For the records, there was no time Ghanaian music dominated Nigerian music. You can say some Ghana music were popular and popping in Nigeria at a certain time, like vip, fuse odg..not that they dominated.. Again, saying Ghana movies influenced Nigerian movies should be the other way round.. stop lying to yourselves just to feel better..

Nigerians were the ones that built Ghana Economy in 50s and 60's. l grew up in Kumasi, Ashanti New Town in 60's and family moved back to Nigeria in 1971 when Ex President of Ghana "Busai" chased Nigerians out of Ghana. Ghana Economy went bad after Nigerians moved away and Ghanaians started moving to Nigeria and some these Ghanaians turned to "Shoe Shinning" around Lagos and Ibadan in Nigeria. The Pillar of whole Africa Continent is Nigeria in all aspects of living. Love from DC. ------- Osollo.

First BET awards that included Africans had 2 Nigerians and 1 Ghanaian as nominees, this category was won by a Briton and since then Nigeria has won it more than any other African country.
When Nigeria won her first Kora award in 1999, no Ghanaian had even had a nomination. Note that Kora awards started in 1996.

Its all very laughable and indeed hard to hear from the guy sitting in the middle assert that nigerian copy from ghana or that ghana music influenced thd nigerian music. First, let me describe him as a pretender who represents himself to the public as one who is balanced or so to be seen unbiased and i will ask him to remove the cloak of shame from his face and state the obvious. Second, no one country between nigeria and ghana thought the other how to play music, and so he should stop wallowing in illusion. Nigerian music is fundamentally different from ghanaian music on grounds of culture and social composition. Nigeria with more than 250 ethnic groups with blended varying culture and tradition has more source of musical artistry to tap from than ghana is blessed with. Third, in the 70's when Osibisa group made waves both in africa and USA or in short thr world, it was nigeria that promoted them in africa, all radio stations and TV stations in nigeria invited and showed them to african public. Nigeria did not complain, instead nigerians felt africa was on world stage. Fourth, when Manu Dibango of Cameroon came on world stage with his master clasdic "Soul Makossa" nigerians embrassed the music with unequalled passion the track was played everywhere. At this time Nigeria was promoting musicians from ghana and other african countries such Mariam Makeba of South Africa to the extent that Ms Makeba was billed to play at FESTAC in lagos in 1977. Also during this period, Fela Anikulapo was popular with afro beat which music then upstaged every other artist, but ghanaians wete the first to complain as though they must be acknowledged the best ever. Off the stage, they claim nigeria learnt or borrowed from them. He mentioned PSquare as aping a ghanian artiste - to him every thing originated from ghana. England invented football but Brazil is thd greatest football nation of the world, England never for a day went after Brazil and demonise them rather they urged their football association to begin to develop to catch up with Brazil. Spain, Argentina, Getmany, Italy, France etc never had a word anger from England because these nations have relegated them to the bottom. Let it be known to ghanaians that better they spent on irrelevant issues of who is or not better between nigetia and ghana the more they stay left out and nigeria will continue to excel. I expected that ghana will have criticised the 100 of 1000s pop stars from America of over shadowing ghana musicians or claim that the style of america music was transported from ghana to USA. It beggars reasoning that ghana's worry is nigeria. My brother i think ghana has nothing rrasonable engaging their daily life so they spent good time talking about nigeria. Yet the complain has given you no head on.

I just wonder what these people are going to do when Nigerian economy becomes a thriving economy. If our creative art industry's success is giving Ghanaians headache, our economic success which is coming soon will make Ghanains get a heart attack.

Keep up the fair comments and better to stand out by being different from other podcasts that incline too much to one direction. Point of correct, there was never a time Ghana music was dominating in Nigeria, there was a time Ghana music was very popular, not dominating. Nigeria is a very huge space with 36 states, a huge variety of musics dominated different zones with the traditional ones leading the pack back in the days. By a simple study of Nigerian diversity you can easily see not all zones of Nigerian are that into Ghana or so, some of the zone have more in common with our direct neighbors than with Ghana. Most of the time people analyse Nigeria based on opinion coming from a few big cities without understanding that Nigeria is a very wide and diverse entity. As at today, there are some people in other states who assume Ghana is a state or a direct neighbor of Nigeria because they keep hearing about Nigeria in Ghana conversation from far. Both countries are friends and will always be, but it's time some podcasts began to know that Nigeria as whole doesn't end in few major cities you hear of daily. opinions are wide and diversed
