If you are considering buying this game do yourself a favour and watch the entire video, don't just skip to the end as you will be getting misleading info. All my reviews are based on my own gaming experience with the game, I explain exactly what you will go through in the first 10+ hours of the game should you purchase it in it's current condition. Other reviews I have watched are a disgrace, am yet to even find one that mentions all the serious bugs that myself and many other people are experiencing. Some other reviews from really big reviewers are so terrible the reviewer spends 90% of his time running around in the P2W DLC jeep talking as if he has completed the game, disgraceful!
Something is off here guys, am not suggesting they were paid but I know from experience when you are given a AA or AAA press key sometimes you are told that you are not allowed to mention or show certain things, I am exposing this in a video very soon with actual written proof. This game is buggy, imbalanced and has early P2W yet not a single reviewer mentions any of it. Something is wrong, very wrong.

I am LOVING this game, and I didn't buy the DLC either. After getting mud tires for my scout truck and getting a bigger truck I feel like a badass. I figured out the basics finally and it really is a rewarding experience, but maybe I'm a masochist lol

Also I finally figured out that when you highlight what you need (planks/blocks/etc) on the mission screen, it tells you specifically WHERE you HAVE to get those materials specifically, it can't just be from anywhere. That's why they won't want the ones you brought them. Contractors use specific lumber yards and warehouses and this is the same

Absolutely good on you for speaking out. So much of the gaming industry has turned into lazyness and greed from developers. Some of my favourite single player games have stagnated completely because of the focus on online P2W shite. Well done for exposing this, and yes, those reviewers were probably payed off. The industry is slowly becoming more corrupt.

In case anyone is watching this review long after it has been made - the game got much better by now. I bought it recently and haven't encountered any bugs in about 20 hours of gameplay. The DLC trucks are much better than what you start with, but you can do just fine with what the base game gives you, especially if you watch some tips videos first. Basically, start in Michigan, first scout as much as you can, find all the upgrades you can (starting scout vehicle is pretty good when upgraded), then do tasks that unlock new roads (not all will be "doable" with starting truck, avoid mud) and retrieve all abandonned trucks you can get to. Then sell all upgrades you aren't using and all highway or heavy trucks you have and buy an offroad truck. Then it becomes MUCH easier.

This game is for an entirely different breed of people, and I'm not just saying that to gatekeep, it genuinely is just not for some people. What you explain as being some catastrophic downfalls are the pinnacle of the experience for others: The grindy nature, the fact that a lot of customization is reserved for later, the "awful" trucks at the beginning of the game, it's all put in place to present a challenge. That's all it is at the end of the day: a challenge. So if you enjoy blazing through games in a couple hours, this isn't going to be your type of game. Patience is requisite.
As for the pay to win aspects... Get good. Anything is possible with the vehicles you start the game with. If you continue to get stuck (especially in mud that is completely avoidable,) it's probably because of something you decided to do. You don't need the "pay to win" vehicles to beat the game, considering the game is already incredibly easy.
The bugs on the other hand are things that need to be fixed, I will agree with that much.

@@djentrification1631 no.. just no the game is really hard even when you think youre doing good, for some reason your truck just is placed in such a weird position when doing climbing id be surprised if you havent rolled the truck more then 20 times by now, but enough of that.
I possibly had the easiest time with the game due to my friends which told me aboot this game, after the tutorial finished and you gog and find a raised suspension for your chevy starter scout truck, you go to alaska and yo usimply travel to pedro bay which i have to say is quite easy, i mean theres really nothing stopping you travelling to pedro bay, once there, you need to find the ank mk38 im telling you guys right now this truck will make your life so much easier if you know how to fuel it up at the right times (its got a really small fuel tank and it tips over as easily as it runs out of fuel) This truck is the only midsized truck that has Offroad tires when you find it stock just laying there waiting to be pillaged (lol) all of the other trucks that you find out in the wild if they have offroad tires they are absolutely massive, not useful in the beginning and are slower in many cases.
Now having said that yes i know ikind of cheated a little bit because you know i had friends that played the game a ton sheet of hours before i did and they stumbled upon the ank mk38 by the time they where like level 14 which at that point you kind of dont need the ank because literally every other truck is not only faster, but more stable (they dont tip as easy some are just so sturdy!!) and they dont run out of fuel as fast, and some of those trucks have their own specialized set of offroading tires like the tayga which has huge mudtires and i think it is easily one of the best trucks in the game. If youre struggling to get to pedro bay on the chevy, there is a guy in this comment section that said he managed to get the hummer H2 with a stock chevy ck1500 (oh my i dont think i could have done it) honestly once you have the hummer even if it is stock it is way better then the chevy you can just blitz through mountain river onto pedro bay and just get the truck. The truck is the ultimate NOOB mobile for hauling cargo in blackriver michigan it just eats through the dirt road like its nothing and ive even done scouting with it, as a matter of fact once you get the ank, you will want to use it for everything even scouting, but before that i actually recommend as soon as you find this truck, is to keep going through pedro bay and find the westline V12 engine which i beleive is found on white valley (the last map in alaska) and i figured since i was already al lthe way out here in alaska i might as well find the engine (and i believe also the raised suspension for it) and let me tell you this is easily one of the fastest truck a rank 3 player can get their hands on really really early in the game you have no idea how much this truck helped in those times when i was literally just going 3 mph in the dirt on a fleetstar with highway tires on, good lord 150% better and a time saver, and even when i rolled it i dint get mad because i know it would have been worse with the fleetstar or any other truck i had with highway tires

