      Not to mention that explanation of "gameness" like at the 21 minute mark. That was priceless, almost made the whole thing worth watching just for the laughs.

      Ken Quin It is clear from your posts that you fear, hate, and don't know anything about American Pit Bulls or Bully/Bulldog breeds in general. It sounds like you see anything involving Pit Bulls as negative or involving dog fighting. You think that all of or the majority of Pit Bull owners encourage and partake in illegal activity. Do more research before talking. You might understand why they score higher than the general dog population in temperament when tested by the American Temperament Test Society and why there are used for most anything from police dogs to therapy dogs.

    It says that these dog shows and their members have been accused of being a front for dog fighting syndicate. Sports like weight pulling or biting and hanging from an object do not mean that people are training or displaying a fighting dog. This is more about the dogs and what they were created to do. American Pit Bulls were originally used for farming and hunting purposes. They are able to hold and hang onto objects in mid-air because that is one of the tasks that they had to be able to do. Originally, this breed worked as a dog to assist farmers, hunters, and butchers with wayward cattle or other large livestock animals. One of the things they would do is jump up and hold onto the neck or nose of the livestock or larger game and grip onto it for control so that the people can work without getting injured. Their ability to hang in the air from the mouth is a direct quality bred for their work. With weight pulling, all it is doing is showing endurance, willingness, strength, and eagerness to please. These activities are actually alternatives to dog fighting and other illegal purposes such as bull baiting and bear baiting. It is very wrong of people to try and connect everything done with a certain breed to dog fighting or illegal purposes when it is quite clear that is not the case.

      ***** You are absolutely right! Good to see someone that understands the history of this hardy working breed, and can tell the difference from abusive sports that are illegal and non abusive sports that that are perfectly legal and perfectly fine for this hardy working breed to take part in.

      what they said was that dogs trained for fighting are trained exactly the same way as dogs trained for these shows.

      @Gears_Starting Před 8 lety +2

      At 18:20 it says that these dog shows and their members have been accused of being a front for dog fighting syndicate. And the rest of it is trying to imply that something is going on during these shows. Also, dogs are not trained exactly the same for these shows as they are for fighting. Could their be hanging from objects and weight pulling involved? Yes, though not every fighter will train a dog that way. Also there is much more to it. For example, the sparring and rolls (practice matches) that dogs are given getting them ready for actual matches do not go on in these shows and would not be tolerated at all.

    absolutely disgusting that they compare weight pull competitions and hang time contests to dog fighting, its an excellent way of exercising your dogs and keeping them fit and people involved in these sports are strongly against dog fighting. Funny that the SPCA kicks off over pet obesity and pedigree show dogs that are unhealthy and not fit for function yet when an organisation that promotes dog fitness its animal cruelty

    • @Mister_Cool
      @Mister_Cool Před 8 lety +1

      +Nick Pollard Thumbs up to that! These people in this video and people that say things like weight pulling is cruel show just how clueless they are. This is a prime example of uneducated people trying to educate people on topics they really don't know anything about. They don't understand the APBT breed or athletic sports and activities like weight pulling and springpole. It's almost as if they don't like the breed and want to shame many of the things that make this hardy working breed so great by calling it cruelty and saying it is related to dogfighting. But people do these sorts of activities to give their APBTs an outlet to burn energy, get exercise, and to test and display the abilities this hardy working breed is known for. I agree with you completely. The people that hold these sports/activities and go to them are people that understand that fighting is illegal and are giving their dogs legal activities to do that still show what the dogs can do and what they are all about. But these morons want to say that this is about dogfighting and that it is cruel like they are trying to drive APBTs and their owners away from doing anything with their dogs so that their dogs end up fat, lazy, slow, and useless like many dogs today. But screw that! These dogs are APBTs. They aren't labs, poodles, or chihuahuas. APBTs LOVE to do things like weight pulling and springpole and many even do it without being trained or used for those sports. APBTs are hardy working dogs bred to be catch dogs to hold onto and fight against other animals..big or small..to hunt them, get them under control, or even kill (if the animals are pests like raccoons or foxes that do things like eat crops or kill chickens). These people are only showing the high energy, willingness to do and participate, power, endurance, and ability to hold on and not let go that these dogs are bred for without actually having them fight against another animals in a pitfighting match. There are even people out there that think that wild pig hunting is cruel! But we must take a stand and educate people that these are completely legal and legit activities that are great for APBTs to participate in, do, and be bred for. Especially wild pig hunting. APBTs were bred as all-around farm dogs working as cattle/hog dogs.

