The First Day Jitters are real. Twenty-Three years into this career and I still can't sleep the night before the first day AND I am fast talking and walking in circles for the hour or so before kids and families show up the first day. You are in good company.

you should have a table captain. in each of four desks, you should have someone whose in charge of the caddy, like putting the markers back in the box or making sure it’s stocked. if you decide to keep them at the front of the room, you could have that “captain” or “leader” grab it and return it every day. they can also collect the papers from the group and hand them in so you don’t have to keep constantly keep around collecting work. each week, the leader/caption changes.

I loved being a captian of any kind in elementary it made me feel special. I think that's a great idea actually. I remember i used to be the table captian and collected all the papers and i thought i was SO cool lol it was an easy job for a kid like me who had anxiety while also teaching me responsibility and getting me up and out of my chair bc i was GLUED to that seat in school.

I'm going to be a new 3rd grade teacher this fall, and I just want to scream THANK YOU for making this video. Honestly, it has been very helpful for me to see how a first day is structured by another teacher, some fun activities that you can do, and how to go about introducing those procedures kids desperately need. I’m a senior and I decided I want to be a teacher, so I started watching videos about teaching and stuff like that. You’re videos make me want to become a teacher. I love kids and I can’t wait till I can help them with their education!

Omg i remembered thay friend scavanger hunt game and i hated it as a kid lolol i had a ton of social anxiety and no friends so i would be like standing in one spot in the room having a internal panic attack hoping others would come up to me so i wouldn't have to walk up to anyone 😂😂 i know its supposed to get you up and around the room to get to know everyone, but let me tell you it caused me stress every year. Even in college i hate that the profs make you stand up and like say your name, your major and 1 interesting thing about yourself im like please no. 😂😂 im glad your first day went well! Cant wait for more vlogs!

Just found out I’ll be teaching 3rd this year. I taught high school science (virtually) during lockdown… switching grades AND teaching for the first time in person is scary. This was nice to see!

Watching your videos put some great ideas in my head. This will be my 1st year teaching 3rd grade and I feel absolutely terrified but excited for this journey. As you said I feel like I have no idea what I'm going to do, or I might be awful!!!!! Everything I know will come together. Wish me luck.🤞 Instead of me going to school to be a teacher I'm going back to school and taking classes while teaching to do my teaching licensure, so I feel like I'm going in this with no teaching education but learning as I go, Which is why I feel less confident. With that being said I have had experience being an educational assistant and long term sub but never had the confidence of me being the head teacher. All my coworkers and boss saw potential and are 100% supportive, I know I can do this.

So glad I found your channel! I’m a retired elementary school teacher. I don’t miss the meetings,etc. However, I do miss the children. I spent nine years in third grade and enjoyed every minute! I love your enthusiasm and, for the record, after 20 years, I always became a bit nervous on the first day of school! Best wishes for a great year!

I loved watching you set up your room! Re: your feelings of, "I don't know how to teach anymore"--I am in a very different field and I feel the same way every first day. I just remind myself to act like I know what I'm doing and no one will be any the wiser, hahaha

I love Teachers Pay Teachers -- I've been homeschooling my children for 5 years and we're getting ready to start the 6th year. :) I used TPT so much when I first got started and still love to look through the site. When I was growing up, I always wanted to become a teacher and then I thought I changed my mind when I had children of my own. However, after watching you vlogs -- it makes me want to be a teacher all over again. I realize I'm teaching my children but it's not the same as having a classroom full of children! :)

Sabrina Quintana omg good luck! My college tip would be read a head lol my biggest struggle is never making the time to read and it makes the lessons so much harder to understand. Also use rate my professor website before signing up for classes! Its a magical tool.

Omg I totally relate to forgetting how to teach. School is on Monday and I feel prepared but not READY if that makes sense 😂 I also totally prefer the rolling out procedures as the day goes on instead of lecturing it to them. Experiential learning is good stuff.

I have a double-lesson release on Thursday after lunch, so I don't dismiss my kids that day. They have Art so they art teacher (who also teaches my class on Wednesday's) dismisses. You know what? Double release is the best version of awesome! I do all my planning for the week and begin my copying and printing. On Friday morning I have a single release and I try to get my printing finished up. And then that's it - no release on Monday or Tuesday so I teach aaaaalllll day, plus yard duties. I'm dead by Tuesday night!

Thank you for some of the activities you are using the first few days. I always struggle with that. I teach 3rd grade as well and LOVE it. Have you tried the 3rd day of 3rd-grade activities? It's similar to your scavenger hunt game, but it has a cool title, so I like to play that the 3rd day. I am running to dollar tree tomorrow for Jenga. lol. Good luck with the rest of your year. I start next week! And my room still needs work! ah!

I feel you with the first day jitters my first week working as a tutor for an after school program i was SCARED. I was really dead and zombie and didnt know how to communicate but now im like everyone's favorite