Mack going to be honest here, not like you give a toss anyway, but you did a weak job at this imho.
I managed to uncover everything with the First car you get, the so called "pay to win" car is the wobbly one and you will roll more than you will discover with it.
Plus you are able to get the Hummer H2 in the first Alaska map, which is far better than the paid for vehicle.
Regarding the cargo going under the trailer, you forgot to "pack the cargo", its in advanced options of your vehicle, you basically latch the cargo to the trailer and it will never go under or fall off, unless tipped.
With the quest bug, you have to have it active, like started it with the mission area (mission square), it is not enough to track them from the map after unlocking via watchtower, you actually still have to go there and pick up the task, don't forget cargo must be packed before you can give to the vendor.
I think you didn't do a proper "in depth" look at this, as you started with it being pay to win, which I disagree, that vehicle might be powerful, but it is also very wonky and finicky to get to places, I like the first chevy a lot more...

Steven, if Mack could not figure out something, neither would the average gamer.
That is the point you missed from the video and practically makes your points invalid.
It does not matter if the car you pay for is better or worse for you, what matters is that the first car you are given sucked for mack= lack of game balance/good game introduction.
If Mack forgot to pack the cargo, the game failed to point it out= lack of feedback/polish.
You might be good at the game or might pay more attention to detail than the average gamer, but Mack is not doing the video for you.
In my opinion the game should not even allow you to go anywhere with the cargo if it is not packed to avoid annoying the player.

@@jeffvella9765 Again, the first car is perfectly fine, many YTers proven it, not the reviewers but the let's play videos. I am not going to make a video just to prove a point. The Chevy is a beast and if Mack didn't like it, maybe a fact of an in his view " p2w" car (I repeat there is nothing to win in, in this game, there is no rush, and nobody competes against you, this is not a PVP competetive FPS) cluttered his vision and determined, "that car is better so this one automatically sucks and I am not going to try make it work". Which he could have approached in a different way, explaining the average gamer, that this car might need upgrades before you go try to pull out something (mission clearly points out you need a proper off road vehicle btw and not a heavy truck or scout) from a swamp or deep mud. Average gamers aren't stupid, and you not supposed to throw them in a box like that. Average gamers can look up videos of let's plays, or 10 tips before you start playing. He could have been more educational than just trash a game that doesn't really deserve it, as it is a unique platform for mostly weird enthusiasts that actually care about a good physics, a correct implementation of ice in a driving game for the first time (the shit is slippery as hell), etc. He missed out a whole lot of good things about this game as he was ignorant to understand you are not supposed to use RWD vehicles to try pull shit into mud or a weight distribution of the load affects your center of gravity etc. This game is not meant for the dumb and it's audience is very specific, remember the original Spintires? That game had not even had a proper tutorial, this is the car, this is how you drive and this is what you do, discover the other stuff on your own by trial and error. Isn't that what Mack cries about in most of his videos, no hand holding? Well you get that fkin experience and the damn thing can be harsh, and yes there are bugs ( being fixed and worked on), but you can allow yourself to learn and adapt.
If you are not the patient type or have zero tolerance to learn and adapt this game is not for you. For the rest of us, it is maybe even a miracle this game is doing so well and exists, it is a weird niche that only true enthusiasts for sims can appreciate enough. That said, I mostly love Mack's vids and his reviews, but this one is a hard "nono" for me. He spent way too much time "bitchin and bashing" than actually playing the damn thing (assumption based on twitch vid length and the way he lost it), I bet he wasn't honest about playing the games for 10+ hours (pinned in his first comment), I strongly feel he spent about 5 hours at best in this game before he made this "review" (assumed from twitch video length and that he did not even show other regions/maps), and that says something about being honest, which is Mack's slogan.

