)
      -----------------------------
      (x + 3)
      I was just joking.

    Hello Ron,
    Thanks for the post. I'm more "old school" so I prefer the HP approach with as you say " classic calculator with touch screen enhancement".
    I've still not had enough time with the Prime to make a thorough judgment on it...but at this point I certainly don't think you can go wrong if you go with it.
    Cheers,
    Martin.

    Hey, I'm loving the calculator review series, I look forward to more. I purchased the Casio ClassPadII and I agree with most of what you've said. I just want to standup for it, it is (as you say) "quirky" but it's worth the adjustment unless you're an RPN fan. Also, the rubber grips on mine work great, you may have gotten a lemon in that respect.
    As a professional university student in Canada I just want to warn any reader who's stuck with me this long that it is HIGHLY unlikely that this calculator will be allowed in any science or engineering course west of Ontario. Most Canadian universities don't permit basic graphing calculators (TI-83 series etc) let alone a CAS machine. So be sure you investigate before you buy.
    Great machine in my opinion!

    I enjoyed your 'real world' presentation of a powerful calculator. Thanks for demonstrating that the small screen size means no room for sidebar icons - thus necessitating frequent swaps between keyboard and stylus and also swapping between menus to access functions.

    I have the HP Prime, the Nspire CX Cas and the casio classpad 330 (the 400 is due to me in a couple of days). Like everything in life they all have their pros and cons but overall the casio has the easiest interface to use. The HP Prime is the best form factor, the nspire is the best supported but overall (based on using the 330 and looking forward to the 400) I prefer the Casio - for example being able to drag a formula onto a graph and seeing it plot is a joy; working with single letter and named variables is a doddle. It is slower than the HP Prime at the actual calculation but up to that point it's much more intuitive to use, and therefore quicker

    • @IExSet
      @IExSet Před 6 lety

      Casio is very comfortable about its primary usage target, HP Prime is MUCH faster than Classpad II with its HP Basic. But they both have closed jail-like fenced system without SDK.

    Just a quick note. when you do the initial calibration. you don't have to be perpendicular to the screen, in fact, you need to be in your normal working angle and calibration is there to compensate for it

    I would still have to say the prime would be the better option because with the prime you don't have to think too much about using it. Whereas the cassio you need to think a few steps ahead when calculating, such as finding what function you need on various screens.

    Great video Martin!!. For what I see it is a REAL pain to enter a simple symbolic expression: The calculator looks great but this constant toggling between keypad and stylus it is confusing. I think this calc is good when you are at home studying or doing some mathematical analysis. I can't imagine using this calculator while I am in the middle of an exam!.

    • @adafrost6276
      @adafrost6276 Před 9 lety +2

      Exactly. I plan on buying a Classpad for graphs and things that require the screen real estate, but my prime will still be my choice for any time I need to be efficient and just get math done. Nothing out there can match the speed of the Prime once you learn its quirks (and there's a lot of them to be fair).

    Did you try *dragging* the trace crosshairs? If that doesn't work, that's really lame. Also, to decrease the time it takes to calculate the portion of the graphs out of the view window, you can set the pitch to a lower value. The pitch is what tells the calculator how precisely you want the graph to be drawn (i.e. the lower it is, the more points it finds and connects)

    Thanks for good demo. The iPad apps Calculator Infinity and Quick Graph+ are very well priced and have free versions with restrictions to try before you buy. Both very intuitive and are jam packed functionalities of practically any full featured graphic calculator our there. However for your exams the iPads may be a problem and thus these calculators may be the only way.

    29:25 Can you use the Shift key or some other modifier key and the arrow keys to make the trace point jump? I often use that old trick on my TI-89 Ti and I find it very useful. But then again, this Casio calculator has a touch screen, so I would expect it to support touch-based tracing of graphs. It would seem silly of them not to make use of this gorgeous display in this manner.

    Uses the "pre-emptive" numerator / denominator -button correctly on the previous video with HP Prime, can't use that on this one.
    -_-
    Also from the viewpoint of one that just watched these few videos "CAM #0 - #3", there's a slight bias towards HP detectable. You can do most things demonstrated on the HP on multiple other calculators, sometimes much easier, but the HP ones are the only ones that gets praised on these features. (Like the RPN on the 50g, the way the "the previous answer is available easily" -part is narrated.) You can do that on literally almost any scientific/graphing/symbolic calculator out there by just hitting the operator button before the number. ie. type "9", hit enter. Type an operator, say "+" and "9". Hit enter, you get "18". At least Ti's also have an ans() variable/array that is the last answer(s).

      shift / == template numerator denominator no parentheses needed 2 shift 0 == pi ^ 2 cursor right - 17 cursor down 5 + shift ^ == radical 17 cursor right (2X)
      + again no parentheses needed 13 / 2.5 * 7

    The problem with any HP and I've been using HP calculators for more then 25 years is that even the HP50G doesn't have very good stats functions. It's something they just don't invest time in. The HP prime is a great calculator, but they need to flesh out the stats. The problem with the casio is that they didn't put a rechargeable battery in the unit for a longer run time, this classpad is going to suck the AAA batteries down fast and that's gonna be a pain for students, if they even allow students to use such a calculator. IMO tablets with wolfram alpha and Desmos for graphing are far better than graphing calculators that have slower processors and not nearly as nice a display as a 7 to 10 inch screen does.