    • @Mister_Cool
      @Mister_Cool Před 8 lety

      Quez Mackey You have a point there guess. But I wish more people would teach people that these things do have rules and ways of doing things that do help from having the animals seriously injured or killed and that they are there to test, display their dogs, and know which ones they should breed. This for example.. www.yourepeat.com/watch/?v=10paBQzsP0k
      We don't see any animals dying here. These people have a clear system and rules in place to help limit injury and death while they are having their Pit Bull participate in a sport to display their abilities and breed the best dogs. I also wish more people would differentiate pro fighting from illegit fighting that do not follow the rules and are just out there for fun and don't know what they are doing. They should really be focusing on/shaming people like that. But to people like the ones talking in this video saying things like weight pulling and springpole is cruel just view it all as the same thing.

    American Pit Bulls have got to be one of the hardiest, most versatile, and capable breeds out there. They were bred as all-around farm dogs for cattle and to hunt. Like it says at the dog breed info website..and I quote.."the American Pit Bull was bred as an all-around farm dog, working the farms as a cattle/hog dog." I don't know how I feel about pitfighting though. I mean I can see why people use and breed American Pit Bulls to be able to and excel at these things. Bullfighting, bear baiting, ratting, badger baiting, and then dogfighting may seem off the mark on what the American Pit Bull was bred to do..but it's actually not. The American Pit Bull is a catch dog for livestock and wild pigs. Though it is called farm work and hunting..what they are basically doing is fighting against another animal. Those pitfighting matches are a more measured and more competitive way of insuring the standards of this hardy working breed get upheld and that people continue to breed for standard, the most capable, and the most game. But these pitfighting matches are illegal in some places, even in places where they are very popular like in America. I say to breed American Pit Bulls for purposes like hunting big game like wild pigs, deer, and bears and even smaller yet also very feisty game like raccoons, badgers, etc and breed for the best of those dogs if pitfighting is illegal a particular area. Hunting is a completely legit and legal activity that is what the American Pit Bull is all about (prey drive, power, athletic ability, the ability to hold onto another animal and not let go, etc.). It's not worth risking these great dogs to use them in an illegal activity that can get them taken, the owner arrested, and the dogs put down. People..if you breed American Pit Bulls or own American Pit Bulls and are looking for things to test them and breed the best for..then breed them for hunting game (big and/or small), weight pulling, and springpole. Great ways to use dogs for activities and make sure they are standard and breed quality. And those purposes are LEGAL. It's much, MUCH better than just breeding them based on looks and what you see on the end of a chain because you don't take part in illegal activities.

    These dogs were not bred to be fighting dogs, but rather hunting and farm / working dogs. The fact that they are hunters does make them naturally aggressive toward other animals, and it does make them fighters., However, they do not have to be used in dog fights, and were not originally bred for dog fights, or bull baiting, or any kind of organized dog fighting.
    These dogs should be used for hunting, working, and farm dogs. If one choses to own one of these dogs for a pet, or a family companion, they do in fact make great pets, and family dogs especially if properly socialized with people and other dogs., but they do need a lot of exercise.
    The reason people fight the dogs, is mainly for money.,
    These people should find other ways to make money., how about organizing sporting games for the dogs, like weight pulling, high jumps, etc., Or maybe a local dog show?, They can bet the same money on a dog show.
    So once again, the humans are at fault, and not the dogs.

      jaycore for gameness. Gameness does not have to be dog fighting. I understand what you're trying to say, but before they were selectively bred for dog fighting the breed has existed long before that, and yes bred for gameness. Meaning the best working dog that doesn't give up.

      andrej vujic i know, i agree it doesnt have to be. my point is that its not wise to ignore the history as they have many behavioral traits from being bred to fight. ( im not bashing, one of my favorite breeds) the APBT's predecessors were used for bull baiting etc...