For those starting out. When you first reach the garage in river valley that truck outside is AWD and can be recovered and used. I've been playing since release and no bugs yet. You can also sell any trailer you find for extra cash as well as if you upgrade a part on your vehicle sell the old part to recoup. The starting pickup will get you around decently just use the winch and pick your routes. Why go through some deep shit that will get you stuck if you can hug an edge and get through. Shocking review tbh. It just looked like you didn't know how to play the game. I mean when I saw you drive the gmc highway truck into the mud and scouting trials in the Fleetstar, it just proved the point. If you tried rescuing the truck with your modified Chevy scout, which you get as a first vehicle, you would have pulled that thing out in a jiffy; it's all about vehicle selection and setups. There is a simple formula to this game; Scout, clear paths, complete jobs, find vehicles and upgrades in the field and gather money and xp to build a garage that can tackle the tougher jobs later in the game.

@Cyramex we are talking about a £3 DLC during lockdown, when you don't spend money on pubs and parties. Not like it is going to break a bank. It is there if someone wants it to "scout" and do some side missions in advance. Not like that one car can progress you to finish the game or level you up to God level, discovering only gives so much XP, the real money and XP comes from big tasks, like the Contracts that need proper thinking and haulers not a "wobbly" scout car that rolls over on every incline as it is top heavy as hell. Besides, there is no "win" element in this game, so how can it be "pay 2 win", makes zero sense. Forza Horizon 4 is pay to win as it sells cars as DLC's, or iRacing or Grid or whatever racing game in this decade...all of them are pay to win then according to Mack's logic, all therefore deserve 5/10.

    •  Před 4 lety +10

This game has "old school" progression system where you start with crap vehicles then you grind easy jobs for cash, slowly upgrade, get better vehicles and so on... Its kinda like old NFS games, not like Forza lol. Also there is no pay to win, theres nothing to "win" in a single player sandbox game with no pvp or pve lol. Game is not easy, it requires planing, managing and basic knowledge about what awd and diff lock is. Mack just played himself with this one lol. Game is getting good press and most people loved it. @Cyramex Agree, but Mudrunner's game engine had limitations and they would have to rebuild the whole game. This game uses a vastly improved game engine compared to mzudrunner.
It is entirely up to you anyway, your money, your time. But I am happy with Snowrunner and I have all the games in the series.
For me it is a massive improvement and I can appreciate the details they went to put in this game.
Sabre Interactive is knows for delivering quality products, so I believe they will patch everything in time.
Wreckfest is great, been a massive supporter of the team and happily bought all DLC's to support BUGBEAR.
BeamNG is a different story, the game is a sandbox, it is a by product of a physics engine.
It is not a real game as there are no real objectives in it, it's primary focus is "rigid body simulation" and as such I wouldn't class it as a game. Even if they had DLC's nobody would probably buy it, as there is no point. The team behind it is much smaller, and as far I know, it isn't as commercially successful as the Spintires series. It is a fine product, but after a hour or so spent in it, you end up being bored, unless you fish out fun mods to play in it. It is more of an educational tool than a game really.
This is a game on the other hand, and I believe the Publisher Focus Entertainment saved Spintires from Oove who feed it up with Pavel. Nobody will know the true story behind the issues, only they will.
Anyhow, my 5 cents are on the table now. I think we discussed enough and I understand your reasoning and motivation. It is fine, take care 👌

Mack, you can upgrade the vehicles that you get. I mentioned this in your livestream. You can get an AWD upgrade for a truck right outside the garage early on, and put fat wheels on the supplied scout car too. You don't have to sell anything or buy a "special" car. I'd agree the game doesn't explain itself very well - as if it was worked on by one man with little oversight. As someone who loved Spintires and Mudrunner (I "1 starred" all levels), this game felt odd for a few hours while I figured out what has changed (quite a bit). I do think it's a great game if you enjoyed those earlier ones, but it is far too baffling at the beginning for new players. There is no hand-holding and you have to figure much out for yourself.
The game does say you'll lose your load if you recover to garage. Too bad you were only 20 meters away from it when you did that in your video. I used to have my (unsold) come and aid with fuel transfers as part of the plan for the delivery. It is a hard game - the "dark souls" of driving games, but it is deep and challenging and there is a shitload of content in this new game - the maps are huge and have vast new areas in them that unlock as you progress.

