  • Day 4 of my new 55 gallon set up. Water tests are perfect, just looks cloudy. Oscar and Pleco are doing Great. Added some DIY hideaways and will add more fish this weekend.

Had a bacterial bloom in both of my 5 gal Betta + Tetra tanks. Had the bloom longer than it should've been since I added beneficial bacteria (FritzZyme7) every day to speed up the cycling process. Turns out, the filters included with my Aqeon Smartclean MiniBow were insufficiently filtering since I also had a small bag of Seachem Purigen (couldn't stand the sight of cloudy water!) even though water parameters were perfect. So, removed the Purigen bags, filter speeds up, and it cleared within a day! Now I've added a tiny Betta sponge filter in each of the 5 gals and the water is so crystal clear, the fish look like they're floating! All parameters are still excellent. Now I'm working on my new 55 gal and 29 gal and it appears they're going through a bacterial bloom (can't avoid it!), but now I've learned from my mistakes and both larger aquariums have excellent filters!

Drain the water 3 to 4 times is you have this problem but drain it to the point where you don't have to take out the fish.

Hi. How is the bacterial bloom going? Did it go away? Did you have to do any additional treatments? I’m kind of going through the same thing with my new aquarium set up. Would love to know an update on how things are going. Be blessed

It clears out by it self once the bacteria eats up all the organic matter I would feed less during this period also keep an eye out for your water with a test kit . ammonia and nitrites tend to rise