I'm usually one that sides with your point of view with games, but you're way off on this one. It's great.
Your choice of trucks (and likely tires) was awful and causing you problems. This is the point. You need to pay attention to the type of truck you're using and the tires you're using too. They make MASSIVE difference. I took all the starting trucks and sold them all right away and bought a Prystar (i think that's the name) and gave it off road tires. Can clear most things but deep water. I've had no issues.
Game is a ton of fun, but it requires planning. Same goes for fuel. You can't sit on AWD and Diff Lock all the time or you run out of gas. You gotta manage that. Dont' sit on AWD if you don't need it. You won't if you're using the right truck and tires.
I think you need to give this one another go while doing it correctly and better understanding the game.
Granted, the game does a poor job of teaching you some things like the Pack Cargo option which confused me too at the start (simple reddit search fixed this) and the fact you have to accept missions first or you can't turn them in.
This is an exellent game with a ton of content, if you're willing to spend a bit of time understanding you aren't going to zip around the map in a fleetstar with highway tires.

I have bought the game after seeing this review, it looked really fun. I have never played the older games and so i had 0 knowledge how this game worked.
Usually i agree with Mack but having played for about 12 hours and cleared the first area i have to disagree with some of the points made in this video.
First, the DLC (i do not own it) is not pay to win, in the first 5 hours or so i managed to unlock a few upgrades for the CK1500 and i could go anywhere with it, good tires unlock after a few levels and the suspension, motor and gearbox are scatered on the map.
Second, in the begining of the review Mack said the ONLY way of getting money is by doing tasks and contracts, i have made way more money by selling the 2 initial trucks, the Scout 800 and the trailers i found around.
After about 8 hours or so i had the CK1500 upgraded and the International Paystar and absolutely nothing in the first area could stop me from going whetever i wanted.
Third, the upgrades you find are for specific vehicles and not level dependent i think, when you find a new upgrade you press x in controller and it'll show you which vehicles are compatible with the upgrade. Also when i bought the International Paystar the small crane was already available for purchase but i do not know if you can lift the concrete slab.
Fourth, i have not encountered so far a single bug, maybe a few glitches but nothing game breaking, optimization is great for me, playing on ultra (minus distance and shadows) at 60fps/1440p in a 4yo machine.
In my opinion for 40€ this game has a lot of content, the maps are gourgeous the controls adequate, in the begining it's a bit confusing to understand how the tasks and contracts work but after playing the first area i am pretty sure i figured out everything already. My advice is to play, explore and learn the game by yourself, do net let the others tell you how you should play it or do this or that, you will eventualy get good at it and optimize your playstyle while playing it more.
I'll leave you a few tips i learned by myself that might be usefull:
    - While exploring and doing some contracts you'll pass or find tasks, even if you're not doing those tasks right away stop at the task, accept the task and follow the task and immediatly cancel it, this way later when you want to do the task you can activate it throught the map screen and you don't need to go to task giver physically.
    - Sell the trailers you find but make sure it's not a mission related trailer and sell the vehicles you don't use to buy a better truck, just like Mack did on the video.
    - When doing a mission that you need to deliver something to a different area make sure to go to that area first and check if you can get the materials needed closer than pick them on the other side of the other map and waste huge amounts of time.
    - Beware of the remove option in the functions menu of your vehicle, if you want to remove cargo from your trailer use the crane, if you click remove in that menu the cargo will disappear, i made that mistake in one mission and lost the cargo.

Even though I've always respected Mack's opinion and still do in this case I decided to give this game a chance, like I do with many other games after doing a bit of investigation. I decided to skip Alaska for now where the beginning tutorial takes you and remained in Michigan to further explore the map. I haven't bought any DLC's and have only played the base game. Remaining in Michigan was the right call because I ended up unlocking some nice upgrades but more importantly I discovered the International Scout which makes exploration much, much easier.
So far the few missions and tasks that I've done I haven't experienced any bugs and while it can be annoying at times if you upgrade your Scout with the repair and refuel mod and take it with you when you transport steel, bricks and planks you'll have a much easier time. There is a good game to be had here and if you stick to exploring the first map, everything will come into place. This game can be frustrating but the reward outweighs the frustration, at least for me it does.
In my opinion this is definitely worth a buy and I've been hooked playing it. I've been playing it for over 8 hours now and I'm not in a rush to get to the other maps, the exploration is very addictive, I really enjoy it. Having seen in the videos what the DLC Jeep is capable of it'll only ruin the game by making it much easier. Stick to the scout and upgrade your vehicles as you unlock upgrades and you'll have a relaxing good time.

his review was pretty bollocks to be honest, he's harping on about the DLC truck saying its pay to win but if that was the developers plan they wouldn't have unlocked mods from day 1, there are cars available in the mods section of the game ( yes theres even a mod section ) and they are fully kitted up and free to access without any trouble at all, hes talking like the game is deliberately forcing people into buying an easy way out when its doing the opposite by offering you piss easy access to the mods which are miles better than the DLC car. the developers have pretty clearly made a statement by allowing mods from day 1, that statement is if you want it easy well there you go, its up to you and costs nothing, if you want to support us and have access to all our upcoming content then buy the premium edition and here have a nice little starter vehicle, which has far from the best tyres in the game.
he also talks about how frustrating it is, the core of the gameplay loop is to get stuck and find a way out of the situation, your suppose to take your time and enjoy the physics, does a job require 2 concrete blocks well take fucking one and go back for the other, try a load of 2 after you upgrade your tyres and engine later on, the game is a great big puzzle and your not suppose to be making it to jobs easily, some of them not at all until you have progressed, if this loop frustrates you why bother even playing.
the bugs are a valid concern and no bug can be explained away so that's fair enough but saying its pay to win is just absolute rubbish, if you want to not get stuck in a game that's designed to make you get stuck you astonishingly have that option, your not tied down to pay any more money at all, if you was they wouldn't give you access to mods for free and would make your only choice that DLC car.

This game has to suit you, you have to be patient, be smart at driving etc. I haven’t really experienced any bugs yet except on coop, which I think they have fixed within a week by making a hotfix update. I was absolutely shocked about what was said in this review, but I also completely understand them. It’s a pain in the *ss to drive that route across the map again when your truck tips over, or even worse, a bug which was completely not your fault.
About the DLC, I bought it as part of the premium pack. Not knowing it would be such an over-powered vehicle, I still don’t regret buying it because it may be over-powered. But that doesn’t ruin the fun for me, again: this is a personal preference which can change with everyone.
Up to date, I have had no issues with EpicGames and thus I wouldn’t know what a lot of people are talking about. In my opinion, this game is awesome. A great way to spend time, especially now. Finally, remember this isn’t FH4 or whatsoever. This game is about patience and smartness, keep in mind where you draw the line of when a game is stressful/irritating or relaxing.

@Cyramex It is also a fail not to recognise the good game at core here. Just because Mack has an opinion (a very biased one), it doesn't mean it's a bad game. That is very shortsighted. At core it is still as those previous games with added unlocking, achieving, exploring for reasons and doing stuff to accomplish, instead just for the hell of it. I think they wanted some sort of acomplishment feel, after you finish the game. But, if you have atleast 1 friend who is willing to play it, the economic side is suddenly a breeze and unlocking things is much faster and even more fun. I only played COOP with a couple of other people, and I must say, despite few bugs (some can be fixed with ingame settings) this game is really good 👍 The devs are active, and it is highly unlikely the game will be left buggy, they already released 2 hotfix patches, latest one with 2.4GB. I think they care about this game. The "pay to win" car is actually one of the worst scout cars in the game, and something is off with it's physics so I would not even recommend getting that.

    • @steveracer1985
      @steveracer1985 Před 4 lety

@Cyramex It is totally up to you. I think they did a pretty good job with this one, there is ton of new stuff to do. I have heard the original dev of Spintires is working on this too, not sure if that rumour is true. Epic launcher is probably the lightest and least obtrusive store launchers out there. I don't understand why people hate it so much, Epic is actually a decent company with good track record. Might have been a cash grab, but they need the cash, so it is perfectly fine for that, as long they keep this game updated etc. There is an official discord where the Devs actually show up from time to time. I know there was a lot of drama in the past, but I do think they care, the 2 hotfixes proven it already and a bigger patch is expected next week. Also the DLC's guarantee that they add free stuff too, they already explained this in the Seasson Pass Roadmap video.

How do you win in a simulation game? Yes, a person can buy the Khan, but the game does not require it. The game even gives you all the upgrades for a decent start at the start. Yes, the game is buggy, to the extent that my game save was corrupted. This is a simulation game, so I don't care about losing progression. THE FIRST MAP has enough stuff to get you ranked up enough for mud tires, gives you the suspension and snowrunner gearbox upgrades. Here is a video of someone using the P2W Jeep to easily tow out a truck that you get to keep if you can rescue it. i had doubts about it myself, passing on Mudrunner when the original Spintires had not so good reviews, Watched several other reviews and videos etc, Must say though, One of the Best games ive played in a long time, been playing for nearly 2 weeks with 50+ hours into the game and have not looked back.. its Totally worth playing and spending hours lost in the open world maps at a DIY progression of countless missions and tasks, not including multiplayer. PC Only here, i dont do consoles.. Plays perfectly w No setting changes other than Graphics when using an X-Box ( USB for Windows ) controller.
You have to learn to play the game and Upgrade the trucks with proper tires accordingly to enjoy this properly, You just CANNOT go all the way through mud bogs on regular highway tires and certainly progress to the other maps without upgrading through the garage.

Because this game is on sale on Steam now I thought I’d offer some thoughts on this review. If you’re like me, you love Mack’s reviews so much that this is the first place you go when deciding to buy a new game.
*1.* there are no excuses for bugs. At this point though, it seems as if those bugs have been resolved
*2.* if you enjoyed MudRunner, you’ll enjoy SnowRunner
*3.* if Mack’s source of frustration, in addition to the bugs, is the UI then I get it… the UI does take some getting used to. On top of that there are a lot of things the tutorial doesn’t make clear
*4.* if the source of Mack’s frustration is the gameplay itself then… Mack was *never* going to like this game. What I think Mack misses is that this isn’t a title like Euro/‘Murican Truck Simulator where it’s only ever a relaxing experience with no obstacles to overcome. The *Runner games are, essentially, off-road vehicle themed puzzle game with an open world exploration element. The game gives you a set of tools and a set of challenges and sends you on your way. The challenge is in identifying what combination of tools you need to accomplish a specific goal, but this also means you have to identify tasks that you’re just not properly equipped to handle…. like trying to pull a dead truck out of a flooded field using a truck equipped with highway tires (which I believe Mack was doing in this video).
Of course the starting vehicles aren’t great, but if you spend 15 minutes exploring you find all that you need to get your starter truck (Chevy pickup) to any location on the first map when combined with mud tires from the garage. After that it’s just a matter of doing tasks and playing the game.
The “pay2win” vehicles you’re trashing were offered specifically for people such as yourself who are frustrated, not for us fans who enjoy the title because we enjoy the aspects of the gameplay that you feel are frustrating. I *love* that I’m being dumped in the wilderness with a crappy truck and being told to go figure it out, that you don’t enjoy that is totally fine though.
Mack, I love your work and you’re still the first person I go to for opinions when I’m thinking about dropping dollars on a game but… I don’t think you approached this one with the right expectations and the vitriol you sent back at fans of the game was not a good look for you. I still love you though because I get it, the internet can be a real asshole to content creators so your frustration is totally understandable.

The mud, snow and water mechanics are pretty awesome. But then you get to a straight tarred road, and the game says fuck you, you are still in the mud, and instead of drive normally in a straight line and allowing you some speed as it would in real life, you still slide around like a drunk child driving on ice.
And your vehicles keep disappearing despite having been purchased. Then you have t fork out money to buy them again.
This game can be calming, if it doesn't make you hate it as much as it does.

So I have watched this entire review and disagree with it massively, the game to me is very good and I enjoy it massively.
Below is my points from this review:
    - You don't need the DLC scout vehicle, the beginning scout cars do a great job already
    - Physics not being great on smaller vehicles? Have you tried driving on solid mud in a light weight vehicle with soft suspension? It will bounce around if not driven slowly
    - Not at all P2W! I unlocked all watch towers in Black River with the scout chevy, plus the scout cars can't do much other than scout so don't see how this makes the game P2W
    - That game breaking bug of yours, if you re-watch your own footage you almost tipped you trailer over which dislodged your cargo so it was not strapped down. Now I will say that the game shouldn't have done what happened to you but at the same time you could have avoided this if you just noticed your cargo had become dislodged and re-packed it.
    - Also the crane is already unlocked in the game at the start, it can be fitted with both the flat bed so you can have a 2x cargo space and a crane to lift the cargo
    - The game requires patience and strategy, you will be taking your time at 5mph and you will also be blasting a long on a tarmac road. You have to strategize each route and plan each job you do.
    - The game is frustrating but so is doing this in real life, the game is a simulator and if you didn't already expect this then that is on you and not the game.
    - The co-op side of things does need improving in terms of progression/upgrades and also there is some weird things with cargo I have found in co-op
    - Totally agree as well that winching in co-op seems very broken and not working correctly, this needs fixing massively
    - I have also very rarely had bugs since launch, the game has had patches to resolve things as well
    - I am also still using the starting international truck that is at the starting garage, had no need to upgrade to other vehicles
    - Each task and contract tells you exactly what you need to do, where to go and what to deliver so unless you are not paying attention to that I don't see how you would bring the wrong cargo for a task/contract
This game is not for everyone but I personally would say that the game is fantastic for me.

    • @HumzahHussain
      @HumzahHussain Před 4 lety

@Cyramex To be honest it is scummy but its also one of the least intrusive/necessary pieces of day 1 DLC for a game. A lot of games nowadays have day 1 DLC that make them pretty much the definition of P2W. The progression system is something I can understand people not liking but at the same time the game needs to have some form of a reward system that gives the players something to strive for as opposed to just driving around like Spintires. I feel the developers here really wanted to branch beyond what Spintires originally did, which was more or less a physics tech demo to be honest.

    • @HumzahHussain
      @HumzahHussain Před 4 lety +1

@Cyramex That is fair enough, however none of this makes the game P2W as per my original point and the point the reviewer is trying to make in this review. Plenty of other sims push new expansions/maps out as DLC so this is nothing new when it comes to this game. Either way none of this makes the game P2W which validates my original point.

This is my first spin tires game, I have been keeping my eye on it for a while now and this is where I decided to join the series. I don't regret anything. I will be honest that I did buy the season pass. I did my research into what they plan on coming out with. I knew buying this game that it was going to have a similar progression structure to TC GR Wildlands which is a game I absolutely love. you are right the starting trucks are shit. The fleetstar you unlock when you unlock the garage is amazing though you get it very early on whether or not you bought DLC. Time is not important in this game, to "win" you are not competing for anything. there is nothing to win. so I do not agree with you saying it is P2W. it just makes you progress easier. I was having a look at the bug that you encountered. at 6:19 you can see the cargo slipped. The cargo was never repacked thus causing the glitch. (you repack cargo at the bottom of the functions menu assuming the cargo is in the back of your truck or trailer.) At 6:40 you drove right through the mud when the hints in game tell you that going off the beaten path is the key to success. I would gladly talk to you and go through the video with you. I've been here for too long typing I can't be bothered to respond to the whole video if no one is going to read it.

I couldnt disagree more. I personally haven't experienced any bugs or if they are there, they haven't hit me yet and i'm several hours in and lvl 6. Maybe if I had run into the bugs you described I would feel tilted enough to change my outlook on the game. I don't own the dlc truck nor would I use it if I had it(Also its not a competitive game so if Joe Blow has a damn spaceship who cares?). The crummy starter trucks are tools given to the player to teach them the hard way about how mud / snow / gravity etc factors into driving. After selling a few easily accessible trucks I was more than able to afford the International Paystar 5070, a very capable offroad truck. Once I had a proper truck I felt the map open up even tho the map itself hadn't changed and I was thankful for the hardknock style of learning the ropes. I'm a brand new player to this type of game. I never played Mudrunner and I haven't even touched co-op yet but I'm still havin a blast. This game is a breath of fresh air when every other game is a shoot em up or sword and shield fantasy game. $40 might be a bit steep for some but I'd say its a unique and immersive enough experience to warrant the price.

    PROS:
Mud, water and snow physics are incredible
    Challenging, yet fun gameplay
Bugs aside, well optimised (I get 60 frames on my ageing rig - i5 4460, GTX 970, 16gb RAM)
Enough varied content to keep you drawn in for many hours

    CONS:
No wheel support (absurd for a driving sim) - that said I managed to get my Logitech Momo to work, passably
    No force feedback
Editing controls is a nightmare - all my controls reset to default each time the game is launched
Physics of the initial scout vehicle feels off. The car seems to float around and on tarred roads doesn't behave as you would expect

@@steveracer1985 I got that impression from this review too. The one glitch he mentions is because his cargo became detached @ 6:19 which also explains why the cargo was turned down before. It's more a game mechanic than anything, literally a push of a button could have saved hours of wasted time.

Oh what it is out already? And here I was waiting and searching the Steam store every day for it.
It's always a bad sing when the game is on Epic and the players go to the MudRunner discussions on Steam because they have problems with SnowRunner.

I got all towers in all maps with nothing but the Chevy pickup with only a lift kit and all terrain tires. And all Michigan missions with minimally upgraded starter vehicles and the cheap Paystar. People constantly underestimate the starting trucks abilities. They only struggled with the mega cargo deliveries.

I've had that quest bug too. Now, the DLC scout vehicle is good, but it is worse to control than the initial scout. It's faster and it goes through mud like no other, but it rolls much more frequently, so I prefer the other one. It's slower, but with a few upgrades it goes through mud just as easily and doesn't roll as often.

Haven't played the previous games but this series was something on my radar cause i liked the truck simulator games and was looking for something different.
Didn't had a lot of trouble progressing even without the overpowered DLC. The GMC truck isn't very good but it gets you through the tutorial. The Fleetstar you can get when you reach your garage is far better and can get through most of the terrain in Black River. The best thing in the game is you don't loose money, sell and buy price are the same, so sell every trailer and vehicle you find and buy a better and stronger truck like the Paystar.
There are some cargo bugs and most of them happen because the cargo wasn't secure, when you almost tipped over the trailer, the cargo straps snapped and you needed to repack the cargo. This can be done from the function menu.

Okay, wow.. so I have played for some time now, and ALL I see is your own fault, you drive with a empty truck with a full loaded trailer, that is doomed from the start, the only reason it bugs out is because you did NOT fasten the load! So that is the only reason it bugged, again your own fault, I have used the start truck fine at the begging, I just think you don´t understand a game like this!

I was looking for this comment so i didn't have to write it myself ^^
Might I add to that, the bug you occured of the quest not wanting your cargo anymore, since you didn't strap the concrete down after not being gratefull for the trailer not completely flipping, it could have been cargo not being stapped down on your vehicle.
If cargo isn't stapped down you can't deliver it, it doesnt register so that too was probably your own fault.
I played so far without DLC content and a few crashes but nothing gamebreaking.

P2W if you want it to be over quicker, otherwise not really IMO.
I bought the Season Pass and only figured out that the DLC cars were in my deployable fleet after several hours of fun and many missions/watchposts later on the first map. I still haven't really used them, as I enjoy the work and difficulty.
If you want the game to be easier it's definitely P2W, if you want the misery then don't use them and you're getting the actual experience. Do I hate myself for saying "Just don't use the better, free gear if you want the best experience?" Yes, somewhat.
Good review overall, but definitely not your kind of game lol. Cheers.

This game isn't about winning at all costs, it's about fun. If you need easy mode, download free mods! IT IS OPTIONAL for people that have difficulties or want a different experience. You have difficulties, others do as well. It's a hard game.
The game is 100% playable. Unlock different trucks in different maps. Upgrade them. Learn about how mud, traction and trucks work. An empty chassis tractor is going to be terrible in mud, you won't get anywhere. You need weight over the wheels. Install a flatdeck or box, get locking diffs and awd, do what you need to do.

Mack, as much as I usually like your views and reviews...this one was utter garbage.
In this case 'get good' is actually what you should be listening to. You can't take a highway truck, drive into the mud and expect to get through.
As much as I want to hate the devs (since they went for epic money) and shit on their game, I just don't see a reason as to why to do so.
You're playing this game as if you're used to fast paced fps games and now want to switch to a strategy game with the same spirit. It's just not gonna work out.
You can shit on the game as much as you want, it doesn't change that you're just a bad player in this instance.

The fleetstar you get from the start has the AWD and the Disc lock from the start. Just the 9k you get from the start put it on tires and you are a happy chappy, I did the whole of michigan USA with the fleetstar (winch the fleetstar into the garage immediate fix, any vehicle can do that). Some patience is required with this game but if you are familiar with the old spintires series this is way more rewarding and fast paced.
Few ground texture bugs (water mostly) not game breaking, low frames when riding fast, 1 crash and a 7,5GB update, what all the stuff is and where you need to get it takes some getting used to but is oké (could be easier), tasks mostly the onces where you need to get a trailer out of the mug, other jobs worked fine for me.
And yes its a shame the best scout truck is behind a paywall but the other trucks can do anything too. €3 or something is pretty steep for something they could have clearly just added to their game.
The thing that I don't like the most is the progression finding the upgrades and buying them. In previous spintires you get everything and you could do anything the way you liked it. The garage is a bit confusing too but not to complicated.
Thats my experience so far about 10 hours, I don't think this is a bad game, not perfect neither.
Is it worth €50,- is just the question of how locked down are you right now?

    • @dadikkedude
      @dadikkedude Před 4 lety +1
